‘Dream Job’ Reality Check

- Dear ladies and gentlemen thank you for entering the description section of dream job reality check. It is here that you will learn a little bit more about the video that is probably playing above.
Some things that I would like to highlight is that if you love what you are doing that nothing is ever really like being at work. This doesn’t mean that life isn’t difficult maintaining a weekly upload schedule and sailing around the world. There have been arguments, squalls, pirate attacks, shark encounters, coconut attacks, post argument make up bliss and hours of sleeplessness. This is sometimes before breakfast.
I guess for me there were a few things that stick in my mind that might be the catalysts for this video. Early on when we had come across people in the Pacific, specifically Travis and Mark and Jose and Gina and they had mentioned getting into sailing because of some of our videos and how they maybe made it seem easier than it actually was. Also listening to my friends and family back home who were under the impression that we were just sailing around on holiday which just is not the case at all.
Sailing from A to B in your home in a foreign country with your “car” (tender) surrounded by salt water of varying levels of violence needs a certain level of attention most boats have a Captain and several crew. Filming this and making videos is another thing entirely and usually people on land have reliable internet and can order broken microphones online. We work crazy, ridiculous hours, there are only two of us but we love it. We hope you love the content we make. Thank you so much for following. Riley and Elayna 💛

Great video for those who are looking to follow in your footsteps and for those of us who are not sailors. I never understood how busy you guys are but now have an appreciation of what goes into keeping these Vlogs alive. Something else that I realized is that my Patron donation really does help you guys keep doing what your doing. Fantastic!
Lee Shand Well said! These kids need a lot more credit for what they give us! 💜
It certainly did not come across that you were complaining. It was just a great educational video that shows what goes into keeping these kind of Vlogs alive. I think you have done the CZcams community a huge favor in highlighting the amount of work you and those like you put in and that its not all a bed of roses. This one is up there in one of my favorite episodes! Cant wait for the next one.

I have read articles on how difficult it is to earn a living from making CZcams videos. Indeed, it is a lot of work. The end product must be compelling, and only those who can achieve that consistently can find some measure of success. Congrats to the both of you.
I've followed every vid, and I just see you two grow and grow and do well and even with the illnesses (jellyfish burns, ear infected w/sand crab) witness all the various problems faced and it is light heartedness of facing it all that keeps me watching! Thank you for your hard work! El, good that you took on the Riles and the making of the vids!!!! Be well and happy trails!
I know hard it is to make videos and all the time it takes, and that makes me appreciate these even more each week.
I stumbled across this channel a few months ago, got really addicted, and bing watched for a month. Once I got
close to caught up I slowed waaay down and started rationing them lol.
Now I only watch on my 60" flat screen because the sights you guys show us are just too precious to waste on a phone, iPad, or computer screen.
Wish you both the absolute best, fair winds, and safe travels. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
PS love the skits! Take those sponsors, you deserve it!
I was in the navy and, Riley, your attention to preventative maintenance is admirable. You are squared away, my man.
One of your best videos yet! I haven't seen all of them, I have watched many of the first ones and am impressed at how you've developed and progressed your production skills. I adore watching your affection for each other and you keep each other safe. Congratulations on your baby.
The value of things is not the time they last, but the intensity with which they occur. That is why there are unforgettable moments and unique people! - Pessoa -
Thank you both for sharing. Best wishes!
I can appreciate everything you mentioned. It's easy to watch your videos and think "you're living the dream" and you are, but I think a lot of people don't realize how much work goes into that dream. Things don't just happen, you have to make then happen and you both certainly do that.
Along the way, you've created a good channel with great content. I swear, I watch your videos and almost feel like you two are real, active characters in my own life. I feel like I know the both of you very well, and as you mentioned "being honest" with the camera and "showing the good along with the bad" is a big part of the reason why. You both do a great job. As a weekend boater, I envy what you're doing but understand the huge undertaking it is to accomplish everything. Just keeping a boat operational can itself be a maddening experience. I couldn't imagine living on one with no home base to return to at the end of a long week on the water. I don't know how you two live on a small boat (in this context, even a huge boat is small) without killing each other. It's tough living in those small, confined spaces with someone and having no where to go, literally being isolated on a boat together. Or maybe that's just the one element you don't show for the cameras. If so, it's understandable but it would be interesting to watch.
Good luck with everything and thank yoy for posting another great video.
We absolutely love your videos. My husband and I watch every single one that comes out and we've shared it with many of our friends. Thank you for all your hard work and Earnest efforts.
Thanks for all your hard work, you are my stress relief every week. You two are so genuine and I can’t express my thanks enough for sharing with us.
cheers to you both for putting in the time to share everything yalls are going thru.
sincerely, i appreciate it.
i cant even manage to keep at sharing on social media, can't imagine how emotionally and mentally taxing constant filming is.
