Not completely. Royce beat him once
@@outis439-Asakuraba defeated the gracies like 5 times or something like that LOL destroyed BJJ, exposed them
@@realtruth1448
-Sakuraba lost to Vanderlei Silva, a BJJ black belt
-Vanderlei Silva lost to Vitor Belfort, a BJJ black belt
-Vitor Belfort lost to Anderson Silva, a BJJ black belt
-Anderson Silva lost to Chris Weidman, a BJJ black belt
-Chris Weidman lost to Luke Rockhold, a BJJ black belt
If against Royce gracie that day there was a wrestler or a sambo master or a boran master, there was no change for bjj.
Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn were wrestlers in the early UFC events...
You were saying
All the grappling arts is like a melting pot now days
BJJ's biggest claim to fame is being able to beat people who know nothing about BJJ... Now it's supplementary at best lol
I don't get this "insult". Like, you don't have to know karate to beat karate, you don't have to know boxing to beat a boxer,
But you damn for sure have to know bjj, or something similar, to stand a chance against it. That just shows it's effectiveness
Almost every top MMA fighter these days studies at least some BJJ, or something similar like catch wrestling or SamBO. It's now a base requirement to survive MMA--the opposite of supplemental. Before UFC 1 most martial artists neglected ground fighting as "boring" or even "useless" and the Gracies changed the perception worldwide. Ground fighting went from "niche" and "optional" to "essential"
But Rickson Gracie is the real Gracie who proofed that JJ works against bigger and stronger Opponents
Very well said!
The only time Gracie submitted was to Islam.

Sakuraba smoked them gracies🔥 never forget
Just to keep things in perspective:
-Sakuraba lost to Vanderlei Silva, a BJJ black belt

-Anderson Silva lost to Chris Weidman, a BJJ black belt

@@JohnnyJitsu11 Oh butthurt Jiu Jitsu girl😭🤣 happy new year🥳
@@colbymasvidal2397 😂 happy new year!
Whenever someone speaks on the Gracie accomplishments, theres always those "but what about that ONE guy they couldn't beat"
Oh, ok. So, I guess their accomplishments meant nothing cause ONE guy beat them hahaha. Be careful, your hater is showing
Oleg Taktarov was the first Sambo guy in the UFC and he showed absolutely nothing in the grappling department. Khabib is like Royce with the whole "Our style is the best style"
Brother Gracy
Bro I wish Khabib goes to JRE someday.
The Gracies actually got smoked checked when they tried to fight good wrestlers. That's why UFC 1 had a "no wrestling
clause"
I find it interesting that the Nurmagamedovs are in the same position that the Gracies were. Where they are taking the world of MMA by storm.
"But bear don't know jiu-jitsu and bear was bigger than me."
-Khabib
And in UFC I and UFC 4, there were no weight classes and Royce was literally the lightest and won. No one else ever pulled that off.
he literally choked people with his gi and belt..which was a weapon. if the gi was restricted back then like how it is nowadays, most likely wrestling would be the craze instead of bjj. it was believed, that the early UFC were a propaganda by the gracie to commercialize their art.
@@Adiarby13 “most likely” “would be”
These are hypothetical words that are used to make a hypothetical argument. Anyone can rationalize an outcome in their favor when they are debating hypothetically. A hypothetical argument can never have as much merit as measurable testable results.
@@perfectsplit5515 well atleast we all know what happened to the gracie after the competition take away their gi
@@Adiarby13We know what happened to the martial arts genre after UFC I. It was transformed - by Royce. He brought the martial arts genre out of the dark ages.
@@perfectsplit5515 they founded a cult of course, full of braindead cult members "BJJ IS THE BEST WOOO!!"
I bet he would love to wrestle with Royce
Until the Gracies encountered a humble man named Sakuraba 😂
Just to keep things in perspective:
-Sakuraba lost to Vanderlei Silva, a BJJ black belt
-Vanderlei Silva lost to Vitor Belfort, a BJJ black belt
-Vitor Belfort lost to Anderson Silva, a BJJ black belt
-Anderson Silva lost to Chris Weidman, a BJJ black belt

