- Installation instructions for the RHOX 6" Lift Kit (LIFT-002) on a Yamaha G16. The same lift kit works on Yamaha models G14-G20 (95-02); however, some steps may vary. Some lifted gas carts may require a longer choke cable (CBL-052). See your RHOX dealer for details.

Just installed this kit today with 23” wheels. Wow, what a day and night difference it made in the appearance and ability of our G16 Yamaha cart! Good video and product, thanks 👍.
Thank you! We're glad it worked out for you!
Is your steering stiff? Mine got so stiff
@@ryangarrett6204 I would take a look at the rest of the steering components on the cart to see if anything is worn (i.e. shocks, steering rack etc.). Make sure the steering rack is centered so you have equal play on both sides. Also, confirm the toe and camber settings are correct and the cart levels out when a load is applied (passengers or cargo).
Great video and to the point. Wonderful job and thanks for the help sir
Thanks!
Pretty much a perfect video. Starting my lift this weekend! Thanks
Thanks! Good luck with the install. Let us know if you have any questions.
This video takes all the guess work out thanks great job
Thanks!
I appreciate the video. I have the exact same golf cart that I got for $600 locally. Cart had been sitting for some time. Brought it home, cleaned it up some. Took a grinder to the frame and painted it with some POR-15. My brother-in-law sells batteries for a living so he hooked me up with some new batteries. Noticed I have some vibrations and after watching your video, realized that the king pins are slam wore out. So I will order a kit to get them squared away and also pick up this lift kit. I'll have a really nice cart when all is said and done for less than half of what most folks have in theirs. If you happen to see this comment, I'd like to know what wheel/tire combo you have, they look great. Thanks again.
That's a great deal! The wheels are TIR-RX281-B. If you search for TIR-RX281 on our website, you can see the other color options. The tires are TIR-384.

@@GolfCartInstructions I just got the lift kit installed this past week and my wheels came yesterday. The rear is higher than the front by a few inches, it appears. I don't have a rear seat on my cart and even with me (235 lbs) and my daughter (130 lbs), it's not going down much. I don't like the idea of cutting the rear bracket down. Would I be able to replace the rear shocks with shorter ones to get the rear down? With my cart being a 96, I don't see these shocks settling much more than they are now. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the lift. Thanks
Please add in the video description the use of the hardware included. Bolts/Washers, etc.
Would have been cool to see a final pic of the cart once the kit was installed. Thanks for the video though. Helpful!
Thanks Chris. We are working on doing that for future videos.
I’m having one heckuva time, putting on the rear section of this lift kit. Do I need to buy shorter shock absorbers for the rear end?
Great product and a great video.
I am rehabbing / modding an old 2001 G19e.
Question for you - how much do I tighten the bolts? I have a torque bar and was looking for a torque rating, but did not see anything.
We normally recommend the following torque specifications for the included hardware (you may not have all of these sizes in this specific kit). Any reused hardware should follow the torque specifications in the manual.
M6: 6 ft. lbs.
M8: 22 ft. lbs.
M10: 38.25 ft. lbs.
M12: 69 ft. lbs.
Thanks for the video! Made it much easier then the direction did. Don't care for the $55 price tag on the longer choke cable, any links to a lower priced one? Thanks Again!
Thanks for the feedback TB! You would have to check with your dealer for different pricing or call around to various dealers. We are only set up to sell to our network of dealers.
Please update instructions regarding small adapter included for g14 sway bar bracket. I couldn’t find anything about it anywhere in video, website or instructions. Took some head scratching to figure out how to mount it. Needs a new hole in frame
Thanks. It's on our list to update.
Great video. I purchased this lift probably 2 years ago, the instructions and quality was great. One thing that has always bothered me is the front seems to look lower than the back for some reason. Is there something I did wrong? Thank you
You did not do anything wrong. We designed this kit for worn suspension parts because that was a majority of what we saw in the field but there is an easy fix. Can you send me your email address via our contact us page so I can send you more information?
rhox.us/contact_us.asp
where can i get the choke cable cbl-052 ? doing a google search turns up nothing, i need a new one so i might as well get a longer one, do you know how much longer this one is ? thanks dave
The CBL-052 is 21" long. It can be purchased through any RHOX dealer. If you email us your contact information I can reply with some local or online dealers for you. You can contact us at rugged@rhox.us .
