  • North Beach at Fort De Soto Park is located on the gulf side of Florida in St. Petersburg and is just 35 minutes from Tampa and we consider North Beach at Fort Desoto park the most underrated beach in Florida and is definitely one of the best beaches in Florida as well as being the best Fort De Soto beach.

If you want to go where the people kite surf go under the Skyway bridge. Depending on which way the wind blows is the side they are on. Someone can tell you the best place to rent one at if you are renting. There is a trick to not pay tolls over and over again. Always take the rest area exit on either end it takes you under the bridge and you can get back on missing the tolls on either end.

Take the shuttle from the Bay Pier inside Ft De Soto. You'll find a lighthouse, Forts, walking paths and another awesome beach there. Accessible by boat only. They do offer snorkel trips on the rocks there but June to December the water gets too green for a good snorkel. Last weekend we had a friendly Manatee swim up to our boat and say hi. Then drive up to Tarpon Springs and take the ferry out to Anclote Key for another great secluded beach! With your video I'm surprised how few boats were out at the sandbar. You are in my hometown. I fish all over that area. You do a great job covering everything but I know you can't cover it all so I am going to add a couple things if one of your subs plan on going.
There is a dog beach if you take a right at the flagpole. Look for the fence on the left there is also a dog park.
If you have a handicapped sticker you don't have to pay the 5 dollar entry fee.
Lastly on the right side of the road driving to the North beach there are a a few small areas to drive in and picnic. That is where you will see the dolphin and manatees. You do have to shimmy on the seawall to get in the water there but it isn't a large step.
Bring your bike we have a beautiful wide bike trail all the way thru the place. You can put on quite a few miles.
Do the speed limit. Very strict on that.

The best way to enjoy all the beaches of Florida is by taking about 2 months off in your own boat and go from Jacksonville around the entire state to Pensacola and camp out on the beaches about two days per beach.

As CTE said the pier is great fishing but You can go under the Skyway bridge also. They have turned the old bridge into 2 fishing areas. North side (St Petersburg side) and the other side (Tampa side) There is a small fee per person but you can stay for 24 hrs. On the Tampa side you will see a few campers that park for during the day. It is free fishing there. They don't let you camp overnight but I have night fished there before. They don't bother me at night because I am a fixture there. I commented to someone above how to avoid toll after the initial toll to go over bridge. Toll is 1.50. The bridge is a short driving distance from Fort DeSoto Campground. Good luck fishing..

Fort Desota North Beach and along the rest - was always a favorite but I can’t understand no swimming and water quality issues not to mention the alligators. We use to go there in 1960s and never had issues. It was one of the cleanest water beaches. But like Sanibel residential buildup has ruined natural areas in so many ways. And the corps of Engineers has done their part in bad decisions. But it’s still gorgeous to view. It’s look clean but something about bacteria levels, worse some times than others. That has to be anyone’s idea of a tropical get away. Luckily most people come in and end up stopping higher up on the beach area and many never get down this far unless they really realize where the treasure really is.

5.00 charge to go in unless you have a handicapped sticker then it is free. Yes there are sharks and sometimes Jellies but that is everywhere in Fla. The sharks are out in deep water. Needless to what you will hear there are very few shark attacks in Fla and that occurs mostly by Daytona Beach on the other coast. It is perfectly safe to be there alone. There are rangers everywhere. You will love it.

Hey David, thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it!! This one was just meant to highlight North Beach and my other videos on Fort DeSoto are my oldest ones when I started the channel, but my "Best campsite at Fort deSoto" video might help you see the waterfront sites there and thats my 30ft Class A in it, if that gives some perspective for you. I have camped there 4 times and the sites to my knowledge all have power and water, but no sewer hook-ups, however there is a dump station. They have some nice pull-through sites so I would think any RV would work there! Let us know if we can ever answer any specific questions, would be glad to help! Thanks for supporting the channel!

Well, thanks to your video, it will soon be run over by throngs of crowds just like our entire state. Everybody is moving here. They keep approving more and more development and our roads are gridlocked. We are quickly losing Florida to the millions that are moving down to get away from their expensive states. Florida cannot hold the majority of U.S. citizens living here full-time, much less the ever increasing flow of tourists. You have done us locals a disservice.
