The casting for the live-action adaptation of Moana (2016) is coming together. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson shared updates on his Instagram, revealing some of the actors who will bring the beloved characters to life.
The first images introduce Catherine Laga'aia, the 17-year-old actress set to play the titular Polynesian heroine, Moana. A Sydney, Australia native with Samoan heritage, Laga'aia is relatively unknown.
Also Joining the cast are John Tui, as Chief Tui Moana's father, Frankie Adams, as Sina (Moana's mother), and Rena Owen, as Gramma Tala.
Johnson also reminded fans that he will reprise his role as the demigod Maui, writing, He also announced that production for the live-action Moana will begin in August, with the film scheduled to premiere in theatres on July 10, 2026.

@MckenzieRobson, yes but this is a live-action remake of the original animated film and not a continuation of the story 👍
So Moana 2 is happening this year and then 2 years later the live action remake feels weird honestly just because we haven't even reached 10 years for the original Moana 20 year's later makes more sense but by 2026 it'll be 10 years but still feels weird
Princess and the frog or tangled live action should've happened first given the order of release Heck frozen is huger and a little bit more older but even that isn't getting a live action
I just feel like Dwayne Johnson just wanted to do this because he wanted to make it about himself
