      I agree! When she first debuted the husky voice in 1983 I wasn't wasn't really feeling it. But looking back this was amazing. I was so use to her crystal clear voice in the 60's and 70's. Sh can sing anything!

      Whitneyfan 90 she was able to adapt and vocally evolve with her voice which, for me is why she’s the greatest vocalist of all time. She could sing all the way til she passed.

    Wow, the unmatched talent on this stage!! The top 3 artists I had promised myself, back in the day, I would see before they passed away was, A.F., J.B., and M.J. I had the privileges of seeing James Brown live in the early seventies and Michael Jackson (in the eighties, many times), when they b0th were in their prime (the best shows I have ever seen live). But sadly :-((( I never got to see Aretha Franklin live, except on TV. Oh well, at least I kept my promised to myself about two of them

      Sometimes phlegm comes up from the throat and makes you cough. She coughed to clear her throat and kept on singing. I've seen her do this many times before. As the song says, "A woman's only human..."

    • @HarlydarvySenior
      @HarlydarvySenior Před 9 lety +3

      Subwoof Xl You are correct. She always needs to do that.. I'm often surprised that singers don't need to do it more often.. Patti plays it off well I think. I've noticed that Patti clears her throat while smiling.

      Her voice had deteriorated during this point due to her smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day! But she still sounded pretty damn good here.

  • @sonztwin
    @sonztwin Před 12 lety

    Hmmm! I have the greatest respect for the Queen, but gosh, when I contrast this with the Flying Burrito Brothers' version, the latter sounds less overwrought, and therefore more genuine in its emotions. Aretha SO oversings it I can't hear the damned melody. I want a song, not a clever vocal acrobatic act.
    Here come the flames...

    • @malcumx5933
      @malcumx5933 Před 3 lety +1

      eight years later and you finally get a response... but No flames. Aretha had smoked too much for far too long. This is the sad result; he voice deteriorated drastically and, therefore, she tried to compensate with vocal acrobatics. 🤕🤕
      This is the only time i seen her not only struggle to sing while performing but also fail to get an apllause from the audience.... well... it's time to go watch some earlier days videos of her from the sixties and seventies.