The Gracie family got DESTROYED in Pride.
Royce Gracie the Goat.. He had to fight 3 men in one night with No weight class No gloves No time limit. He was crazy good.
He is the most influential MMA fighter of all time.
Then sakuraba entered the chat😂
BUT Sakuraba from Japan hunted and defeated ALL ALL Gracie family brothers, cousins, and everybody in Gracie clan 😅.
Regardless of what happened when MMA fighters evolved to start training in a striking AND grappling art, because of early UFC, it doesn't take away from the effect Royce Gracie had on the martial arts world
I never understand this call-out. I guess hating on the Gracie's is still "in"?
I just notice how Khabib English has improved. Barely specks Brocken English now
Rickson is BY FAR the best and baddest of the Gracie family!!! Even Royce has said he's never lasted a minute with his brother
Jiujitsu might not be the best base anymore but it is absolutely essential to learn. Otherwise it will be a short night.
then Sakuraba said, hold my beer
Got destroyed by WANDERLEI SILVA anyways.
@MO MO a man who was roided out and had 40lbs on Sakuraba. He can't hold a candle to Sakuraba
@@coachmikesfilmroom3111 Beat him like what ? 3 times ?
Sakuraba deserves respect but he never fought in the UFC. Pride was the minor league to the UFC. Rickson Gracie would have mopped the floor with Sakuraba
@mike b Sakuraba was a UFC hw champion. Pride in its heyday was the top mma organization in the world. Rickson ducked Sakuraba on multiple occassions. While being a great sub artist, he had no answer for Sakuraba's wrestling or kicking game. And the entire Gracie family hod no answer for Sakuraba's catch wrestling.
Lots of rice and beans on the table of BJJ instructors because of Royce Gracie!
Cesar gracie is a very Good instructor
UFC 1 was just one big advertisement for Gracie Jiu Jitsu.
Yes, by showing how effective it was. So, it worked pretty well
Khabib is showing respect-but we all know Royce wouldn't last 5 minutes against him!
Thing shave evolved since then you brain dead fuck
I wonder how good Royce would be now with everyone knowing how to deal with bjj?
See 2006 vs Matt Hughes but worse.
I feel there's an untapped market of great martial artists in Africa. Can't wait to see some of these champions to make it in One of UFC.
Don’t forget rolls Gracie eating sambo guys for dinner
He did a lot of development of the open guard. I believe he added more wrestling content to GJJ. Carlos created the original version of GJJ. Helio updated it. Rolls updated it again.
He forgot Oleg Taktarov lost a fight to Renzo Gracie.
Frank Mir changed mma for me when he tapped Brock Lesnar
The GOAT
Khabib destroyed BJJ fighters. 🙊
Khabib is trained in BJJ.
His English has come a long way! Get on the JRE!!
Yeah, the 1990s Gracies "In Action" video series showed the Gracies routinely having 2 and 3 hour fights with no breaks or rounds so they had really battle tested their family art. I mean they would fight all kinds of people until someone gave up. There were no ties. It was only the instant gratification culture of the U.S. that added time limits.
Gracie families make big guys tap like chickens
if jujitsu was hard..
it would be called sambo xD
No no, the only difference is that most do combat sambo. Not only sambo.
Respect
UFC was just a commercial for Gracie BJJ. UFC 2 Shamrock vs Gracie is all the proof you need.
Yes , at least a 15 lb weight advantage, landed one punch , got top position & did nothing. He knew not to expose so much of a finger on the ground against Royce
Wonder if he knows the "Gracie Killer."
Probably wouldn't matter to him. Cause he knows that regardless of what happened when MMA fighters evolved to start training in a striking AND grappling art, because of early UFC, it doesn't take away from the effect Royce Gracie had on the martial arts worlds
Their also no catch Wrestler's.
Legend
Chicken kebab would have ducked him he’s the ducking queen . One top ten fight his entire career😂😂😂
McGregor, Poirier, Gaethje, Barboza, Dos Anjos, Johnson were all ranked in the top 10.
McGregor, Poirier, Gaethje, Barboza were ranked in the top 5.
You blatantly lied. Nice try, though.
@shadowzeenko3653 This guy thinks Conor is Khabib's toughest fight ever lol. Khabib has had many more tough fights. especially his entire amateur career, 350 to 400 fights. Then you have all the fights he's had back home... then you consdier who his father was. Abdulminap is considered the most successful combat coach in the Russian records. He's created many champions.
these people never learn
Sakuraba might have something to say about Catch Wrestling being effective
I prefer Silat personally because dudes trying to stab dudes in the streets
wrestling becomes a liability in the streets and in jail
Gracie’s would also hand pick who they would fight and not fight.
Matt Hughes annihilated Royce because people were starting to understand what jiu jitsu is.
Rickson gracie the best ever
He beat Masakatsu Funaki, who was a master catch wrestler.
