Continuing a visit to Carcassonne, France, we explore more of the Old Town and walk down to the New Town, or Bastide, finding the open-air veggie market and pedestrian shopping lanes. Carcassonne is a medieval fortified village, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with a castle in the middle and walls around it. We get the perfect view from below in the evening, and leave the next morning to continue our journey through the south of France.

I went when I was 12 but I'd love to go again.
I feel like I should go with friends. I'll have to sort that out.
Sack the new town, it's the old town that strikes me.
I'd do this and the museum that holds the Tapistry of Bayeux (which is further north I think)

Hello dennis, not sure if you would reply but could you tell me where you found those maps of old carcassonne?

Oh, sorry, I didn't see the question previously. The maps are mostly from Baedeker's old guidebooks, pre-1923, so in the public domain. I have several hundred available on my website : tourvideos.com/maps-index.html

This is a beautiful historical place... If you had only one day to visit (arriving in the morning and leaving by night) what would be the sights you wouldn't miss?

It is small, you can see the entire Old Town, and get down to the New Town for a quick look also.

This brings me back memories. I went there when I graduated from college many years ago. What tour company did you use. It seams so interesting

Aside from being a bit more crowded in season, it has probably not changed much in those years. The tour company is me, I organize it and conduct the tours.

denniscallan that’s awesome, do you have a touring company or you just organize the trips independently?

I did visit the cemetery on my recent trip and have excellent shots walking through it with the city walls behind -- a video I will edit in the future.
