This says a lot. Go into my local Tesco and see the special offers on beer. Three boxes of beer for the price of two etc. Always the top brands which usually means beers originally from somewhere in Europe but brewed, to an inferior quality, in the UK! Go into Lidl, buy a beer that i haven’t heard of, brewed in Germany, can’t ever remember being disappointed.
The germans certainly know how to make a pint.
Ima visit lidl tomorrow then, ive tried some of the aldi beers and im not impressed, only found one that was actually rather good.
Depends. Real ale is better in Tesco - more choice. Lidl Aldi better for crap lagers
Check the label where made, some Lidl beers with German sounding names are brewed in France.
Anyone know what happened to the Steinhauser lager in Aldi? Can't seem to get it anymore and is my German brewed beer sold here.
Even my local Aldi staff don't know why it's disappeared.
@@murrayturner1278 lol those dirty rotten frogs
just bought a keg, please note its stocked in the specials section of the store not the beer section
Sold out locally to me
What a recommendation. Your enthusiasm was infectious. Shall have to saddle my horse and head off to the nearest Lidl saloon at sunrise…
😂😂😂😂😂😂 what a comment
Just bought this today for the Euro’s absolutely worth it,works out at £1.50 a pint. Taste brilliant as you said brewed in Germany so can’t go wrong!
Excellent..Got myself one tonight for £14.99 in Edinburgh..Thanks for the heads-up
Thanks for the tip off on this Simon. Picked up some Festbier in cans (checked, and there was no real cost per litre difference between the cans and the keg) and also some of their wheat beer, which I’m now enjoying in front of the footy!
Just to add to this, they really are fantastic beers. It takes a lot of will power not to clear the whole shelf whenever they’re available!
What good luck to see this video today. I got a keg for 10 euros this week and it's in my fridge ready for the euros party this evening. Took a bit of a punt and expected crap beer, but with a reduction in can/bottle clear up post party. Now I'm quite excited to try it.
Got a can of this yesterday, just to try it. I kind of knew though that it would or should be good quality coz not brewed in uk. I drank it and wished I had bought the whole stock. Pure quality.
This seems very good value for a keg to be fair. In the current climate is hard to see how they can make much money on this compared to everyone else pushing the prices up.
I will say I love the fact that you didn't use the phrase "cost of living crisis" ... Which seems to be something that has just jumped out of nowhere and is not in anyone's control... That's certainly what they want us to believe. Great review and its something i will look to grab as ive not tried this one
Got the last keg today in Lidl on strength of your vlog. Put it in freezer for a fast chill. Absolute belter. Cheers
Just picked this up cheers Simon, and was grateful for you showing the opening of the keg and 1st pour - as no instructions. Great value I think- have a few of days off work this week so should get through it nicely especially with football on.
Thanks for the tip. Had to drive a few miles to get to the nearest Lidl but my cask of Festbier is now chilling. Cheers
Majestic wine are doing Paulaner Helles 5L kegs for £18, I bought three :D
I've got a Beerwulf Blade, she's been off for a while as kegs increase in price. This fridge keg is a great offering and it's greatly to know what deals are around from our beer community. Cheers
@xl447
Aldi are doing 5l kegs of Czech budweiser for around £16 I believe, not a bad deal
Cheers @@paulw6183
@@paulw6183 Yeah I had a look in my Aldi the other day, sadly they had none. Going to Lidl tomorrow to see if they've got the Belgian beers in.
Iceland often have Budweiser kegs, albeit slightly more pricey but usually under £20@@paulw6183
Hola mate, saw this very same keg in Lidl today at their store in Ciudad Quesada in Spain 🇪🇸 for €9.99 (£8.69) 🥳 Let battle commence 😳😵💫😆🤣
Here in Ireland it might be €30, crazy minimum pricing introduced a few years ago.
Good old BREXT !
@@kitcole4927 bollox nothing to do with Brexit, it's this poxy government, and all the dross they have let in and the price is high to pay for them
@@markthacker9387 It is BREXIT , also I believe that our tax on alcohol is higher than Spain . I assume from you racist remark you voted BREXIT as many did ,ignoring the warnings given by economists ,who have been proved correct .On immigration , this was lower before BREXIT !
Helpful video. Saw it in Lidl yesterday but didn't know how to use it - thought it might have been for a dispenser. Your video cleared it up for me.
£14.99 is a good price for an excellent beer, however, when you consider that the 500ml can is also available now @ £1.49, you have to decide whether the keg is worth all the faffing about, or, if just buying 10 cans is easier
Yeah I went to get one then realised the cans were the same price per litre. Not sure you gain anything in terms of flavour from the mini keg so for me it's not worth bothering.
