ABOUT:🔻
The Two Ronnies is a British television comedy sketch show starring Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett. It was created by Bill Cotton and aired on BBC1 from 10 April 1971 to 25 December 1987. The usual format included sketches, solo sections, serial stories and musical finales.
Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett met in 1963 at the Buckstone Club in the Haymarket, London, where Corbett was serving drinks between acting jobs. At the time, Barker was beginning to establish himself as a character actor in the West End and on radio. They were invited by David Frost to appear in his new show, The Frost Report, with John Cleese,[1] but the pair's big break came when they filled in, unprepared and unscripted, for eleven minutes during a technical hitch at a British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards ceremony at the London Palladium in 1970.[2] In the audience was Bill Cotton, the Head of Light Entertainment for the BBC, and Sir Paul Fox, the Controller of BBC1. Cotton was so impressed by the duo that he turned to Fox and asked: "How would you like those two on your network?" Unknown to the pair, the renewal of their contract had just been declined by London Weekend Television of rival network ITV, freeing them to change channels.[2] Barker and Corbett were given their own show by the BBC.[3]

Their mastermind sketch is for me their best work .
Definitely whoop 🙌
It's so refreshing to see a young person laughing like that.
Thankies 🥰
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts That'sOK. A few of my favourite sketches from them are: 'Drunken wedding speech', 'Inventors' convention', and ' Accountant bore', if you would like to try those out.
Absolutely, bless her.
Here in Australia, the two Ronnies show was a big hit.
Sadly. they have now, both passed on...
RIP Ronnie Corbett & Ronnie Barker
RIP Legends and awesome 🦘
My favourite moment is always Ronnie C successfully not corpsing at "Sore tips".
Whoop 🙌 haha
Their performances are both spot on. Barker's edge was that he also wrote many more of the sketches (often under pseudonyms).
Whoop 🙌
This may be their highest rated sketch in Britain (closely followed by the "Mastermind" masterpiece), but neither go down quite as well elsewhere because so much of the humor comes from the dialect, or British slang/general knowledge.
Whoop 🙌
I met Ronnie Barker in a shop one day many years ago, he was very amusing. Thanks for putting this on.
Amazing and our pleasure
Thank you, and your good daughter has proved it's timeless comedy.
Glad you enjoyed it with us whoop 🙌
Brilliant clip. I have seen this clip by viewed by a few other people, but seldom have I seen anyone enjoy it as much as this young lady. Well done to the Dad for showing her how great the Two Ronnie`s were.
Aww thankies so much!
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts As an old man now (almost 89 years of age), these are the kind of clips that keep me in good spirits. I heartily commend you for showing your daughter what real comedy is.....No swearing no sex and no making fun of those who are less fortunate than we. Well done to the Dad, and to the daughter I would say keep on the track that your Dad is showing you. Best wishes to you both.
@@terrywright7470aww Thankies so much! 🤗🥰
This is their funniest sketch. Your reactions are great xx
Thankies so much!😹🥰
There is a longer version and when it cuts back to the studio they are doing an anniversary show and they talk about a better ending for the sketch which hadn't occured to them at the time.
Awesome 🤩
Lovely to see you both enjoying this together.
Us too! aww thankies
Ronnie Barker an absolute genius, born in my hometown as it happens :)
Love it!
English is such a versatile language, Sheakespear had a working vocabulary of 10,000 words as did Charles Dickens, he invented the word " Boring"
Whoop 🙌
A wonderful reaction to a classic Brit-com skit with the two geniuses Barker & Corbett. Just wanted to say, any Americans watching may not get the final joke about the 'Bill Hooks'. It's really funny for us Brits, but that one may need a little explanation...lovely reaction guys, thanks! 🙋♂
Haha Thankies so much! And also true 🤭 more fun for us 😏 🥰
does read butt hooks
Wondering, does seller hook that customer up for mokeing l-69-l rofl
I love this sketch so much. Omg I couldn't stop giggling. Everything they ever did was Instant Gold
Thankies and agreed 🥰😹
Thanks for this again guys lives seeing you both laugh at such timeless comedy.
Very similar to Morecombe and Wise Barker just works so well with Corbett the Chemistry between them is perfection
Glad you enjoyed it with us! 🤘😹
Needed a laugh, Thank you both. 🇬🇧😃
You’re most welcome 🥰😹
This video makes me laugh and smile for many reasons. Seeing how it still works 47yrs later!! Remembering when I first saw this and got into trouble at school the next day. My teacher hadn't seen this, so when me and my mates were saying Four Candles.. she gave us a slap because in her ears we were saying fxck handles? She found out the truth and everything was great. Although I am waiting for this to be cancelled by someone who has just woken up and is wanting to be offended by everything? Anyway great to see Dashy has the same sense of humour as old school Dad.✓✓✓ Cheer's. 🇬🇧
Thankies so much! Haha 😹🤗
I used to watch these guys back in the early 1970s
Whoop 🙌
Pure British humor hihi
Definitely 😹
The alternative ending works best when the female assistant comes in.
