    Great job. I've used different methods but really like the dry mica for the northern lights. Thank you.

    I went a little too much mica and too straight. Can I use a black or charcoal gray and make more swirls to tone it down a little?

  • @MrsDeLow
    @MrsDeLow Před 2 lety +1

    I totally bombed my first try. I'm going to try again though. The mica absorbed too much even though I used under 3 ml of resin. So weird :(

    • @CNMDesigns
      @CNMDesigns  Před 2 lety +2

      Oh no!! I'm so sorry. Were you able to save it or at least clean it up and try again. Definitely as little as possible. Warm up your tumbler and epoxy a bit before spreading to help spread it as thin as possible.

    • @MrsDeLow
      @MrsDeLow Před 2 lety

      @@CNMDesigns I covered it with glitter and will just turn it into a peekaboo but I was so excited to make yours lol I’m going to try again with heating. After watching it again I noticed I should of done that. Thanks so much for your help. I used medium viscosity resin but do you think I could get away with fast set applying the micas? I’m thinking not lol

    Going to try this. You mentioned putting the brushes in acetone. How do you end up cleaning them?

    • @CNMDesigns
      @CNMDesigns  Před 2 lety

      I just soak them for a few minutes in acetone to remove any epoxy and powder, and then wash them with soap and water.

  • @MrRottweiler72
    @MrRottweiler72 Před rokem

    Just curious. Why spray paint the cup instead of using vinyl for the tree lines? Personal preference or does the paint looks better than vinyl?

    • @CNMDesigns
      @CNMDesigns  Před rokem

      Definitely just personal preference and prevents seeing any seams where the vinyl meets.

    • @MrRottweiler72
      @MrRottweiler72 Před rokem

      @@CNMDesigns thank you.... I didn't think about the seams meeting

  • @catherineluncinski959

    Do you think regular mica powders in the same colors (blue, green etc.) would work as well as the "magical" ones you used? Love the cup!

  • @violet-mj3wz
    @violet-mj3wz Před rokem

    Did you sand the cup after your base layer and before the mica powder layer?

    • @CNMDesigns
      @CNMDesigns  Před rokem +1

      No, apply paint, let dry, apply epoxy, while the epoxy is still wet apply mica powders. Let cure, add another layer of epoxy and then sand. Hope that makes sense and helps 🤗

    • @violet-mj3wz
      @violet-mj3wz Před rokem

      @@CNMDesigns it does, thank you! I was always told you have to sand in-between layers to give the new layer something to "cling" to!? So that's why I was wondering, because it didn't look sanded when you added the thin layer of epoxy and mica powder! 😉

  • @deenie2862
    @deenie2862 Před 2 lety

    Where can the magical mica powders be bought?