@@colinjames5643you also have to drink it all within a few days. Where as cans' you can take your time.
For an occasional event/bbq with mates then maybe. Otherwise with no price saving it’s probably not really worth it/the hassle.
Nice beer tho 🍺
Needed to price the keg a couple of quid cheaper to get me to buy one, just my opinion😉
The kegs can be turned into mini barbeques if you're at all handy.
I got a few kegs from Lidl before £11 they were before the lockdown, two days of amazing thirst quenching beer. They inspired me to start homebrewing.
@DOcsavage1, It inspired me to pack it in.
These kegs in Lidl are incredible, the proper abv for a premier beer as well 5.5% ABV
They should stock them as part of the core range, they have room in the stores, particularly the newer larger stores
Strangely although a trip to the pub costs more, I agree, putting that extra £15 on the food shop psychologically feels more....but it's worth it and actually works out much cheaper that a pub...
Any one trying to get a keg, they aren't down the usual Beers and Sprits isle, they are in the foreign food section. It isn't really marked but down one of the isle is alot of around the world foods and drinks and that's where they were stocked in a few shops I checked.
😂 even the cats interested 😂! Hilarious! Caroline Ireland 🇮🇪. Saw these in my local Lidl , definitely will get one now
Popped in this morning to get some , didnt have this but had perlenbacher pilsner kegs at the same price 4.9% , got 2
Can confirm this lager is fantastic! Absolutely my new favourite. So smooth for a 5.5% lager but the trouble is it’s incredibly moorish! So glad I saw this video 👍👌🍻
Great review, Si. Bought two cans of this drink on Sunday afternoon. Went back today (Tuesday) to buy all the stock they had left. It's REALLY good - please Lidl make it a regular on your shelves.
@1:53 "I wish I had another hand.." that's what she said....(I'll get me coat) Cheers everyone! 🍺🍻🍺
... Saying it with his big blue eyes 😁
Thanks for the tip, I went straight to Lidl after work. There were several kegs left, but I got 10 cans plus a few bottles of Späten instead. Might pick up a keg tomorrow if there are any left.
I bought a budvar keg and it says open the tap first and then only when the pressure has gone after a few pours then you do the top one. 👍🏻🍻
Good to know as I have 2 from Aldi ready for this weekend & later in the Euros
Glad to see you back, mate. I'm drinking that now and and it's very good,
Glad I watched this great video. Saw this keg in my Lidl last few days and thought I needed a 'machine' to use it. Purchased numerous other bottled alcohol beverages from their 'fest' range instead. Will grab a few of these if they are in stock next time. Great channel. Great review. Subscribed ❤
👍😁,..Perlenbacher Festbier is brewed in the Frankenthaler brewery germany ,he owner of Frankenthaler Brauhaus GmbH is the Eichbaum brewery in Mannheim. Eichbaum was already in charge at the former Frankenthaler Brauhaus AG. At the end of 1995, when the entire brewing company was in a difficult economic situation, the Frankenthal company with its 42 employees had to stop production. The technical equipment was sold to Egypt. However, the Eichbaum subsidiary Frankenthaler Brauhaus continues to exist, renamed a GmbH. And “Frankenthaler” beer products are still available. Consumers don't find out a word on the packaging that they don't come from the Palatinate city. It is the more affordable products that are sold via this channel: Germania Export, Germania Pils, Eierbacher Festbier - the latter via the Lidl retail chain.
allerbest👍😁
Great to get extra details. Any idea of the hops used
Its hop extract not actual hops
I am just going down my local Lidl to try and find this , I am excited ! I plan to sup it over the weekend while doing a few jobs
Thank you! I saw a mini keg at Lidl a week or so back but I was afraid to get it as I’ve never bought a keg before and thought I’d need special tools for it.
Got mine a few minutes ago, thanks to your video. Cheers mate!
There were 4 left.
Came back to comment saying I got one off your rec and it's bloody delicious. Lidl not a local to me but got the last one, travelling down the country tomorrow for work and going to try 3 on the way to see how many I can get. Delicious beer thanks for the review!
I was in two minds about popping in to lidls this evening now im looking forward to getting a keg of this great beer for myself great review simon
I was just in Lidl and thought about getting the keg but ended up sticking to the bottles instead. I really like the big head though, reminds me of Oktoberfest steins. It’s a cracking drink, and the price is *chefs kiss*.
Perlenbacher outta lidl is a spot on beer. Haven't tried the Festbeir version, but can't imagine being disappointed. Thanks for the upload
Got one in the beer monster machine now and it's incredible. Will try and grab a couple more tomorrow for the shed.
