being single not bad when u think this way - can come and go as you please - - - sometimes people are lonely or unhappy being married to wrong person. BUT not knocking marriage either - good when you have right person - not everyone has been that lucky.

For those who think the movie is too long, it was released on television as a three night miniseries. It wasn’t made to watch in one sitting. The same goes for The Stand which is even longer.

Wow, your comment really struck me. Everything you said exactly matches the way I watched this movie... In 2000 I too was alone watching this movie alone and single. After a second marriage and a few successes and failures here I am again. Just so happens as I begin to watch this movie there is a monster storm brewing in my town and most sadly there is another storm brewing in my life.
I'm struggling to hold my head up and face this storm. I know all things are possible through Christ so I am clinging to the hopes and promises of the Mighty Word of God..

Storm of the Century was filmed in Southwest Harbor, Maine, Winnipeg, Toronto, and San Fran.
Some trivia: Colm Feore (Andre Linoge) took it upon himself to make friends with all the child actors, as he didn't want any of them to be genuinely scared of him.
Little Tall Island is the same where Dolores Claiborne was filmed.
Stephen King does an ad on the smashed-in TV in Martha Clarendon's house for the litigation law firm Macintosh & Redding.
ABC spent $35 million on this pic, mostly in creating the mother of all storms with the snowy scenes to maximum effect. (Personally, I was certain that the series was filmed under a genuine snowstorm. Extra Kudos to the Fx folks on that one!)

I stopped reading him at "Needful Things", didn't make it half way through that book. I thought and looked back, his writings suck. The movies are better than the books. Oh, and I am from Maine, born and bred, and still here. I know all of King's influences very well, like the name of the demon in this is French, a classic tension which needs to be overcome or lose.. There are small things in them people 'from away' don't notice. Lest you think I am full of shit, my family is from 'down east' and I live not far from him in Southwest Maine, in Bryant Pond, not far from Tucker. He has gone insane, if he ever was sane. I think his writings come from his perverse fantasies of retribution for everything he suffered in poverty as a child. There IS two 'Maines', and always has been, to this day.

@@vincentconti-jb3hd He was hit while walking on the side of the road, knocked 14 feet away from the pavement into a ditch. The driver was distracted by a dog in the back trying to get into a cooler. King almost lost a leg, had a long recovery, and pain caused him to stop writing for a period. "Reportedly, King purchased the van from Bryan Smith so fans wouldn't try to get their hands on it for a souvenir. It cost him $1500." "This was reportedly done to prevent the vehicle from being sold on eBay, and the minivan was then destroyed at a junkyard. King would later remark he fantasized about destroying the vehicle himself or even letting others take part in smashing it to bits for a charity event."

I wished I could read the script since the book was not written due to Stephen King did the script for this film which was extraordinary. I feel for Mike who loss his son which he was against this demon that stole his only son. It is hard to imagine everyone being okay to give the demon their children as long as they are safe - but to what excuse since it is devastating to lose a child in the end.

I watched this TV-Series when I was home with the flu and off of work which I didn't like (I was in Germany at that time). So this was true bliss. I changed my career to something I loved (screenwriting), but it took a long time to find myself and where I belong and what I love doing. Long story short I always felt I connected with the series, surrounding, genre. I also went on a holiday to all the locations of the series. Well and I love horror. After all these years I will now move to Nova Scotia this year, where parts of this TV movie were filmed. Crazy to do this after all these years. It was never really planned. :-) What I love mostly about this series (next to the location and the acting) is the actual story...a blueprint of what happens everywhere in the world. It is so timeless. :-) And Linoge is my all time favourite villain, who in a way is better than the islanders or rather speaks the truth, even if he has to force it out of people. And Michael Anderson is the only one who tries to fight or tries to do the right thing and acts strong. Lots to learn from this screenplay. I also love the fact that this is the only work of King where he instantly jumped into writing a screenplay rather than a novel. Very intriguing to read the actual screenplay. :-)

The last time that I watched one of Mr Kings films was the Tommy Knockers at the cinemas many years ago now . Over here in Great Britain Stephen King is literally a breathing Icon of Horror movies . What an incredible imaginative mind he must have ?. One hopes to be able to watch more of his movies in the future as they are great to watch all alone on a cold dark and lonely winters night.

    • @JPJPJPJP

I love needful things. My sister is three years older than me, when the book 1st came out we both read it. I don’t know who read it first or who bought it, and then handed it to the other one. But we must’ve spent hours talking about it and laughing about it. One of the things in the book that made us laugh wise the picture of the Jesus Christ on the wall that would talk to the woman that would be sitting around the house, eating the Entenmann’s cherry cheesecake. Our parents had the same Jesus picture on the wall in the kitchen in the basement and in the kitchen on the main floor and Entenmann’s cheesecakes particularly cherry cheesecake was a regular staple in our house growing up. So we kind of felt like it was so real. And just laughing about like sitting there hogging out on a cheesecake and then all of a sudden Jesus starts talking to you from the picture on the wall. I don’t know it just grabbed us in a strange way because how many times will be sitting there in the kitchen with that picture of Jesus staring at us, while we were binging on some thing or the cheesecake! I don’t know I try to explain things, but I guess unless you’ve been there it doesn’t seem the same? Thank you so much for commenting and yes needful things is a much deeper movie, then it appears to be. The book to. I think it is much deeper than it appears to be I would love to see a remake John, so that the younger generation could watch it and to maybe have it done in a less comical way, in a more darker way, or like a miniseries or some thing because there’s a lot of truth in what was portrayed about how each one of us has some thing that triggers us and how will you need is like one rotten person to hit two people against each other and basically start Armageddon. By the way I used to belong to a sci-fi club in the Poughkeepsie New York area a few years back and then it ended up disbanding. I really really miss the intellectual discourse that was present in that group. That’s why I love the comments on the Stephen King movies so much.

I like his movies that take place in Maine. Many are partly on location in various places that i recognize. He uses common Maine names, People and towns. He often mentions real towns but where the evil takes place he uses fictional town names. I suppose he does not want to connect the evil to anyone in those towns. Pet cemetery is another. The house where it takes place is used, but only the outside. The inside is a set. I used to know the owner of the house. It is really spooky!!!
