I should say, this shell is VERY cool and I am happy I found it. I have been made aware of many ways it could have made its way to Florida. Either way it's a neat mystery and we can only imagine the stories this shell could tell!
I do shelling vids myself and can say a lot of the weirdo shells that we find on the beach are what we call WEDDING SHELLS lol... shells people buy at the craft store and put on the beach when they dp their beach weddings lol
Not usually anything where folks are trying to fool people 😅😅
I also don't think it was anyone putting shells on the beach for tjwir kids to find because there are so many shells here people don't need to do that😊 the area of desoto you were at it is very likely that someone had a ceremony on the gulf side and the shells got washed arpund a little
They will move around the bottoms of places it happens at pass a grille too 😉
The volute is a distant cousin of the junonia and it has very big cousins in Australia lol... we do have volutes here in the Florida fossil record. I have one ;)
PS there was a cool fossil on the bottom of your towel there too- looks a lil like the tip off a horse conch but is actually a fossil from the plio/pleistocene - I only got a quick glimpse of it by it looked maybe like a cymatosyrinx lunata maybe so give that one another peek too!
Fun day fort desoto is incredible
Keep your eyes peeled for flamingos up there too we had a couple get blown here from idalia that have been hanging out!
PS if you're in the area a lil linger ypu should check out shell key. You take the ferry from Fort desoto boat launch over and rheres usually lots of goodies over there for shells too
20:54 Cymbiola nobilis ([Lightfoot], 1786) formally named, Voluta nobilis, it's a common shell from the Indo Pacific region, it is not local to Florida. Same family Volutidae, as the Scaphella junonia. Shell names are getting revised often due to DNA being easily available, so books are often out of date prior to getting published.
Often well-meaning people return shells to the ocean for others to find, beach themed weddings leave shells behind, and hotels will seed shells for tourists to find. I have collected shells in a scientific capacity since the late 70's and some of the comments regarding its whereabouts are speculative and a "well meaning" guess.
I found a beach where someone dumped a bunch of shells that weren't native. I figured they didn't want them anymore and didn't want to throw them away so left them for someone else. It was so weird to find though!
I'm so glad I have Kyle to go Shelling with me now! I can't wait to go back and find more 🥰
I am OBSESSED now thanks to you 😍 Love you, Babe! ❤️
I'm glad Kyle has you to do things with now. It's good to see him smiling.
Love you sweetheart ❤
Awww we love a happy Kyle❤❤
How beautiful! My dog Ted and I would love someone to hunt beach agates with ❤️ love from Tasmania Australia 💕
I love your shell collecting videos! I like that you put the live ones back into the water and pick up trash. I collected the Florida beaches on family camping trips in my teens and have kept them all. So glad that 50 years later the same species of shells and sea urchins are everywhere! Thanks for sharing your adventures, Kyle. I'm such a fan!
That is the biggest Calico clam I've ever seen! & hinged! Right on!
That shell that isn't native to Florida, might have hitched a ride on an ocean liner. There are really many ways it could have made its way here. Be happy that you found it, and display it proudly. 😊
That Volute isn't considered a craft shell. It's a very nice shell. Thank you
Also watch a wonderful lady who shells on Sanibel and often joins group visits to Kice and other FL islands.😊
Glad I found another fellow shell man 😁🐚❣️So enjoy watching and learning the names of seashells 😁♥️Looking forward to seeing what you all find in our new year 2024!
The only thing better than finding something cool is finding a cool _mystery_ . Thanks for sharing the adventure, Master Kyle.
20:50 Nobilis Voluta /Noble Volute Shell/The snail was once commonly found in reefs around Singapore. Excellent find.
Great stuff for aquariums!!
Beautiful shells, your noble volute is probably a wedding shell. I watched a video that talked about how shells like your end up on the beaches in Florida. People having a beach wedding add those super cool shells for pictures of the wedding, then leave them behind. Oh well I think it's a cool find anyway. Thanks for sharing
Wildcouple 😁 Thankyou both for the trip to the beach, here in the UK it's way too cold to go.
Looks like you had a great day shelling. Today is tulip day tomorrow will be apple murex.
Hi guys, kyle, don't worried about sharks in the park water.Worry about alligators and snakes.Great shells
Oh, im so happy ur lady got u into the shells. They are so beautiful❤. I do love all of ur hunts👍💕🇫🇮
I haven't been in Florida since 1991,miss the beaches .
That is one of my favorite things to do is walk the beach picking up shells . My top favorite thing to find is sea glass . Love the video Kyle
Ft DeSoto ey!
