- From Fremer:
Last weekend's Florida Audio Expo was another successful show. Attendance was substantial-aided by heavy weekend rains, which is always good for hi-fi shows-and good industry participation, which was a combination of regional dealers and the smaller "indie" manufacturers, many of which also participate in the Capital Audio Fest and its Seattle cousin.
However, also participating were some major, well-established and/or up and coming manufacturers. In this video you'll see the latest new products from established companies like Fine Sounds, which distributes Pro-Ject and Rotel and of course also markets the Sumiko cartridge line. This year Jeff Coates chose to show less costly complete systems-one for around $2000 and one for approximately $6000- along with a series of new products.
The well-respected Japanese brand TAD returned, having made a big splash last year at the show with a big room as a new distributor made a push to re-establish TAD in The United States. I interviewed him and the company CEO who again flew in from Japan to find out what progress they've made here.
Also in this video you'll find an interview with the CEO/Founder of Perlisten Audio-a domestic loudspeaker manufacturer that's made waves-sound and other kinds-over the past few years.
Despite the vinyl revival, the show was not turntable-rich though there were some here. VPI had a major presence, and there were turntables from a few other companies but this show was mostly music from servers and streaming with the iPad ruling the source control roost. There were a few rooms with tape decks.
Major and smaller U.K. based brands like Rega, SME and others were not present, not was Technics. Even when rooms had turntables, more often than not, at least when I visited them, they were not spinning.
In other words, for the most part this was a digital show. And if it proved anything it's that digital sound has greatly improved. There was much great digital sound though when vinyl spun in the big rooms, there was another kind of sonic magic. Day two video coming up shortly!

If I were to invest in a company, it would be Project. They are ON IT! Smart useful products and a service to all of us upstream for introducing new people to good sound. Just smart products and approach...useful form factor, good quality and good price point..
Fremer: "Do they sound any good?"
Answer: "I don't know what do you think?"
Fremer: "Do you play em' or have sex with them?"
Answer: "I think it's really up to the owner, we did put a port on them"
Fantastic that he finally realises that there is more to hi fi than a turntable. We actually got to see some speakers.
Would be nice to have some timestamps so we can jump to specific rooms/products.
Nice touch making each person wear a mic. Nothing worse than unintelligible verbal audio from other CZcams videos that claim to be about high-end sound. Finally someone who "gets it."
Well done Mikey!
Lovely to see Project electronics being shown. I’m a big fan of my RS pre-amp.
it's a plastic world with them
Yep
Some really nice stuff, Michael. Good show Thanks for showing it to us, take care and God bless.🙏 Yes, some of it is too rich for my blood, but some not.🎶🎵🎸🎷👍👍👍👍👍👌
Thanks again for bringing us along, the Wilson’s I thought were the most reasonable sounding room.
Many thanks for the great coverage Michael. Now if you could only get Annie to come and sing in your listening room with XVX/Dart as that would be an awesome video to watch.
A great video Mike! Keep'em spinning
Terrific report.
"Getting rid of hum" is interesting. It must be common. I feel so lucky to be using my phono/hifi with a battery - inverter off grid power system. No hum ever.
1h0830 Looks like a properly "refurbished" TASCAM BR-20 N.
Pricing is outa control.
love records they still remain in the realm of sensible and affordable.
So do any vendors have any products of good quality that have prices that are based in reality? Or is this one of those expos where only companies who cater to rich snobs with more money than sense show up? I've never been to one of these before, so I don't really know.
“The Full Fremer.” It’s just as much of a title as it is a warning / disclaimer 😂.
very diplomatic assessment of a guy who I think is bad for the hobby.
@@richardelliott8352 ok? 🤔
Wasn’t going that direction. And weird you feel that way.
So, when does your free show-report content get released on CZcams again?
And when you’re not judging others, how are you helping this hobby?
Would be nice to see some actual innovation and not just new veneer finishes.
Yep, it has already been perfected but that doesn't make money lol😂
Feel free to take an R&D job with one of the manufacturers or start your own company
@@justadad2304 dumb reply
Didn’t know Matthew Broderick was into high-end
TAD Price Level 😂😂🤣🤣🙈🙈
This is a hobby,Not a necessity...I understand that a majority of the gear isn't for meer mortals and it is to show off the latest and greatest...But,It would be refreshing to see a few sellers highlight some of the cheaper gear.after all that is what they will sell more of in the long run.. that is what funds the development of the expensive gear....
I would put money on it If there was an expo that highlighted 100-5000 dollar gear,They could sell more gear and have happier customers and in the long run have more people interested in buying more expensive gear in the long run. But, That will never happen...
There are two classes in society and audio...
Because affordable gears are boring to read, watch, or talk about.
'When you connect to the www you get a whole lot of noise because you're connected to everybody else'. That must have been the biggest bs of all audio-fool bs I have ever heard, but Fremer wholeheartedly agreed..
Why r U here then
@@floydlaza8751 Excuse me?
@@floydlaza8751I am here to watch the show in all its glory. Good gear, poor gear, silly and astute comments from exhibitors etc. Why do some say "why are U here then"?
Don't know who "U" is but that ignorant shut-them-down comment exasperates me. We are not sheep.
i wonder when this absurdity in pricing is going to end its really out of control
Just don't buy it and quit bitching about it!🙄
Yes, the pricing in the high end has now taken on grotesque forms and the remaining mostly older fanboys are still defending it...
If you prefer live music, I think the world's tiniest violin is playing your song
If you are not buying, why complaining? 😅
Absurdity is a nice way to say rip-off. Seemed like Alot of the used car salesmen were just throwing numbers out there.
Great video though. You did better than I would have at not laughing in these guys faces. 😂
Everything looks like police radios! Sooo boring. I want big old VU-meters and brushed steel
here we go again with nils lofgren ugh
Dreadful. Clumsy shaky out of focus footage in low light conditions, with boney knuckles and fingers and distracting legs walking in and out of shot. Unwatchable.
