Back in the day, you were the only real source of video boating information and the reason quite a few people got boats. It then became a bit more mainstream with videos from ex-journalists like "Cruising the Cut' and "Journey with Jono". Now, there are dozens of boating CZcams channels and people probably spend more time watching boating than they ever will participating. Thank you for the introduction to boating and all the best for your future.
I dont know if i was the only one who had a tear in my eye, when you were saying you were living the dream. I see life as one big journey. Full of chapters. Now you have Sam and Gizmo, you have them to consider too. But whatever you decide to do next, i'm looking forward to seeing.

Yes, it is incredible how quickly the time goes and yet as the years pass you don't really realise until you look back at something like this and think "how is that a decade ago?!"

Dan , I think you were a pioneer on CZcams with the narrowboat videos. Being from America, I was completely unaware of that lifestyle. I've said it before, that I thought it was the coolest way to live .

Your videos were the very first videos I watched when I first got a laptop. They were were so delightful and gave me such joy to watch. Loved your long walks in the country as I was able to see some of your beautiful country as I live near San Francisco, USA which also will never be the same. It was interesting to see your notes in the small booklets you used as a diary and I even ordered some of those. Thank you for all of your beautiful videos!!!
Nice reflection. It looked like you had the canals all to yourself back then. Has the number of boaters gone up?
It is difficult to say really, I imagine there must have been a steady increase with new boats joining the network. But the traffic ebbs and flows so much throughout the year. In hindsight though I feel like what I call quiet now is not as quiet as it was then!

I will never understand the CRT logic of getting rid of a winter mooring scheme that worked and was even looked forward to by most, and replacing it with one that no one wants or cares to pay for. And as time goes by it now seems that even those who have tried it once have long given up on the "new" scheme.
Yes, it is really odd. To think that I gladly paid them extra money each winter, in return for something that cost nothing… until they decided to make it so awkward and unappealing that they simply never got any extra money from me again!

For the muddy tow paths, could boaters club together and invest in the sharp sand underlayment and multiple squares of recycled plastic "paving?" A Canadian company with outlets in the UK-- I'm not sure if I can mention the name of company because of CZcams rules. Surely SOMETHING could be done about the annual mud.