We love Fort Desoto beach when we visit Florida. Early morning shelling when the tide is low, bfast with the sunrise. GREAT finds and what a cute couple!
🥰🥰🥰
Kyle and Natalie, the starthrowers. Incredible collection of beautiful shells!
Wow, sea urchins 😮sand dollars! You have it all in America & I am so jealous 😊
My old stomping grounds, since the 60's growyup on SPB. Awesome to see, much camping and partying, great fishing.
My favorite beach, I have baskets and decorative jars full of shells from 1990 to 1995 I collected with my son from our daily trips to Fort DeSoto. Enjoy...❤
I sure enjoyed watching this one!! Beautiful shells! Love the tulip shells 😊😊😊
I loved your shelling video Awesome shells 🐚
Oh, lovely shell hunting again. Great to see you, Kyle, with your charming lady Natalie. I love shells! I would spend all day on 1 little patch of sand, looking & looking 👌
I can literally stay in one little spot for hours! 😂
@nataliespidle5093 Oh, Natalie, we are in tune. When I leave a beach, my neck hurts from looking down for so long constantly on the lookout for beautiful shells. Happy hunting lovely.
Great video. I hope to see a video with you and Natalie and Chris and Bree all together sometime.
Just got of the phone with Cris to make plans so that should be happening very very soon!
That’s awesome. It should be a great video with lots of finds and laughs. Can’t wait.
Someone couldn’t bear the thought of throwing out a shell collection so they put it on the beach so others can enjoy them. You can only guess.
So beautiful ❤
So many beautiful shells😍
At my beach we call them wedding shells.
Great video Kyle and Natalie. So many beautiful shells 🐚. 😊
Loved the shelling video!
Thanks so much Melissa!
I know it sounds awful, but I feel like it’s better to yeet the living critters farther out so they don’t keep getting swept in by the tides.
Great video!
I've thought about that a few times! I'm scared to do that around the beaches here because of the rocks in the water though 😬
This was a fun video to watch and forget how dreary the scenery is in Harrisburg PA at this time of year. You two found amazing shells and watching you leave the live creatures there did my heart good! Wishing you a safe and wonderful 2025!
I love how you've evolved with your videos! Fossils, bottles, now shelling! I love everything you do videos on! Keep enjoying life and making awesome videos!
❤ nice shells!
People tend to call the shells that aren’t native species “wedding shells” because it’s common for people to purchase them to decorate their ceremony and some blow away or just get left.
I've heard this from a couple people now, probably very possible that's how this one ended up there!
Looking forward to you taking Natalie on a bottle or fossil hunt.
She's been on a few already!!
Kyle, bear in mind there are also a lot of shipwrecks off the coast of Florida and shells were often used as ballast in ships back in antiquity. So, it could be that that shell was used as ballast on a ship that sank and it got washed up due to the storm that you said had rolled through. Also, the species is listed as vulnerable so I find it sad that it's sale hasn't been restricted.
Thank you for letting us join you and Natalie on your shelling excursion. Fort Desoto was my grandmother’s favorite place to take us shelling when I was a kid visiting.
Thanks for coming along with us! It's such a beautiful place and with tons of awesome shells. Must have been so fun as a kid too!
Good eyes! Great saves! Extraordinary finds! Y'all have been killin' it! ♥
Thanks so much! ❤️
Great finds that new shell is fabulous no matter how it got there 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩💖💖
The weather circumstances I believe are referred to as El Sobrino which translates to the nephew, hopefully the weather will come to change soon and return to normalcy.. I'm kidding about the Sobrino thing I don't know what its called
Happy New Year, Kyle and Natalie! Awesome finds, they are all very pretty! So happy to see you rescue so many friends! Thanks for sharing!
since the main currents of the ocean meet on the coast of florida, Lots of shells from around the world and deep in the ocean can be found on the beaches.
That was a flame-streaked crab claw at 6:45. They are gorgeous! Very happy Natalie has you out treasure-hunting not-so-fossilized shells!😊 I may have been right across the bay from you at Pass-a-Grille beach that day. There were tons of live banded tulips there. Hope she takes you there too. One day after a bunch of wind recently a friend and I rescued at least 10 big horse conchs at Honeymoon Island that were in the rocks... Congrats on the J! I've never been to Ft D on a good shelling day. Since I live in New Port Richey, I usually just go to HISP. But at a neg low tide morning I go all the way down to P-a-G. Yeah, after you did the video at HISP, that storm came through and pulled sand into the north and Oasis parking lots which were closed for several days. There's a term for shells that are found that are not native. We call them "wedding shells". They're most likely from a shell shop and got there from wedding decor... Great finds!
