      Enlighten us. How exactly is this a reasonated argument? He says in the video that the partitioning of the land has been decided by the UN so why exactly is Israel still in the West Bank? Also the Palestinian Authority is a secular movement (None of the Islamist BS he mentioned in the video is applicable there), while Israel is an ethnocracy so I'd argue that it is pretty far from being a "western outpost".

Also, I think a lot of Palestinians would be happy for Hamas to go away. A lot of people here (who see Maher's videos) do Not confuse supporting civilian Palestinians with supporting Hamas. See below:
      It is a UNIQUE type of situation when killing-machines were built to put millions of a certain ethnicity/religion of people into the killing machines to genocide them. The Jewish *people* were persecuted around the world for thousands of years until finally they lost 6 *million* persons of theirs who were *murdered* on purpose by Hitler & Nazis. The fact Jews decided they needed a homeland to survive of *course* means that Israel is mostly for Jewish people, *However,* Israel allows Arabs who live in Israel to vote. In fact, there are a few Arabs in the actual Israeli government, in the Knesset. So many "Muslim" nations *force* people in those countries to be Muslim or pretend to be Muslim. Israel does not outlaw people living in Israel from having their own religion. Israel DOES have much more western values than Muslim theocracies.

    I'm not generally a big fan of Bill Maher, but here he's spot on. I'm tired of pretending there's nothing good about my culture, nothing to be proud of. I'm glad to be a descendant of people who built up Europe from the ashes of the Roman Empire, who took great ideas from the Greeks and Christians and synthesized them into modern Western philosophy, people who built Gothic cathedrals and universities, and who spread their ideas all over the world and ultimately, as the crowning achievement, put the man on the moon. There's nothing wrong with recognizing the beauty and splendour of these great thousand years of Western civilization. The question is, what do we do with everything our ancestors built and left us? How do we proceed into the future?

      Yeah I love my country and I'm happy when I hear people also originating from a different perspective love it as well. Unfortunately, we always have the exceptions to the rule. I recently had seen a video of some Americans that moved to Russia and seemed to have a greater appreciation for that manner of more traditional and conservative living. Imo that form of living is forced upon most Russians whom could never truly elect anything other than that, but they maintain the argument that in prosperous cities of Russian capital such as St. Petersburg or Moscow that it works to enrich Russians, and they simply don't have to change to accommodate the left, or any immigrants not wanted, et cetera. For some reason America's imperialism is always used against us to unilaterally disarm and weaken us, even though nations like Russia have taken just as much part in it as America has in Siberia and even in Alaska at some point, and arguably succeeded more in it. Russia is literally the wealthiest empire still around today. It may not be the smartest empire, but potentially the wealthiest it surely is. Never mind that that wealth is hoarded by the Russian capitals of Russian culture which keeps all other districts and republics poorer, to the point men in those regions have to resort to joining the military to go die in Ukraine, just so they could potentially make a better living back in their homes.

      He's pretty spot on. The part where he isn't spot on is, that Israel is the aggressor. Palestinians are different than Hamas... Hamas is just a group that came out of free and fair elections.
      This is the right wing muslim world, taking over the population in Palestine. This is also the right wing Israeli groups occupying Palestinian land. Bill never elaborates but after the United Nations division of land, he doesn't even mention the 1960s war... which the land was decided. Israel has been ignoring those divisions and occupying new territories and kicking out more Palestinians.
      So even though we should stand with Israel, we should also stand with Palestine. Hammas is not Palestine. They are a right wing group that has taken over the Gaza Strip. The first time they gave Palestine the right to vote... they voted in Hammas... lol - but the election was very close. (like 3% difference.
      Now Palestinians have no choice other than to stand with Hammas.

      That’s an unfair statement. Yes, the liberal arts departments have an outsized voice. I’m at a point in my career where I do a lot of training and mentoring of young college graduates. I work in a stem field and most of these kids who are coming in have STEM degrees and are nothing like the snowflakes from prestigious private schools with art history degrees who overpopulate middle management.
      Yet when adversity occurs or business declines the woke snowflakes are the first ones to be let go and for the obvious reasons. They lack the hard skills to be productive and solve hard problems.
      Now that’s not to say soft skills are not important. They are, but some folks want to make a false dichotomy that people with hard skills can’t learn soft skills.
      In the long run the hard skills always win out because the folks with hard skills only have to stop working and business comes to a screeching halt.
      Most of these kids coming out of college already know this. It’s really just a load minority who believe in this “woke” nonsense.

      While I understand your point, it has to do with how the West teaches its own authors. Research has long found notable contributions in all of the mentioned domains in other parts of the world (eg most astronomy, algebra and geometry came from the Middle East). It's just that these contributions were then either also independantly found in the West, and the West credited itself with its discovery, or was passed on to the West.
      Not to say the West didn't invent anything, of course they did. But research on the matter suggests a reality way more contrasted and complicated than it would appear to the layman. Most societies have come up with different ideas, and influenced each other, and so on. You should look up the state of the scientific litterature on the matter, it's quite interesting.

