- IBF and The Ring cruiserweight world champion Jai Opetaia earned his title the hard way in a boxing match that redefined toughness. Battling a badly broken jaw and the might of Latvia’s Mairis Briedis, Australia’s youngest ever Olympic boxer survived an onslaught to claim the titles in an upset in 2022.
Now, before he faces Jordan Thompson in his first title defence, Opetaia and his team takes Sporting News through what that historic night felt like through their eyes.

Awesome documentary. Jai is slept on by the boxing community, I'm from England and have followed him in the last 3 years. Everytime I mention him to other people they haven't heard of him. He's no doubt in my top 5 fav boxers to watch alongside Inoue, Bam Rodriguez, D. Benavidez and Tank Davies. I believe in 2024 the world will have eyes on him. He deserves more attention as he is an incredible athlete/boxer/human

How he kept fighting with that broken jaw beats me. Wasn't just a normal broken jaw. It was hanging off the top part of his face, as the X-rays showed.

He undoubtedly has that Samoan Warrior spirit we’ve seen most, if not all of them sport and carry extremely well.
The sheer strength, will power, bravery, determination and confidence.
I only knew of him last year and didn’t think much of it but after watching this, holy moly, this dude is insane and definitely one to watch. A very hardworking, resilient and impressive fighter.
I love his mindset, and his confidence in his skills and abilities as well as his ability to focus on what he needs to get done and nothing/nobody can stop him from getting it.
Awesome role model for our young.

Will be fantastic to see jai move up in weight at some point to heavyweight!!, folks have been telling me that Jai’s just a new Joseph Parker! but that’s just not true! Jai has a incredible fighting ability with a killer instinct that makes him the fighter he is!, you see at times with big Joe in fights that he lets up off the gas! and give his opponent an opportunity to take a break to recover and come back stronger! Jai doesn’t give his opponent that chance he comes in hard and steps on that gas to get the job done! And in return what we get is to watch a incredible performance for a well balanced boxer puncher!! Just incredible! 👍🏽🇺🇸🇼🇸

That fight was something else Breidis vs Opetaia 1. The 2 is so much more exciting to me than even the Fury v Usyk. Both guys were so tough. So much respect for those guys.
