  • Thailand's sugarcane farmers are hurting as an oversupply last year has driven prices down.
That's compounded by the strength of the Thai baht, which has increased costs for the industry.
And China, a traditional market, is now protecting its own sugarcane farmers.
Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay reports from Udon Thani, Thailand.

At least sugar doesn't go bad! It's pretty funny that they were trying to smuggle sugar into China. I also found out that there is a Thai brand that cans sugar cane! I want to teach those farmers how to make paper from the fibers! And perhaps prototype making skiis from a composite of the harder bits.

Hello Aleena Saha just wondering regarding your comment on making paper with sugarcane fibre! You mean writing paper!

Yes writing paper, or for painting. But happy to experiment with different thicknesses. Even paper plates. Is this something you’re interested in?