Great video bud. I'm gonna order your kit. Do u need new springs and shocks?I just bought a used Yamaha g16a. Thanks again for the awesome video
It really depends on the condition of your current springs and shocks. Normally carts that old will need replacements but they could have been changed before you picked up the cart. If you think the rear is sagging when under load (with passengers or cargo) you could replace them. This lift kit is designed with worn components in mind too so it will sit slighter higher in the rear to accommodate for the sag. On some carts, it will sit higher when under load so they will cut down the rear lift bracket by about an inch.
ok so when i did this with one hand it wasn't just me that had issues getting the drop a-arms to fit. because i only have use of one hand what i did was hook a ratchet strap to the frame ran the strap through the A-arm and to the back of the frame and just went to town ratcheting and it pulled it open enough to pop in place. I just figured I bent my frame, which I guess didn't help my installation on top of working with one hand
for the back since i have an 02 G16 and was doing a full rebuild anyway, I took the body of the benefits of that is no need to squeeze in the tight area to get to the stock shock bolts and when i did the swaybar bracket the hole in the body wasnt an issue because i just put the body on top of the bolthead one less bolt to have to take off when i take the body off going forwards
A one handed install is impressive. I"m glad you got it installed.
@@GolfCartInstructions watching this for the third time because i noticed the rear end is off LR is a half-inch further forwards than the right and finding parts apparently i forgot the small swaybar drop bracket but have been driving for over a year might explain the whine at or above 30 KM/h
@@MCscarfacematt The drop bracket will help align the rear. Yamahas don't have a true solid frame like most other carts. The connecting rod helps keep the two sides of the 'frame' parallel for lack of a better word. When the cart gets lifted, the geometry of the rear shifts. That triangular bracket will put the geometry back to where it should be.
Hi! We installed the Lift-002 to our 1998 Yamaha golf cart G16. It seems our rear axel has shifted do you know what could cause this?
It could be a number of things with the cart. The shocks/springs could be worn. A brake cable could be too tight.
Just did the Lift-002 on a G16. Why is the back end almost 3" higher than the front? The front end is positive or negative camber. This is moving from the suggested 3rd to the forth hole.
It is higher in the rear to compensate for worn suspensions. This can level out when a load is applied to the golf cart. If it is still an issue, users will trim the square tubing on the u-bracket. You will want slightly positive camber when you are finished aligning the cart. Older carts tend to have more of a negative camber setting from the factory. Other worn suspension parts or bent frames can also play into this as well. You will have to play with the settings and use which is best for your cart.
I have a Yamaha 2000-- G19.----I see a small black flat metal piece with two holes that you said goes with the rear install but I don't ever see you say anything about where it goes on your video , can you tell me where it goes, thanks , update I found the answer below in some of your replies,, great video ,,,
If it is the small D-shaped piece, that goes with the G14 carts only. You won't need it with the G19.
Would 1 1/2 spacers give it more of a aggressive look, with the 14" wheel set up. Thanks
The stance would be personal preference. I would think the tread would make it look more or less aggressive than anything. Buy either is personal preference :)
We have a 1998 Yamaha golf cart G16. Installing lift-002. Where does small flat plate round on one end with holes go? Also what happens if the U-bracket is put in backwards and/or not slanted forward?
If it is the small D-shaped piece you are talking about, that is only used on a G14 so you will not need it on your cart.
In general, if a U-bracket is put on backwards it will not be at the correct angle thus throwing off the shocks etc. If there is no angle to a U-bracket, it cannot be put on backwards.
I have a gas cart and live in a hilly area. It seems that the engine is tilted so much with the 6' lift that if the crankcase is completely full of oil, then oil seems to get sucked up into the air box, then engine starts smoking while running, and losing power.
It sounds like something else is going on with the cart. Could there be too much oil in it?
Installed this kit a year ago and the gasket in the steering link A arm already failed and fell out.
Can you contact us through rhox.com and send us photos of the gasket you are referring to? This kit only replaces the A-Arms and not any other steering components.
I just installed this lift and now my drive belt is loose? Does a different size drive belt need to be installed? Thanks
The lift kit wouldn't affect the belt. Could you have bumped something during the install? Maybe adjusted the tension by accident?
Dan , I bought a Yamaha 48v cart how do I determine the model # so I can order the correct lift kit ?
You will want to locate the serial number of the cart to determine the year and model. You can google where to find the Yamaha serial number on your cart as locations can vary.
Thanks for the reply !!! Another question .with this cart the batteries were at a very low voltage as well as the water , so I filled the batteries with distilled water and forced a charge , 10 amp at 12vdc for 30 min per bat , the battery charger now will change the cart ,after two days the cart finally has a full charge but now the batteries are over filled ? Where should the fill line be ? I will get a turkey blaster to pull some of the fluid out , is there a measurement for the amount of acid to water ratio ?
@@petarsasic2834 I would recommend contacting a golf cart dealer, your service manual or battery store as they will be the best to advise you.
i have a 98 G19 and trying to put on the rear u bracket, got it in but the shocks wont mount up, it looks like the rear end is way too low and the shocks are off set and wont go into the bracket? do i have the wrong part?
Make sure the u-bracket is not upside down.
Please specify what upside down is. I did measurements on the U bracket both visually and using a level and it looks symmetrical. I tried flipping it on mine and get the same results too, not lining up. Is it possible I have a defective part?
I need to know how to change a valve in a 2011yamaha golf cart I think it is a G 16.