We are so glad you are doing it! Thanks guys.
You two are an inspiration and a delight to watch. Thank you for putting it out there
Love you guys! Thanks for all those videos
Truly appreciate the work! Also completely amazed at how you both keep adding to your skill levels on both the sailing and the video/audio/editing/storytelling.....all while spending almost 24/7 with each other and still showing positive life and appreciation for each other. Thank you!!!!
Great video! Still living vicariously through your adventures! Safe travels and fair winds!
You guys are always improving, your videos are getting better and better. It’s nice and fun to witness the transformation. Thanks for the adventures and taking us along for the ride.
Guys, thank you so much for sharing! We’ve followed all your episodes and absolutely love them! We’re currently preparing for a circumanavigation ourselves and started with some videos. It’s unbelievable how much work goes into it. Amazed that you manage to upload such high quality videos every week with all the other stuff that’s going on. WOW.
Keep up the good work. Hope to see out at the ocean one day!
Years have gone by and one of your biggest achievements is to still keep it all so entertaining, new, fresh with a little fun and drama thrown in. I still drop pretty much anything I'm doing to stop and watch you guys....my regular dose of happy😄
Thousands of men and some women just kissed the monitor! This is my favorite Sailing Channel all because you too are so enjoyable to watch! I hope i get to spend an eternity watching you both and watching over both of you when the time comes! OX and God Bless you both for bring so much joy to the world!
Simply put; you guys are groovy flowers in a sea of madness.
You both rock!! Can only imagine what it takes to put great videos like yours out every week and be consistent with the quality every week👍👍, plus taking care of that size a boat ,this truly is your full time job and you both are great at what you do.
It’s so important how honest you guys are and how you don’t just sugarcoat sailing and making videos. It’s my absolute dream to sail the world and even though i know it’ll probably be unlikely that I’ll be able to do so, the fact that i know what exactly it is that i would be putting myself though is extremely comforting and valuable to me. Thank you so much Elayna and Riley. What you guys are doing is absolutely beautiful. I’m only 17 but my dreams to be with the ocean and nature are far beyond my age. One day, hopefully, i’ll be able to get my boat and maybe see you guys on the water!
Lmaooo Princess Leia Riley had me cracking up
Its good to tell it all. "If it was easy, then everyone would be doing it!" Just being a weekend warrior does not compare. Sailing and maintaining a somewhat normal life while on a boat is enough on any level but sharing your lives along the way with all of us is sheer madness. Bravo! Thank you for sharing and giving us all smiles.
Your videos are incredible! Creating CZcams content is a job in itself not to mention sailing around the world. So inspired!
I appreciate the work you do. Thank you!
Thank you, you have won me over.. I have watched your blog intermittently over the years. You have come a long way. I have aspirations to cruise also but I am tied to shore for a few more years. Videos like this are tremendously helpful due to their honesty and realism. I will meet you out there someday. My planning and learning stages will continue. I'll be glad to keep up with you in the meantime :) Cheers
You two inspire many if us. Thanks for another great vid and showing the extent of work behind your seemingly carefree partying lifestyle.
You guys make me smile every time I see you. Thanks for the reality check and for sharing your journey. Sail on!
Thnx for the effort of explaining all that goes into what you guys do! You're inspirational to watch! :)
All the best and good winds in your future!
I love you guys, your videos make me smile for all the right reasons. Keep up the great work.
I think it’s your sense of purpose that makes up the heart of your videos. What a special time we are in with technology that we can share in your beautiful journey. Blessings.
So I want to thank you both for your realistic and a real behind the scenes look at your life. Not being a sailor or a videographer I had no idea of the amount of work. Your videos do a great at masking this. You both deserve a grand round of applause.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for sharing guys, always inspiring to follow your journey from Puerto Rico since I came back into sailing recently... enjoying both the beautifully made lifestyle/sailing videos of your daily life and other stuff like this one, responsibilities/discipline you guys have or blogging recommendations etc.... keep them coming and safe travels around the Caribbean. Safe travels and good winds..!
I assumed, but had not idea the work you two do to create this content! A very grateful THANK YOU!
It's a pleasure to watch what you both are able to accomplish and a joy to share your adventures. I applaud you both in maintaining steady interpersonal dynamics in what can "sometimes" only be hectic circumstances involved in international water sailing.
Your videos are fun to watch. I don't plan on sailing but watching you do it I feel that I am part of the crew. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
My girlfriend and I are setting sail in 3 Years to the Caribbean as our first destination. We start travel nursing then. You both are a huge inspiration to us!
Three years watching you two and your still amazing!! Keep living the dream!!
Thanks to you two for sharing the reality of full time sailing PLUS the added work of making videos and getting them uploaded to all of us who love to see your adventures. You are both legends and I so love watching your adventures. Wind in your sails...Myrabelle
Thanks for sharing behind the scenes and all your hard work!!
