I worked the sugar cane fields in Puerto Rico in the early 60s...for just a week. We'd get picked up in the predawn hours, trucked to the field, which had already been burned. We spent 10-12 hours cutting the stalks with hand machetes and grabbing armfuls and stacking it in huge piles. We had about 30 minutes for an on-site BYO lunch. At the end of the day you were covered in ashes, hands cut up from the cane leaves and blistered from the machete handle after about 10,000 swings. I was lucky...I moved on, but the men that worked those fields did so 5-6 days a week for a lifetime.
hello😃
Average lifespan is 46yrs. Most die of kidney failure due to dehydration from long working hrs in a physically demanding work. That is close to slavery. And there is no sufficient drinking water if available.

that sounds horrible

No one talk about the truck driver’s reverse skills 😂
It's slow motion.

I don't care! Backing a double trailer straight is a super power.
Sugarcane my childhood sweet memory.♥️
I was stunned when they harvested it. Those drivers are really good
I picked fruits and vegetables in Australia. We’d pass a sugar mill on the way to work, not the best of smells as we passed by, but a smell I now miss. My best memory’s working in regional Australia. Great people

Amazing!!!!!
Thank you for this video.
Love it..
Cuando veo estos videos, se mezcla la admiración, y la sospecha de que esto no es la solución sino parte del problema.
Impressive harvesting machine, works fast. In my farm, we do it manually.
Nice video.
I was totally impressed with the guy in the truck the white truck that was driving in reverse and keeping it straight and keeping up with the harvester.
When it was done manually.. the images of sugarcane on fire brings back some memories.. our 30+ hectares sugarcane farm was accidentally burned down about 33+ years ago, which devastated my late father back then.. becoz time was essential to harvest them right after burning..
Браво производителям сахара, хорошие труженики!😊

What makes me so impressed is the modern harvesting machine. So cool, so fast and so easy.... Sugar cane juice is fresh and sweet by the way 😊😊😊

i wish i could build it in minecraft

Thanks for this video. Very interesting!
Wonderful Australia making sugar....very amazing!!!
I love watching this video. Thank you for sharing 😊 As an Agricultural Economics student, this might be helpful for me in conceptualizing my research paper about sugarcane industry.

Sugar cane was also grown years ago in the southern part of Florida, (Belleglade, South Bay, Pahokee, etc. ,harvested by migrant workers from Jamaica. Fields were burned also before harvesting. I'm sure your research will find this info, plus after the sugar mills started to shut down, companies that needed sugar for manufacturing their product looked outside the US for suppliers. I know of one personally in Albany, Georgua, Bob's Candies shut it doors and relocated to Jamaica but eventually went totally out of business because the heirs died out or were too elderly to go on with operations.

Good. Amazing. Though Good there is no lot of people involvement. Machineries make men lazy. In population countries unemployment problem. Instead if they give employment to lot of people, God bless the Business Head. Best wishes.
Loved the music also 🙏🏼
I love your vids man!!
Excellent video. I understand the full cycle. Great choice of back ground music.
It’s true I live in Louisiana we have a lot of sugarcane it’s some cool stuff😊 (Edit: thanks for the heart man)
In the 2019/20 harvest alone, Brazil produced more than 650 thousand tons of sugar cane, destined for ethanol for cars (fuel) and we are self-sufficient in sugar. The Brazilian car fleet already has 80% that consumes fuel alcohol (ethanol), which is also added to gasoline + 27% alcohol.
Very interesting video the drivers skill is very appreciated especially the reverse. Thank you
Lived in South Florida all of my youth. They grew cane down there until mid 70's. They burnt the fields but cut the cane by hand. Now they do not burn and cut by machines. Times have changed.
@Pamela Mallory Harvest is about to start in a few days in South FL. kinda wet at the moment.
In india we still doing it by hands

Efficiency and bean counters and competition, etc.. took the romanticism out of the industry a long time ago (maybe for the better?)
But I will always remember the old days in the Caribbean with my grandad when I was a lad - looked like hard work though!
I find it fascinating how they come up with all these machines to make product
Respeita nossa profissão parabéns isso que é vida
Really enjoyed this video. I live on the island of Trinidad (in the Caribbean) and sugar cane used to be our main agricultural crop. That is until the government of the day (some years ago) decided that the state owned company (that ran the industry) was not profitable and shut down the company and killed the industry.
Actually the Caribbean, Central and South America most of their main agricultural export industries such as rice and sugar, were set to fail by more powerful countries that force The small nations government to accept the larger countries subsidize exports if they wanted protection and global aid. Basically racketeering on a global level. Of course when those markets were flooded by imports from larger companies with deeper pockets l, the local farmers could not make any money or compete, and those smaller nations were forced to become entirely dependent on the larger nations Export rácket. This was set in motion decades ago by many administrations long gone from this earth.
Similar situation in Mauritius, this happened with new trade laws that gave equal opportunities to each exporter and subsidies were no longer provided. Small countries could not compete.
@@Ded-Ede so what's the solution to this?

SIDA Wears aww. Thanks a lot
When you let the sugar cane grows out a flower on top of it, you lost 10% of sugar. The sugar cane has to take the sugars away to form its flower.
Thanks! I never knew that
Yeah in my country we burn them to remove leave, pest and hairto easy harvest.