About that "NOBLE" Shell... seems it was another Florida Tourist 😂. Now Florida can add "Shellbirds" to its Snowbirds List, 😂. Beautiful shell 🐚 😍 SCORE!
Shellbirds! I love it hahaha!
Assume Finds!!! Thank you so much for sharing them with us!!! Have a Happy New Year!!! God Bless Us All!!!
That shell is indeed not local to Florida …it is a Noble Volute Seashell-Nobilis Voluta. As a previous commenter mentioned …probably a shell left behind from a wedding on the beach.
It looks like a volute!
We were in lecanto for almost a week and a couple of spots that we visited. I couldn't help but tell my mom and stepdad about your videos. I was really hoping to find my own Olive unfortunately I did not get an opportunity to find any😢
Looks like a Volute shell that we get down NZ and Australia way.
Wild Kyle! I meant to mention on your last shelling video... plleeeeaasse be careful picking up cone shells. They have extremely venemous stings if the animal was still alive inside. Turn over with another shell in hand or use a stick to be safe! We want to continue seeing your wonderful videos!! ❤️ love and light from Sam the marine biologist
Florida cones are not dangerous.
@@TheAdventurousRealtor all cone snails are venomous. Maybe not deadly if one is not allergic, but painful nonetheless. Not to mention the risk of infections. Cheers!
I believe the beige striped shell u found is a ocean noble volute .
Man the Tulips and Olives are some of the prettiest for sure and you two killed it on the beautiful shells but I think my favorite are the conch shells , I love all conch shells though. But by far the best find of the day is the Dinosaur !! and so well preserved 🤣🤣
I can't believe I found a 66 million year old dinosaur skeleton in Florida! 😂😂😂
Ship ballast water. Picked up elsewhere, released nearby.
I always find tons of olives, scallops, and fighting conch in that area but never tulips. Hopefully I will have better luck next trip.
Naples Florida has tons of Shells
I went to Sanibel Island a couple years ago and was amazed at all the beautiful shells. The place I stayed at had a shell identification station which was really helpful. I was also able to find fossilized shells with calcite crystals along the causeway. They use fossil pits to shore it up like they do for the back roads that you’ve shown in your videos.
Muratic acid will bring the color back on shells in about 5 seconds
We just did that to some of them today! It worked great!
What a cool find at the end of that Voluta Nobilis... and for those who can't speak seashell, they have a more american version name.... Sparrow Shell.
Man, can't believe how many tulips you guys found. I'm like half an hour south of Sarasota and I never find that many good ones down here.
I couldn't believe it either, tons of them!
Awwww! The Calico scallop at 15:29 looks like it has hearts down the center!
Sometimes i find shells that aren’t native being used in weddings as a decoration, also i’ve seen some people who buy shells at the store and plant them for hermit crabs. still a super cool find!
Oh yeah didn't think about a wedding or planting for hermit crabs! Super interesting!
Kyle got shelled! Like Normandy ahead of D Day😍!
Many hotels put them out for guests to find
The strange smell in the beginning... probably the seaweed decaying... haha...
Absolutely 😂😂
Nice to see you having fun in the craziness 🫶🏼☮️✌️
That show that you found from Malaysia was quite different but then again, maybe a weird freak thing that it might’ve gotten stuck in some debris on the boat that was coming into the harbor area which is really a freak thing but but anyway I’m glad to see you out and enjoying life again The weather looked wonderful even though it was windy and yeah, that was the better freak storm because that was a lot of sand but I’d love to see you go back into the little creeks and back areas and find some nice prehistoric stuff make teeth and a lot of other shark teeth and bones may be a collab with Derek, the rock master at Palio, Chris and Bree. It would be great to see you all together again I miss seeing the bunch. She is having a good time together and I love everything you found Kyle and keep up your singing career you will make it honey. Love you buddy.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I enjoy Fort DeSoto
It's such a fun spot!
I believe some of the shells that u thought were Turkey wings are mosey arks. I’m not positive but I’d check it out.
Happy you both love shell collecting, but it must have been tough rescuing that ankylosaurus. Bet he put up a fight!😆
Oh yeah, I was worn out after that one 😂😂😂
You know theres alligators in that water 😮
I reckon somebody released their pet hermit crab…
So many beautiful shells, Kyle! That storm threw up a ton of stuff to look through!❤
We also have water everywhere here in germany, a lot of rainfall the past few weeks. Hope you had great finds, which I am sure you had! The claw came from a firebox crab, I'm pretty sure.