We would suggest taking the cart to an authorized dealer. If you wish to do it yourself, the service manual will be a good place to start. What is your cart's serial number? We can help you determine what model it is.
Where in the heck does that piece of steel with the 2 holes go? It’s square on one end and rounded on the other. It’s apart of the sway bar bracket.
I know I answered you via email, but for other users, the small piece that looks like a “D” is only used on the G14 to mount the connecting rod bracket.
RHOX Garage
Leave it to the G-14 to be different lol
That’s what I bought.
I’m installing this on a 1991 G8. The front a arms are very tight and I can’t squeeze them in... any tips?
I'll help you out via email.
@@GolfCartInstructions I need the same help. I have a 2001 G19 electric and I can't squeeze them in either. What is the trick?
@@MaxAcceleration What portion are you having trouble with? Installing the arms onto the cart or installing the shocks or spindles to the arms?
@@GolfCartInstructions It was the arms, I finally was able to finagle them into place. I do have one other important question. The instructions say the U-Bracket "ears" should face "slightly forward". That suggest to me there is a right and wrong way to install it (ie... it could be flipped). I can't tell the difference when looking at it and don't know if I did it correct. I saw one of your competitors "Jakes lift kit" put a "J" stamped onto one side so you can tell. Are the Rhox marked or how can I tell. They look the same to me, no matter which way I flip it. Helppppp! Thanks, Jamie
@@MaxAcceleration If you didn't see my email, you can just cut down the rear u-bracket and relocate the mounting holes. This will lower the rear some. The email has a picture along with your other hardware questions.
Could you tell us what size tires and rims you had on there pls?
The rims are 14x7, ET-25 (part number TIR-RX281-B). The tires are 23x10R14 (TIR-385).
@@GolfCartInstructions can I ask a question on another topic, will you be doing a how to speed up your G 16 E golf cart video anytime soon lol. I’m trying to figure out how to do mine without spending an arm and a leg.
@@mikebowers5598 I doubt we will be shooting a video for that anytime soon. In general depending on the size of the battery pack, 36V carts will not get great speeds, not matter what you do. It's best to have a 48V cart. With a 48V system, people will get more speeds and if they want to spend more, they will upgrade their controllers at the for more amps. Some will pair it with a new/upgraded motor as well. With a lot of the upgraded controllers, you can adjust the settings. I would look at our CON-SR_ _ _ series controllers on golfcart.com. They range from 300A to 600A.
What about the small sway bar bracket? Just toss it in the trash?
If you're talking about the small D-shaped piece, that is only used with the G14 sway bar brackets.
Nice vid, but one thing bothered me. You kept referring to the rear sway bar. That's not a sway bar, it's a Panhard rod, also commonly called a track bar. A sway bar is torsion bar that opposes body roll. A Panhard rod prevents the axle from moving laterally during cornering. Small detail, but....
Thanks for the feedback. In our instructions we call it a connecting rod because that is what Yamaha refers to it in their manuals. People seem to have many names for it in the field :)
what size of wheels and tires are on it?
I'm pretty sure it is a 14x7 ET-25 wheel (TIR-RX281-B) with a 23" tire (TIR-385).
video made the installation easy, thanks......the instructions that came with it sucked.
Thank you for the feedback.
It comes with 2 rear sway bar brackets but on the video you only use the big one. Where does the small one go...2000 g16
If you're talking about the smaller, D shaped piece, that is only used in G14s.
@@GolfCartInstructions yes the smaller one. Ok cool thank you. One more question. The video doesnt say anything about how to put the rear u bar in besides thst the welded loops go down but the written instructions (that I was reading after the instal) say to put it slightly leaning towards the front of the cart...is there a right way to put it in or as long as the welded ears are on the bottom I'm good to go?
@@GolfCartInstructions and thank you for the video. The reason I went with you guys was because the video was nice and detailed made the install pretty simple
@@98integra87 You want to orient it so the upper portion leans towards the front of the cart.
@@GolfCartInstructions so looks like I gotta pull it out and make sure. I think its leaning the other way....thank you.
I have a negative camber now. My tires look like this / \ Any fix for that?
You could try looking at the other suspension components. When they are worn or out of alignment themselves, it can lead to the camber being out of alignment. A lot of earlier Yamaha models tend to have more of a negative camber / \ out of factory while the newer models will have more of a positive setting \ /. Lifting the cart will make the existing camber more prominent.
If you're still looking for a location for the D shaped piece on a G14, shoot an emaill to rugged@rhox.us and I can email you back with a drawing. I don't have the capability of posting a photo on here.
Redo video and show and identify hardware!!!
Great video.. Good thing cause the instructions that come with the kit are a joke.
Thanks Jimmy. We are in the process of updating all of our instructions. They will look a lot better in the future.
Where can I order just the steering rack spacers? I bought a golf cart recently and it has this exact lift but doesn’t have the spacers 🤷♂️
We do not sell them separately but if you contact your RHOX dealer, they may be able to get them from our customer service department.