    I still remember my history first year at uni (not US thankfully for my bank balance) and one of my modules was the Rise of Islam and it was 10 weeks of studying a tidal wave of blood from Arabia to Spain. We also had a module on the rising and falling of Africa's empires, most of which were self-inflicted falls. We further had modules on pre-colonial China and India and the way they were constantly in civil wars, fracturing and reforming, growing tyrants and religious conflicts. At the same time we also looked at western civ and the same patterns existed. Pretending most of history isn't fucked up beyond belief is so childish whether left or right. Pretending colonialism is the only evil in the world and that westernisation is a terrible thing is stupid; so is pretending western civilisation has always been a bastion of goodness and rights even post-enlightenment (if we consider the West to be the legacy of the Greco-Roman tradition it has produced as many dictators and tyrants as it has stable democracies) and even so-called bastions of democracy like the US and my own UK haven't the best history for good democratic practices at home or abroad. It's only in recognising how shitty history actually is that we can do better, but that means also recognising progress where it happens which a lot of colleges, especially in the US, don't seem to support doing. It is also important to note that universities are not monoliths of thought - even people within the same school's of thought spend most of their time sniping at and undermining each other and that filters through to a very dumbed down undergraduate curriculum because you can't have your lecturers contradicting each other every other week. I don't know what the university assessment system is in the US at the moment, but in the UK (especially in the humanities) testing is usually very open ended for this reason - if you actually did all the reading and your own research you'll probably come away with a very different answer to even someone else who did that same reading because there is freedom of interpretation in the UK system.

      The politics of that time divided my generation…to say the least!
      I’m looking forward to seeing how badly Gen Z will screw up the world, in the future, 😂
      Human beings are imperfect…always have been, always will be.
      The best thing to have happened in my life, has simply been to grow older…it’s definitely given me greater wisdom, and perspective.
      I’m against war in general these days, but at the same time, I recognize the truth behind most of what Bill Maher has said about radical Islam over the years…
      You can’t CHANGE other people, though….I think that’s what Bill is losing sight of.
      If I was a woman born in Afghanistan, I’d probably have to commit suicide in order to escape that sort of misogynistic hell.
      If it’s hard to change one person’s mind on something, just imagine how much more difficult it is to change an entire region of the world!
      Islam is always going to be around, methinks…the only questions that remain, are: how are we going to peacefully coexist with them? And them, with us?
      Here’s to Western civilization, so human beings can escape from the Muslim world, and immigrate over to here, if they have the opportunity to do so.
      I don’t pray, but here’s to hoping for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Hamas war that’s currently happening…Shalom/Salaam

Most people are just trying to survive and are trying to be good humans whatever the narrative they have been spoon fed. Just try to imagine if the rest of the world waged war on the US for some of the shady practices cCongress, Senate, corporations, and media promote for personal interest and power. Probably 70% of our country would have no idea whats going on and why were being attacked. Many innocent people just trying to make a living and have a decent life would die that did not sign up for any politics. Our crime was being born here! Artists, great thinkers, craftsmen, farmers, inventors, and so on would be eliminated! I understand war has rules.. This is so complex and hard to make fun of. We can't just get rid of or bomb so called barbaric cultures because there are always valued dissidents in every culture. The bigger narrative from every government should be peace and prosperity. Bill mentions the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. What's also important to know about it is that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, officially representing all fifty-seven Muslim nations, rejected the UDHR. In its place they put forward the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam, which makes clear, in its last two articles, that only those rights Muslims decide to grant via Sharia exist.

British and French archaeologists and linguists cracked the code and the entire history of ancient Egypt was now available to the people of Egypt. Same thing with India. The Brahmi script was rediscovered by the British and Ashoka, who had been lost to the ages, is now an Indian hero and source of great pride.

      Yeah, that's true. Many westerners contributed to unearthing remarkable historical monuments/story and so on. But, at the same time, we should also remember that India was a beacon of culture, art, architecture, science and so on, when much of the Europe were in dark ages and roaming about naked and eating raw flesh; Similarly, Egypt, ancient Chinese and so on had terrific cultural history;
      The power and influence of Western countries has grown rapidly in the last four to five centuries. Till the end of 17th century, I think the combined GDP of India and China accounted for roughly about 50% of the world GDP. There was a reason why every major Western empire wanted to invade India, it's because of its enormous wealth;
      So, greatness was there in different cultures at different times. Greatness is not restricted to a specific culture or people. Hope, you are getting my point.

Part of ISIS's intentions was to destroy any remnants of those past civilizations because they had nothing to do with Islamic culture and were impure. Thank God those wretched European colonialists kept many of those ancient artifacts safe in museums. The great irony is that nobody ever mention islamic colonialism, something that is ongoing if we accept to their extreme leaders intentions. Malcolm X's conversion to Islam was a way for him to return to his African roots. How in the world did a religion that had originated in Arabia found its way to west Africa? How is it possible that the country with the most muslims in the world is Indonesia, a southeast asian island? Well, violent conquest.