Whoop 🙌
"The true comedian was always Ronnie Barker." I reject your thesis 😂 As an American, I first saw The Two Ronnies on PBS, and Ronnie Corbett had me in stitches with his storytelling seated in a chair. I think the Mastermind skit is absolute tops, followed possibly by Four Candles and the Crossword skit.
Both amazing 🤩
I must have watched this sketch a hundred times over the years and I've only just noticed that the Hose at 6:15 that's left on the counter, suddenly vanishes and is never seen again!
👀 oh wowza good observation haha
Eclectic Beard.
Whoop 🙌
normally in a family its the mum that never stops talking and gives everyone an ear ache good luck working with your dad
Haha we are very close 🤗 Thankies . Luckily mum doesn’t get in the way 😏
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts It was my dad that pre-teen that influenced my comedy loves - Blackadder and Monty Python, I discovered Red Dwarf myself (I was born in the late 70s). Great reaction :)
@@fibrown444hell yeah! 😹🙌😹
What I always admire about this sketch is the fantastic set. All of us, of an older generation, are familiar with this type of shop. The older ironmongers which sold everything else as well. My family ran a little village shop and post office for most of the last century and one of these shops was in the next village, run by the Chandler family. If he didn't have what you wanted, then he could have on Thursday! Mr. Chandler himself is a vintage car fanatic.
Of course, Ronnie Barker was a genius wordsmith, but Ronnie Corbett really sells it all with his reactions and the grumbling as he trudges back and forth to the misconstrued issues from the customer's list. RB is probably an odd job labourer in a local builders or doing some building work nearby. Not great with words, but good at carrying stuff around, clearing the site, etc, and going to get supplies.
Agreed whoop 🙌
We have a shop like it up here in Lincolnshire, sells almost everything
@@vallee3140 It's saddening that such local shops are being dragged down because of places like B&Q and convenience stores and supermarkets. A old friend of mine set up a small grocers because he had been a manager in a famous big store chain, hated how they operated and decided he'd had enough of it. He retired at peace with himself. This was decades ago now.
you dont get the friendliness in the big supermarkets, plus the small shops usually will order for you if they dont have it, bet that friend had happy cutomers.@@josefschiltz2192
The guy you were on about is Alan aka The Eclectic Beard
Thankies whoop 🙌
I always watch this sketch a lot lol. As it always makes me feel better by watching others reacting to this comedy😂.There is quite a few sketches of two Ronnie's that I like , plus a lot of different sitcoms as I watch a lot of different types, and sitcoms with Ronnie Barker in them, lol. Like (Open all Hours, Porridge, Going Straight sequel to Porridge and Clarence), which only did 6 episodes, which is quite hilarious for him playing a character which is slightly blind and being a removals man that moves furniture, but he makes a mess of it by getting muddled up. All six episodes of Clarence are on CZcams, which you and your dad may have fun watching someday. As my dad likes watching Ronnie Barker also.😊😁🎸
Aww Thankies 🥰😹🥰
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts You're welcome 😁😊🎸
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts czcams.com/video/BifWvvrl6GY/video.htmlsi=6ygKMW5JsP0KLcee. This link is episode 1 of Ronnie Barker's classic sitcom Clarence. The next episode may come after that. If it doesn't I will send you the next link to the next episode. Enjoy 😄😊😎🎸
Ronnie C is the star here as the increasingly frustrated shopkeeper.
Whoop 🙌
I love your tree poster/canvas in the background. Where did you get it from?
Thankies 🥰
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts thankies? That's so cute 🙂
Great reaction guys. Might I recommend (if you've not already done it) their Argentinian Racing Pigeon sketch. It's a classic 🥰
Great suggestion! Thankies 🥰🤗
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts My pleasure 😉😊
I watched that again last night it never gets boring.
I've seen Americans really struggle to understand these comedians
Us Canucks generally get it
Heheh 🤭
Guys it was done on stage to a live ordnance. Crossword is every bit as funny if not more so.
Whoop 🙌
You are Right Ronnie Barker was a genius, but Ronnie Corbett was every bit as funny and these clips would be nothing without him.
Definitely whoop 🙌
You both check out the mini series they did over several episodes, 'The Worm That Turned" I feel is the better of the two. The other is 'The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town".
Can’t wait for more! Thankies 🥰
Loved your reactions have subscribed. Have a look at the Crossword one.
