  • Mount Washington, called Agiocochook by some Native American tribes, is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288.2 ft and the most topographically prominent mountain east of the Mississippi River. The mountain is notorious for its erratic weather.
Terribly nerve wracking driving up. Wonderful and amazing at the top. All those who hike it have my respect. Not nearly as scary coming back down and I was expecting it to actually be worse. The issue going up is you can not see the edge drop offs over the edge of the fender of your vehicle.
A unique site anywhere in the world. I have done this in late winter/spring and summer. Both from the east and west side. Only once has it not been foggy. Winds are manageable in the spring/summer and are only extremely strong in a confined space. Only certain days in the fall/winter. Snow build up is minimal above treeline due to wind except north/east facing ravines where it is dangerously deep.
It’s beautiful in fall time. They allow eligible cars to mountain as its very peak. On return you get sticker for your car. “ I climbed my Washington” something like that. It’s cold on top . Must go place. First time drivers be cautious.
An excellent drive up to the top of the mountain for photographic opportunities, especially on clear days where you can see for miles and miles. It's also a great way to stretch your legs and chock-full of history.
