Madrasapattinam is not only chennai. It was a large state comprising four states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh before independence. Linguistically it was divided into four states after independence. After the linguistic separation, Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, was then called Madras. Now madras became chennai

It's called Chennai which means "Red Soil" as this region was covered by red coloured soul then.
Madras pattiam only came about when the Tamil's started to call it by adding pattinam to signify its township then.
N it's more a Telugu word but funny enough Tirupathi is a Tamil word!!!

Madras was a name coined by the British on identifying it to be a port. Chennai was coined much later and it's a Telugu word or name meaning Red soil or hamlet (as this area was covered by red coloured top soil.
The funny part is that Tirupathi is actually a Tamil word or name.

I went to watch this movie when I was in my final year colleg. After watching this movie the whole Chennai looked so beautiful. My friends invited me to do something . I dony remeber but I said no jm going home n i went to basen bridge n sat silently for few hrs there thinking about this movie that much impact on me. I don't know my ancestors loved some white British girl. But the song was in my mind n i couldn't overcome it fir a week... After recovering from this dream it's just nakku mukka but I won't say it's one of my favourite i will always say it's my first favourite.... In terms of story a simple story, music cinematography.i will miss my Chennai n the girl reacting to it n like it is more beautiful than Emmy Jackson....
