  • My Prints have this weird Banding! WHY?
    Banding can sneak up on your prints and you probably have no clue what is causing it!
    The causes are several and can be combined as well.
    The trick is how to solve Banding when it does hit you.

      I have banding on my image prograf Pro 1000. It is only in the bottom of prints With solid/even colors. And if I print only the bottom part of an image they are not There. So only appears when printning a full page.
      Tried the auto aligment and could see White Lines in the grey test ærterne (plus a few other places)
      However after realigning it has actually grotten worse as I now see 7 banding Lines instead of 3..
      Any idea if it still is an aligment isssue or something else? Nozzle check seems fine.

    Very informative video. I find that banding that shows on a print will almost always disappear when you crank up the print setting. e.g. In place of printing at Normal go to Best and it 's not visible?
    Of all the printers I have owned banding always shows up on the Normal print mode (always where there are dark areas) You usually get away with lighted shaded prints. As I say my solution is to print out in Best mode.

    Hello Jose, thank you very much for your great imaging and printing content, im a new subscriber to your channel, i was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on a problem im having with my printer, im using the Xerox C315 Laser printer, i am getting horizontal banding when i print solid colours it seems to happen more on greenish tones but really happens on any solid colour to some degree. When i print actual images/photos it doesnt seem to happen, any thoughts of why this is happening? thank you in advance.

    I fixed most my horizontal banding on my prints by using gloss paper to print printhead alignment values when plain paper would not. However , there is slight banding after cleaning cycles and nozzle checks . And I repeated this process a few times after. Also, there is slight bleed outside the white borders of my prints. The colors are great but the white edges bleed black ink and the light horizontal banding will not leave . My photos are taken in raw format if that helps. one of my black ink cartridges was leaking more than usual but is now fixed. Last note, the BK (black) cartridge after nozzle check , has some banding across it. Not very visible banding, but it’s there.

      All good info but....what printer are using again? Head alignments need to be performed on glossy paper and not plain. You also need to have a 100% clean nozzle check or the alignment will simply not work/

  • @adventurehouseauctions7730

    Trying hard to find a solution to my problem. I have an older Epson Artisan 1430, and recently I've been getting blobs of black ink on the page, as well as a strip of lighter ink coverage at the bottom of my 13x19 full bleed images. Almost like the printer is printing a quarter inch high 20% fill. I'm using Canon Semi Gloss paper, but it has the same problem with multiple sized and quality paper...always the same result, unless I print it on plain paper.

    I'm experiencing some banding in the last 1/3 of many prints. It's most visible in dark areas. The bands are random widths, wide, and fairly faint, with no sharp lines. I've run all the maintenance procedures and fiddled with different paper types. Overall clear coating helps reduce the appearance of the bands but does not eliminate them.
    I've printed your test image and everything looks flawless.
    I've also noticed some pizza wheel marks on some prints, so maybe that's related?
    Any help is appreciated! I've also submitted a request to join your FB group.

    Regular, even banding horizontally across print visible in a jet black background - Canon recommends switching to unidirectional printing. Does that make sense?

      I don't use HP but did you run a Nozzle check??? Missing or non firing nozzles will definitely cause banding. You else need a 100% nozzle check to even run a successful head alignment. Is the printhead on this HP printer thermal? You may have damaged nozzles as a result. These cannot be revived.

    • @TheMilkshakeuk
      @TheMilkshakeuk Před 4 lety

      Jose Rodriguez Thank you so much for replying, its a hp printer 800 plotter, by nozzle check you are referring to the printheads ? I have done a serious of printhead alignment and checked if the printheads are not clogged- but i get horizontal banding when printing- in fairness the test serious only yellow seems to be with no line breakage the two worst are the magenta and black

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 4 lety

      @@TheMilkshakeuk yes. The nozzle check print out will show exactly how open of how blocked the printhead is. It it is blocked, running cleaning cycles will help in most cases but since it is a thermal printhead, the wear out as they are used and it may just be permanently damaged.

    Hi Jose, I'm having a banding issue and hope you may be able to enlighten me. I'm printing on a Canon PRO-2100. The print head was installed in April 2021. I'm getting a half-centimeter thick band and the end of the print; usually within the last inch. This is the only place where banding is occurring. It happens with all colors, not a single color. I've done nozzle checks, deep cleaning, head alignments, platen cleaning, and head cleaning. I can't seem to figure out what's happening. I've changed the print quality, no luck. I've used different papers, no luck. All of the settings seem correct. Have you, or anyone else, run into this issue before? Thanks for your help and time.

    Hi Jose, thanks for taking the time. Question: Canon pro-1000, perfect nozzle check, connection via lan, head alignment done with glossy paper, printing from Lightroom dng / tiff 16 bit. with 2 types of paper, one glossy and the other baryta, I see lines 1.18 to 2.36 inches from the top right edge (last printed) as bands. The lines run along the path of the head for a few centimeters and are always in the same position. The papers are flat and I tried to raise and lower the height of the head. Issue occurs only with these papers, with matte papers with same thickness works well. Any idea?

      Barium Sulfate coated papers have extremely delicate surfaces. Anything that touches the surfaces will mar it.
      I need to see a good close up of the scratches or Bands on those prints to be able to give you my 2 cents.

    I have banding on my index image in the blue and green full saturation to white lines on both the PRO 10 and the PRO 100. I was assuming it was just an imperfection in the printers. I manually aligned the printhead on the PRO 10, which noticeably improved the images, but the blue and green bands remained. Am I correct that the fault is with the printers, or is there something else I should be doing? I took photos, but I can't figure out how to attach them to these comments. Thank you so much, Jose!

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 4 lety

      You can't attach photos here. What inks are you using. My pro 100 and 10 do not have banding when printing that image. But remember that is an extreme test. You may not see any banding on your actual image prints. Remember I also said that blue can show banding. I don't know why.

      @@cheo1949 Thanks so much for answering, Jose. I'm using all OEM inks. I wonder what I'm doing wrong. On another, possibly related subject, I know you aren't into Macs. Who can I ask for advice about all the different devices affecting the color? Between ColorSync, "Printer Features," Affinity, Photos, etc. I'm sure the printer is getting conflicting messages. I need to ask someone who understands the Mac interface.

    Hello Jose. I have a reoccurring problem which happens on various epson printers after a few hundred prints. Solid black in photos will have slightly faded horizontal streaks every centimetre or so. Black starts well, then fades a little, then goes back to normal. So you end up with a slight wave effect over dark areas. Nozzle check is fine. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thank you for your time!

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 2 lety

      So......what printer are you referring here? Are you using Original inks and carts? Or are you refilling? If you are refilling, your carts may not be delivering ink at the HIGH rates needed to provide even DARK tones on photos. The lighter "Bands" occurs when ink cannot be delivered at the required demand rate. Then it recovers for a bit and the cycle repeats again. Bet it does not happen on lighter low ink demands image areas.

    I have always used an Epson WF 650.
    My new one is an Epson WF 850.
    It came with four inks, they printed 7 A4 photos, the coloured inks ran out so I ordered the three coloured inks from cartridge inks, Epson 603, they printed 9 A4 photos and ran out in 15 minutes
    I walk the wild for months every year and print out my pictures on A4 with a nature diary, hundreds of them, all kept in a ring folder always using compatible inks which gave good enough photos for my photography.
