  • Luca Massaglia (www.lucamassaglia.com/) plays "Pari Intervallo" by Arvo Pärt (b. 1935).
Hauptwerk system, Cavaillé-Coll organ of St. Etienne Abbey Church in Caen, France.
"Pari Intervallo" was composed in 1976 on the occasion of the death of a friend and is dedicated to his memory ("Anläßlich des Todes von M. K.").
The basic musical material consists of two parts which move exactly parallel to each other, so that the interval between them (a minor third) is always the same, hence the title.

Over the past five years, I lost both my parents and my brother. When I listen to this music, I always have the same vision. I see them sitting at the back of the church as we listen together. This piece has the unique gift of connecting with my grief and loss. For a moment we are reunited.

I found a song for my wife’s coming funeral. Longing, peace, hope, light. Such an emotional piece and intepretation. We both loved Pärt, I still do. Thank you.

Brilliant piece and just as brilliantly played! I heard this piece at an organ recital last year where I thought It stood out among the speedy notes by Bach and Buxtehude. Pari Intervallo truly touched my soul. Afterwards I decided I was going to learn how to play the organ myself and I'm currently practicing this piece. Thank you Arvo & Luca for being a source of inspiration!

Arvo Pärt tiene el particular estilo de ser impredecible, y asi involucrar a su publico, atrapandolo en un viaje nuevo (no una, sino varias veces, intemporalmente). Es facil dejarse llevar por esa musica impredecible y hermosa.

Hello! I am very sorry, but I really don't remember, since I recorded this piece a long time ago. Anyway, I am sure that you can find an excellent solution of your own. All best wishes!