As much as I love the fossil videos it was so neat to watch you find LIVE ones! Respecting the life is great of you two. So many do not.
We will ALWAYS put the live shells back no matter what. They belong in the wild. ❤️
Watch out for puddle gators😅
🐊🐊🐊😂😂😂
Those are gorgeous shells! And that weird one was super cool. I can't believe it wandered all the way from Indonesia on its own. Maybe it came to Florida on vacation! It could happen! But it's an awesome find! And I like your fish and the ankylosaurus! I'm pretty sure that's what that was. One of my favorite dinos! Just amazing finds! Thanks Kyle and Natalie! ❤ Happy New Year! 🎉
Definitely possible and I'd enjoy that so much more than it ending up there from another person! Hahaha.
Crazy!
Rising Sea Levels in Florida, no kidding.
Hello
When doing the wrap-up, the 1st thing that caught my eye was the toy Ankylosaur. It's pretty cool that you find some modern relatives of the fossil shells I've seen you find in the past. An important question about Natalie. Does she share your love of Cheez-Its?
Nice shelling video, really enjoyed tagging a long with you both, lovely finds, and nice change of pace. :) More please!
Thanks so much Carey! More shelling videos to come for sure!
That zigzag pattern shell looks like a type of volute shell, very common in Australia, never seen one in Florida. Great find guys!!
Fun video Happy New Year guys 👍🏼
Thank you Charles! Happy New Year to you too!
I did not know you couldn’t touch a live starfish! I’ve saved so many and I picked them up, so I probably did not save them at all. That makes me sad. Great video. I love a good shelling video! Love your new Natalie too. She is gorgeous and makes you happy…I can tell. Thanks for the fab vid!! Happy New Year❤
Hi Kyle, and Natalie! Great finds! What a day for Tulip shells! And the ever rare Fish and Dinosaur as well. 😉 The Genonia,/Junonia, though broken was pretty fantastic as well! Loved the video, take care and stay safe!!
Loved the video! If you’ve never been to Cancun, the beaches have only the tiniest of shells and you really have to hunt to find any shells at all. We were there in November and the beach was practically unusable due to massive clusters of stinky seaweed on the beach and in the water. I was walking along the beach and spotted something glistening from inside a tangle of dark brown seaweed. I’m glad I investigated because it was the most gorgeous dark brown 4” deer cowrie shell. I’m guessing it got wound up in the seaweed mat as it traversed the Gulf of Mexico, but even if it’s a wedding shell I’m excited to have it as a souvenir.
Volumes are in Australia too. They get huge.
It's called a SINISTRAL Cymbiola Nobilis Volute Seashell Native to Phuket, Thailand.... great find ps all you have to do is do a Google image search n it will pop up that's what I do if I don't know what something is it helps alot in the shell, fossil, gemstones and minerals world
I have heard that some shell collectors dump shells for others to find so that they can have the joy of finding shells too! I think that would be a pretty cool thing to do and plan to do this too when I am older and need to downsize my collection.
It looks like a Baler shell (the mystery shell) Great shelling videos, :) Thank you
Nathalie sounds a lot like Paleo Chris’ girlfriend.
So strange how we collect skeletons. Shells and fossils. I wonder why. Curiosity? Beauty?
I figured a big part of it is our primal sense of "hunting and gathering". I believe our love of collecting things is deeply engrained in our biology!
@@WILDKYLE Interesting theory. Partially correct I think. But we rarely barter for other goods. We hoard or sell. The dinosaur part of our brain seems permanent. Good call.
@@icatz yeah I think there's a whole lot more to it than my theory, but it's bound to be a combination of things, like most things are. There's culture, greed, etc. that all absolutely plays a role.
@@WILDKYLE I think also trying to fill the emptiness we all seem to have in ourselves to some degree. We use food liquor drugs sex things to try and fill it. I have rocks in every room in my house and sometimes I stop and wonder why. Granted, it's been educational learning about rocks since I was small. I like how my collection makes me feel small, knowing they're all so many millions, or hundreds of millions, years old. Boggles the mind. Our earth is alive.
Wow what a great video! Loved you both but please pick up the garbage you pass over.
We picked up a bunch that day! Wouldn't be surprised if some passed us by though!
Awesome finds!👍👍
love it..man from norway
A wedding shell 🐚