As always you guys are awesome. Thanks for the journey.
I REALLY appreciate you two and what you do!!
I think you two did a nice job of giving a peak into what your week looks like in so far as daily routines. I enjoyed hearing both perspectives and thoughts on this life you have built for yourselves. Here's to you guys and hope you make this week even better than last week.
I agree with everyone else that when a new video comes out it's the high point of my day. I literally stop everything and I have to watch it. You guys are just the best!!! I really loved your long hair Elayna but the new do looks good also.
Donald Burton 9
I saw you two on Leblanc's show so I am in time Warp city. I like Elayna's haircut. I am looking forward to your ocean crossings and new adventures. Cherish each other because for many of us, what is the most special and the real dream, isn't the boat or the adventure but having something like you two have together. I mean, you could make a series about living in a mud hut in the Congo and I'd watch it! Cheers.
Thank you for the good video and the shared insights. Good to see Riley uses the harness at 09:30
Not that I haven't liked any of your videos, this one, however, is out of the park fantastic! Great content, great presentation, great edit, and the classic rapport we all adore. Cheers to you legends! Thanks for sharing your lives with us dreamers!
Casting the occasional "bad days" aside, you are two of the most positive people I've seen, and it's a pleasure to follow your adventures. Thank you!
Wonderful explanation of your weekly schedule. Enjoyed this.
Love the comment of ‘it would be unlucky rather than stupid’. We’re in the process of renovating our boat and renting, heading out of the UK this year, with v little experience sailing. You two have been a good part of that journey. Love the reality doses, tips and lust for life you have. You work in a great team formation, going to your natural skills and interests. And you have fun whilst your at it😀 Thanks for the inspiration x
I loved this video. You are champions!💕
You two are amazing! It has to be a crazy amount of work but so rewarding. I love your line about rather being unlucky than unprepared. I've always believed luck favors the prepared. I feel warmth in my heart watching your adventures :) F
Love the Video!!! I love watching your adventures and living life vicariously through you two. I recently found your channel and have been enamored with dreams of one day living as you two have been so fortunate to do. Looking forward to watching the videos you all post from my backyard when you make your trip to Florida. Safe travels mates!
I love what you guys are doing. Thank you for revealing a bit more of the "real life" whole aspect of the adventure.
love the new hair! awesome video! just keep sailing! 😋
I was literally hoping that someone would make a video like this the other day!!! Going to start a channel and these sorts of insider views are awesome...Love you guys’ channel....keep it up, be safe, and have fun...peace✌🏽
I love your videos so much, I’ve binge watched you guys this whole week and I’m starting a sailing course in the next couple months!
Excellent video!!! I am surprised after watching all of your video that you two have not figured out how to create a maintenance fairy and video fairy. Great job and keep the smiles and adventure.
So glad you guys enjoy and Love it! Because we love you guys! And enjoy your ongoing story.
Nicely done. You both seem like really nice people. Living the life
Keep killin it. Love you guys! Been on board since the beginning and really appreciate the look into a life I’d never get to experience otherwise - even tho I live in Ft Lauderdale, where there is no shortage of my own adventures.
Thanks for keeping it real, fun and interesting...you truly are special.
J.
So true, brings back memories. Thank you and stay safe
Great video guys. I love to hear about your ups and downs and what it takes to do what you do. It makes it so real for me!
Love!! We are about 1.5-2 yrs out from taking on the sailing journey and are very excited about it!! Keep those videos coming!
I friggin love you two. Thanks for breaking it down what goes on behind the scenes. Nice hair cut, Elayna :)
Short hair is really cute Elayna. I have followed you guys long enough to appreciate how hard you work to get these videos out and accomplish all you do. Thank you so much.
You guys are definitely inspiring, no doubts about that, and your vids are super awesome and high quality. Thumbs up, you might have actually changed my life and perspective on the "unreachable dream" inhibition so hopefully we might even bump into each other one random day in a random port. All the best, keep it up!
Well crafted video! I appreciate you sharing your weekly schedule explaining the process to which you are following and the discipline to stick to it. It's working well. Thanks for the last addition, explaining the responsibilities of the skipper. It would seem that most boats don't seem to have any sense that someone has to be responsible for the overall safety of the boat. I've been watching this channel since almost the beginning and have sensed that there have been low spots where you were probably close to throwing it in. There was the time when you put the original LV on the hard in Grenada and went home. I was surprised to see you continue. Good on you! I've seen a turnaround in you two since you've starting sailing the catamaran. You two appear more settled and focused in your actions. I hope nothing but the best for you two and wish you continuing success in your endeavors.
I figured there was A LOT of work doing what you're doing! Your videos make it look easy.
