+1 on the personality point - I'm still very early on in this process but I feel like it's so far on track. The realtor I've worked with the most over the last 6 months is established, long term, and gets good houses. She's definitely made an effort to help me grow and be successful. Why? The photographer she had been using (who is one of the best locally on quality) was rude to her on a shoot. That was enough for her to give me a chance and so far I think I've been able to deliver despite a couple mistakes early on

I found myself nodding my head in agreement several times and no matter how experienced you are, don't fall into the trap of thinking or behaving that you know it all.
A case in point was mentioned in the video and I thought " I need to make a note of it and address it" and there's nothing better than taking a good, long hard look at yourself and the way you conduct your business. Cheers Nathan, keep 'em coming...

Thank you Nathan for your valuable advice. I am starting my business and I am looking for my first clients. You talk about subcontracting some activities that we can't do, it's indeed a difficulty in my region (Reunion Island, Fr), photographers don't communicate with each other, we are really isolated. So I need to be able to realize alone the services as much as I can do it. In any case, a big thank you for the time you give in your videos. Cheers

Thanks for the video, Nathan. I think our industry needs a more self confidence and professionalism. When I see shooters doing jobs for such low money it devaluates all of us. Most of the time its low quality work with off shore processing. I realize thats a fact of life in business. What cheep shooters don’t realize is that a quality realtor will pay more for better work. It’s our job educate our clients and deliver better products. That will keep the clients coming back to us when the “bottom feeders” come knocking.

Great content and very helpful thank you, the z5 looks a great option for photos but what camera would you suggest if you only had 1 camera for photo and video? I assume the Sony a73 or the z6 ii? Also what flash setup do you suggest, Thanks again :)

Hi Nathan, You mentioned that other Realtors will "see your photos when they hit MLS". That opens the debate about whether photographers should put a faint logo in the corner of the photo so that those Realtors will know who took those great photos. I've been doing that for a while now; want to know if I should keep doing it. What is you opinion about that? Many thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge with all of us! Jim
Putting a logo on your image violates rules most MLSs have about branding. Besides, no realtor will take the time to try to find you from a logo lacking contact info; instead, smart realtors network, that's how word of mouth is spread, so take off the logo and let your work speak for itself...if it's good, then it will.

Thank you for this. I'd be interested in knowing your thoughts on referral programs. I'm going to give one a try with an online order and scheduling company I subscribe to. Not sure how keen I am. See what happens I guess.

I had one realtor complain about the "darkness" of a room that was loaded with ebony furniture. She compared it to a previous image of the same room with very light almond furniture and wanted the room to look the same. I explained the difference in the furniture and offered to go reshoot the room free of charge. She said that what she had was fine. I looked up the property and she used the old images from the previous listing and hasn't bothered to let me shoot a property for her since. This was in the beginning of 2022. I have reached out to her a few times and even offered to shoot her next listing for free. Still nothing. How do you fix that? I even asked her to help me improve by telling me what I need to correct, still nothing. I can't correct anything if I don't know what it is. And like you said, maybe it had nothing to do with the shoot but more about personality. I don't know and about to just give up. I had 4 clients who used me regularly and I would usually have a shoot per month from each. All but one have ghosted on me at this point. All have said they love my work etc. And I can't figure out what I did wrong to make them disappear. Additionally, I haven't been able to attract any new clients. Do I suck that bad?