Thanks for subbing! Welcome to the family! 🥰😹
another brilliant sketch. try my blackberry isn't working with ronnie corbett and harry enfield
Haha Thankies 🥰😹
ronnie C did a remake/follow up with harry enfield! deff worth a viewing :)
Awesome 🤩
My Blackberry Isn't Working
that is the one i was trying to remember! :) cheers m8

Great as they are, Flaw number one, you can't have Electrical plugs in the Bathroom in the UK. You must do "Racing Duck"
Hahah 😹
Yea you can
Dad, cant believe you havent seen this sketch before? :D
He has 🤭
Ronnie C was the true comedian, and Ronnie B was a great comic actor. Saw them live and the absolute highlight was Ronnie C's armchair shaggy dog story. Still remember the joke. And the ending of 4 candles was different and much funnier. What exactly is a billhook anyway?
Whoop 🙌 haha it’s the end joke relating to a naughty English word 🤭
A billhook is a sharp hook for storing bills on - in the days before computers, every transaction came with a paper invoice or receipt, and small businesses would store these pieces of paper on a hook, ready to do their accounts at the end of the week/month.
But it’s also a wordplay for Bolloc*s English for men’s hanging fruit 😂
If you can find the optician sketch I think it is equally as good as this one.
Awesome 🤩
When Americans review this, they're stumped by the final 'Bill Hooks' punchline.
Haha 🤭
Yes most american also love Open All Hours.. the best from Ronnie B..
Whoop 🙌
Eclectic Beard. 😉
Haha XD
Sgoinneal 🏴
Whoop 🙌
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts whoop? Do you mean the small village just inland from Bragar... wiped out by a plague of cabbage mites that chose to become omnivores?
you missed off the las Ronnie explaining their wish for the real ending. If you'd let the video carry on you would have seen it. Great reaction all the same
Thankies whoop 🙌 and the video ended .
Glad you enjoyed it. Although Ronnie B was the more talented of the two, it was the gradual decline in Ronnie C's body language that made this sketch such a success. No doubt you will do some more Two Ronnies reviews in future. Try watching the sports commentary sketch where RB is the commentator and RC does a voice over as the video tape editor.
Thankies so much! 🥰😹
Pity they ask for 13Amp bathroom plug,it has been illegal to install an electrical socket in a bathroom for many years the only way to connect an appliance is using a spur switch to a hard wired fixed appliance.
Haha 😹😹
Really? I thought still can but no one has a big enough bathroom as like rules for so far from shower and water places
I looked a while ago and was fine if like in a cabinet (context I was looking about getting a bidet)
It's not illegal to have sockets in a bathroom - "Is it illegal to have a plug socket in the bathroom in the UK? Not necessarily; for a start, BS7671 (the Wiring Regulations) isn’t law - it’s a technical standard, although the HSE advises that installations which either comply in full with BS7671, or are no less safe than a fully compliant installation, are likely to comply with the relevant bits of the law. So it wouldn’t necessarily “illegal”, and furthermore BS7671 (and the statutory Building Regulations) aren’t retroactive - i.e. if you’ve got a socket in your bathroom in a position where it would be prohibited by the current version of the Wiring Regs but was allowable in the contemporary regs when it was installed, you don’t necessarily have to rip it out but probably couldn’t add a new one in a similar location.
The relevant provisions of BS7671 are:
The zonal system for bathrooms, which classifies different areas of the bathroom based on its proximity to the bath or shower tray. Zone 0 is the inside of the bath or shower tray, Zone 1 is the area above the bath or shower tray extending to the ceiling or a height of 2.25m, and Zone 2 extends 0.6m horizontally from Zone 1.
Regulation 701.512.3 allows 230V socket-outlets in bathrooms, provided they are at least 3m from the boundary of Zone 1.
So you could in principle have a standard socket-outlet in the bathroom if it’s more than 3m from the bath or shower tray, which isn’t possible in many layouts (particularly in older housing in cities)."
Music suggestion: "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - The Danish National Symphony Orchestra (Live)" czcams.com/video/enuOArEfqGo/video.html Remember Clint in this movie?
Whoop 🙌 haha
They both know it, so it's a review not a reaction - so Walter Defock's the point?
Whoop 🙌 it was a request from a pizza 🍕 and we loved it! 🤭
I like you watch comedy. This is TV series?
Whoop 🙌 it was
You should try to explain to your American viewers what Bill Hooks is mistaken for. When shown to an American audience they generally don't understand that last play on words.
I’ve replied to those who have asked 🤭
You certainly did Ronnie Corbett a diservice, maybe you should say sorry.
His amazing 🤩
Ha ha see what you did there
@@DashyXDAndDadReacts Took you long enough
You stopped it too early! Check out the ending when they are in the studio
This is the clip that we had at the time 🥰😹
Why English is so difficult to learn! 😀
Haha 😹
You’re being a little negative to Ronnie Corbett . Barkers best work has always been playing off someone .
as dad said and corrected , fantastic chemistry on both of the genius comedians