Cheers to you two and all the brave people who are living life Differently with enthusiasm!
really appreciate the "down to earth" vibe that you give off, I mean.... you guys are way cool, like wicked cool. and you're at sea most of the time... although, you still find time to record, edit, upload......eat, drink....and deal with the problems you get yourselves into, i'm surprised you haven't landed a TV deal yet, you guys are brilliant. mucho respect for the pair of you...kudos =]
Your both brilliant. We love you guys.
Nicely done and very informative. You guys exude happiness and it's contagious to the viewers. I love being one of the many.
You guys are so damn likeable it makes me sick. All jokes aside, thanks for the enjoyable vids, smiles and laughs. My favourite moment on any of your vids is when I see the two of you showing love for each other within the experience you are sharing. ps Riley, I went snorkelling off Port Noarlunga today. You would've had a field day with the salmon.
Everything you've already done is pure gold. You guys can quit anytime you want . You've already improved the world in a huge way! I love you guys and what you are doing, just don't let it kill ya!
Great reality info guys. Elayna, your hair cut looks very cute. Riley, your hair looks well like it usually does. You guys are the real legends.
Been watching for years now and you guys continue to innovate on the content you deliver. nicely done.
I have been working onboard boats in excess of 20 years now and not a week gos past when someone tells me I have the best job in the world, and as much as I totally agree with this statement it's hard to explain the reality of working and living on board without sounding like you're whining about it. You have nailed it with this video thanks guys loving your work.
Thanks for all your hard work! we love it!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love everything about yalls videos please keep it up. Y’all take me to new places it’s amazing
E/R:
It’s quite clear y’all are a great fit. Your style of fit is why y’all have made your adventures so interesting to so many. You’re a great example to all of mature diligence, living your dream. Please don’t change your approach. You’re a big hit just the way you’re doing it. Most of us are very envious!
Great video guys! I don't comment much, but have been watching since the early days. I don't know about making videos, but You're definitely inspiring me to learn how to sail. Cheers for living your Truth !
I've just found you guys and I already love you two!!! Can't wait for some more epic adventures!!!
You guys are awesome. Thanks for the great content and keep living the dream!
Love you two, authentic and real. ❤
You guys are awesome! Your job contributes to my life so much! Your videos give me a goal to strive for and window out of my college rat race. Thank you so much!
Thank you guys for that!! We are in the exciting and surreal process of buying our first sailboat right now and it is nice to have that slap in the face by reality, it is much appreciated. Much love guys!
Do what you enjoy most!
Most people cannot afford that, or THINK, that they cannot afford, because they are more in consuming all that stuff what you actually do not need...
But of course everything you do is also a kind of work. The more you like the work, the more it feels not like work.
Thx for all that insight you provide from the living on sea. It is so incredible!
.
You young folks are such a delight to watch. I would adopt you as my grandkids at the drop of a hat. Fair winds and sail on.
first time Commenter,Great Video guys its great to know how it all comes togeather,i will definatly be out there one day living the dream,Happy Days
I'm so glad you made this video. You guys do a pretty good job of presenting your real experience but it is only natural that there are bad times and it's also natural that we don't see them because the first priority has to be taking care of the crisis not getting out the video camera. This video does a great job of explaining just how much work it is to both sail and make videos. I live in Michigan and have a lot of friend with boats who only get to use them 3months out of the year. All prep and maintenance you do is not unlike what the weekend boaters have to do. I think doing this year round could be a lot of fun but I can see it not all fun but overcoming the challenges must give a great sense of accomplishment and what makes the good times even more fun. You guys are inspiring how you work so well together. Do you ever think about selling the boat and settling in one place and raising a family? That will give you a great ensue of accomplishment too! Happy sailing!
Love it. Great insight into what goes on when the cameras are off.
This is another great insight into the life Riley & Elayna have chosen. Such an inspiration! Take care you guys!!
Love you guys! Have been following you far before Lenny, far before bags on Riley or Elena. I love your channel and look forward to every video you make!
I love your videos so much, I am watching them all over once more. Cheers!
Great video. I've done some video making of our family sailing and mucking about by the water, although I love the result, it takes me months for one 15min video and there's a heck of a lot of procrastination. Totally appreciate your discipline.
Great advice and tips! Thank you so much for that. I am working on my first CZcams episode (An artist's journey you could say), should be ready next week. It's one hell of a learning curve getting the hang of Premiere Pro or just even standing in front of a camera. I'm loving every minute of it though. I hope I have half the success you guys have achieved, it's through hard work I know. Anyway, thanks a bunch, you two really inspire.
You guys inspire us a lot!!!
You have come so far from the first couple videos. Keep up the good work.
Brilliant! Telling the tale of truth is not always fun but it sure gives perspective to all that doesn’t realise how much work you spend on e.g. editing and maintenance. 👍🏽
Man you guys work hard! Thank you!
