- Finding the Detertorists’ locations in Staverton Park, Suffolk, including the lunch tree location. The Detectorists is a charming, British comedy series starring McKenzie Crook and Toby Jones. My film is an affectionate tribute which takes you on a tour of some of the beautiful Suffolk locations featured in the show and matches these to the scenes. This film takes you on a walk around the key location at Staverton Park at Woodbridge, used throughout the first and third seasons.
The Detectorists is a superb comedy, beautifully written, perfectly cast and superbly acted. If you are reading this then you probably have already discovered the show, but if you haven’t watched it yet then I cannot recommend it highly enough to you. Immerse yourself in the world of Lance Stater and Andy Stone and the other members of the DMDC, the Danebury Metal Detecting Club, as they search with their metal detectors for treasure, mostly they only find ring-pulls and toy cars but occasionally they find something special. It is a delightful journey as their various stories gently unfold and inspired me to visit the places that featured as locations in the show. My film, part guide and part tribute, shows you the Suffolk locations, matched to the scenes in the show with facts and location details.
The Detectorists originally ran for three series which were first shown on tv between October 2014 and December 2017. The scenes that were filmed here feature here include:
The Lunch tree
Septimus Severus
Meeting Sophie
Meeting Simon & Garfunkel
Magpies
Solar Farm
DMDC Rally
Bishop’s Farm
Andy’s Gold
Terry throws down a sondage
Searchin’ for Sexred
Staverton Park and The Thicks in Wantisden, Suffolk is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. This ancient park has woodland including mature pollarded oaks, while The Thicks has dense woodland with hollies, including some thought to be the largest in Britain. This is a great place to have a walk in the tranquil scenic Suffolk countryside and fans of the detectorists can spot the locations used in the show. Unfortunately there is no public access to either of these fields but views of the locations can be seen from the main track. This is a link to a handy guide:

The most beautiful show ever made. Full of heart, soul and poignancy.
I so wish there could be more of this series.🥰☮️
Very nicely done. I just binge watched all three seasons in 6 nights. I am British but live in Canada. Thanks Amazon Prime Video :>D
It really was a beautiful series!
Best one I’ve seen. Amazing transitions. Great work 👍
Excellent…good job, mate. That old oak is magnificent. Almost brought on a dose of hay fever. But the Saxon round tower??? Looking forward to the Christmas special.
Great video. Need you cats to give me some pointers lol.
very well done. I just found the show a few weeks ago.
Great music too
Very good video:)
The best.

Where is the location for diana riggs house...?reminds me of a road in norfolk nelson court
Hi NormaRead, The bungalow is in Framlingham. Check out my other video where we visited the Dectorists locations there. We did not include this location, but it could easily be added to the tour that we did. Check out the link in that video which takes you to a Google map which shows many of the Detectorist locations.
Excellent. I wonder if anyone might know the location of the roadside cafe at the beginning of (I think) s2ep4. They watch the news interview on tv with the detectorist who found gold second day. The cafe has very red interior. Any ideas?
Apparently it’s on the Newmarket bypass to the west of Newmarket. It used to be a little chef but it’s now a Starbucks.