Lovely description of the beer. Many thanks.
Drank this some years ago B4 covid. Great to see it back, as good a real ale as you can get in a tin..local Lidl parc tawe got plenty at the moment..well recommended.
Just picked up a keg of this can't wait to try it this evening and also to match the perlenbacher pills beer glass including a can of beer inside it for just £3.99... cheers🍺
This makes perfect sense and I'll try it, yours truly, new subscriber.
Been to a few lidl in Scotland trying to get some and found 1 with very few kegs left! Cmon Scotland 🏴💙
Sounds lovely. Looks lovely. Will get some based on your review Simon 👊🏻😀
Love the channel, off to Lidl before I go on shift 👍
I bought one of these today more for the novelty of having a keg than it actually being any better flavour-wise or value than the version in cans.
It's a decent beer and by no means expensive but if you're on a budget I'd say the Champineuglles form Asda at £1.10 per 5.5% 500ml bottle is king.
Plus, as you say the first couple of pints from these kegs have a huge head on them that can result in rather flat beer.
Just been down to Lidl and got myself one I’m looking forward to tasting this one
Excellent descriptive review mate, might have to get one now. Hope they have the cans if not
Now went and bought some and it is lovely…
Hi Si, missus just bought a keg and your vid popped up Happy Dayz
Chilled down keg, sinking a glass or two on a warm sunday afternoon. Nice drop of beer this. Cheers 👍
Swwn them yesterday a bought 3 ......just waiting for the BBQ season to start. They are currently relaxing in the fridge in the shed . Waiting for that occasion
This knocks the socks off any nasty UK inbev beer. Please make this a permanent fixture LIDL! The cans are equally as good at £1.50 a can is an absolute bargain. Well done LIDL it gives me a reason for going in!
Thank god corfu has a lidl.1mile from the airport and next to the bus station. Simply cannot wait to get some there as well
A Festbier in June? THAT'S CRAZY TALK!
Nice one! Hope you going to work your way through the beers in the latest Lidl beer drop you haven't reviewed before: Spaten Premium Hells, Abbaye de Vauxclair Biere de Garde, Greene King Hazy Day, Crius 8.5% Strong Blond Beer etc.
Great review Simon! Am on this at Lidl after work 👍🏻🙌
I have a 5 litre mini keg of Paulaner to crack open watching the footie this evening it’s one of my favourite lagers also
Seen this is my local lidl in Ireland yesterday didnt buy it but after seeing your reaction and your opinion on it must give it a try and pick one up tomorrow cheers
£5.60 for a pint of Dortmunder in Glasgow these days. I like that it doesn't have a device, there's a market for £15.00 kegs of German bier, well in my house anyway💚
I would travel to Glasgow to get a pint of Dortmunder. Can't get it anywhere in England nowadays as far as I can tell.
Did you get a chance to pick up the Spaten Helles that released with the beer festival this time? I picked up one bottle to try last night, went back today for more and the full case had sold, so it must be good!
Got 6 cans from the limited section in lidl, absolutely gorgeous 😍
This seems to be better to your taste buds than the original review with sausages
Hello Simon! I stubbled across your channel a couple of years ago when I was searching information about a couple of Lidl beers, from that moment I`ve enjoyed watching your videos with beers, food but I`m not an "active" subscriber on the comment section. I don`t know if you had this request before but I think it will be a good idea if you put a picture it the ingredients and other useful information from the product, especially the Lidl and Aldi products because they have supermarkets across Europe.
For example, In Romania, the Perlenbacher 330 ml botte was changed and now the beer is brewd in France (yes, is stated on the back label) and the cap is not twist to open anymore. The abv and Plato degrees are the same but the taste got better.
Cheers!
FairPlay that’s my kind of kitchen, Beer and Kegs everywhere. cheers 🍻
June on is cider season me ol’ babber!
Great Channel mate. Just bought a keg and the can with glass. Looking forward to it tonight with the footy⚽
I got the can with the mini stein. Thought the beer was nice, shame they didn't do those cans separately.
Looks awesome. Off to Lidl now DrZ🙏🏻
Just wanted to say great video, really enjoyed it thank you
Just purchased two about a hour ago. Gonna be a great weekend. Btw can you still get Lowenbrau anywhere? Bavarian lager with blue and white chequers
Never bought the keg but got 20 cans of the festbier, football, great beer, weekend sorted!
Probably the same stuff as the Fest beer they used to sell in 50Cl tins. Woops, you just said that. I always thought it tasted like a dark lager. It was 5.5% ABV if I remember rightly.
They sell those cans for £1.49 so works out exactly the same price per litre. But with this you have the novelty of having a keg I guess.
Thank you, il head into my Lidl in Macclesfield pick up a couple and give it a go at the weekend :)
enjoy and hope the weather breaks
Great review, but there's no saving over buying it in cans is there?
What’s the expiry date like , might get some for Xmas
I made a point of going to Lidl off the back of this vid. Picked up 6 cans, although the can design was different to the keg you’re reviewing here. Assumed it was the same stuff though. Drank over the course of the weekend. I have to say, although it’s clearly a great quality beer, by the time I finished the 6th I’d actually gone off it. Started to find it quite caramely and malty. I’m not sure I’d buy again sadly.
Hi there,
Just accidentally come a cross of Yours video here - I'm not a "Beer Guy" per say, but I'll Go tomorrow and buy one for the weekend as well...!
(If Lidl selling it in Dublin)
I mean £15.00 = 5L = 10pints = £1.50pp can't Go Wrong with that for the weekend...!?!
Great recco, they had three types in my local lidl and spotted one of these in the back, result 🎉🙏 had tried the other two both nice mind
It really is fantastic beer. Wonderful value, as are the cans of this and the cans of wheat beer that are in this week.
Will have a look for it today but it'll be a miracle if there's any left.
Right I've just been out and bought 2 happy days 👍🏼
Ran down to Lidl after watching this and managed to grab the last keg at my local! Cheers for a great review again mate!
Good choice on the beer taps 'Brains bitter' cracking beer
Well, well, well.... After my earlier post, I decided to venture into my local Lidl where they still had plenty of kegs. Maybe the people in my local area are a bit snobby about "fest" beer.
Well I am not disappointed. What a thoroughly easy beer to drink, nice and smooth, quite neutral in taste, not too much grapefruit/coriander, less body than say a 6.6 Leffe, but nice caramel/chocolate after taste. And it's so refreshing. I'm not sure how long the keg will last for, hopefully a week so I can finish it . Might have to invest in a few more kegs before they are all gone.
Drink it quickly, mine wasn’t great on the 3rd day
@@realaleguide that's not so good, I did wonder about shelf life once open. I've probably drunk about 1.5 litres today and thoroughly enjoyed it but I'm not a big drinker, maybe the cans are a safer bet
Simon have you seen the Grolsh cans in Sainsbury's might be worth a review its brewed in the Netherlands and shiped to the UK ? . As always loving the vids 👌
Saw this earlier today and didn't get it as wasn't sure if it was any good. May have to get it now.
I feel tempted to take a glass along and sample it instore.
Looks like it's raining cats and dogs again in Barry Simon. Well, cats anyway 😁 Great review again.
Just picked up 3 cans of the Festbier to try and 2 cans of the Wheat beer Simon👍🏻 here’s hoping they are good mate 🍺
When they scrapped Grafenwalder lager with inferior Perlenbacher, I stopped shopping at Lidl. I hope this is better. Do they do it in ordinary cans?
Had a couple of kegs as birthday or Christmas presents and found it so much hassle getting the beer out, would rather get mine out the bottle
None in my local Lidle .
Also I have noticed that in all the big supermarkets here in Taunton, Somerset there is a clear reduction in the size of the craft beer sections. Maybe the bubble has burst ?
They definitely seem to be thinking about which direction to take the beer, I'm keeping an eye on Tesco, they have reduced the craft beer section....I think imported continental lager is getting more popular, so they might get some of those in..
@@tomwilliams7391 True.
Bought one yesterday. Quite nice! Question though : after first draw, do you re-close the valve or just keep it at the quarter turn? Instructions on the side of the vat by the way.
In my Lidl the keg is of Perlenbacher Pils in their beer festival, though the label is festbier. Not sure how you would open that either...
Been ooking gor it for ages
Great beer sitting with it just now enjoying the golf
Euros finished at ten past 8 on friday night for me after the Germans second goal
only got the cans of it in my lidl and the kegs they have got in are perlenbacher pilsner
Well I don't think Rishi is feeling things are tight, he's got sky tv now. Tosser. I find getting these mini kegs difficult to chill without removeing all the food and shelves from my fridge which the wife is not keen on 😂
Better be quick, got the last one on the shelf in Acomb, York.
This beer contains hop extract but it's not listed in English (hopfenextrakt /extracto de lupulo).
Is there a reason for that and is it something we should be drinking?
Do you have to close the valve on the top after you pour a pint when using these kegs to keep the beer fresh?
You could do but there is no way of knowing if it’s closed or not
Have to admit a buy this beer seems to be the best out there
Don’t think they are in all stores unfortunately fund the pils one though so got 2 of them
