  • This is a subject I wanted to touch on. I've watched too many CZcamsrs complain about having a smaller channel. Whatever that may be considered in your book. I wanted to break down the positives.

    Great to see your growth in mindset. I remember you being so concerned about views and subs. Glad to see you're grateful for what you have and see the positives in that. You can't keep a good thing a secret for a long time growth will come.

      Its funny Hakeem. You have always keep it real about your views/perspective and opinions. Definitely the growth has happened. When you reach a certain age. There are things in life you give less fucks about honestly. I was writing some ideas for the channel and thought to myself I am grateful to have this platform. Thanks for dropping in.

    Small channels ftw! Community is a huge part of it for me. The freedom is great too, I never feel obligated to do one thing or another and I know for a fact large channels have a lot less of that - especially the ones who are monitized. Great topic!

    • @GameFreak4Ever
      @GameFreak4Ever  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! Yeah we need to appreciate having a platform to go to and talk about things.

    Great points! The best part of being a small channel is the interaction with viewers and other fellow small CZcams video producers. Channels with large subscriber counts are often forced to cover mainstream topics and games to maximize their view counts. There a are few retro gaming channels that buck this trend and are successful. I much prefer to watch videos on obscure topics and games. I am of the mindset of watching something that is different from the rest of the pack. I do the same when it comes to the videos I produce.

      Interaction is key. I've watched your LIVE stream and its cool to get that immediate response. Yeah I try to take in as much content as possible.

    Been following this channel for a good while now. Really like your approach to CZcams and to making videos. My own experience with CZcams has definitely been that there are a lot of benefits to having a smaller channel. Hope you're staying safe, and hope to see more great content :)

    This was a cool video man. You hit the nail on the head. Especially about having the FREEDOM, I can't tell you how many CZcamsrs I know that don't have that freedom anymore 🙏 Good video man 💯

    My channel is a bit over 2.5k, and that has taken since 2014. My biggest video is around 30k with a couple others over 10k. Most of them don't get anywhere near that much though. But the benefits you described are spot on. I really think it comes down to us little guys not wanting to make a job out of this. When you make your passion into a job, it loses some of it's luster. I'm lucky to get 2-3 videos out a year (not including the podcast). I think consistency is key to growth in YT, but it's just not possible for a lot of us. But like you said, that's a bonus! We don't have to worry about releasing a video every week, or every other day or every day. Some of these gaming YT personalities are freaking machines! I don't know how they do it and continue to enjoy gaming...
    Anyway, great video, great topic. I love your positivity man, keep it up!

      Yeah I remember one year I dropped close to a 100 videos trying to chase the carrot. At the end I was burnt, mad and frustrated. When this platform is not going anywhere and I'll still get the support regardless. The big youtubers start getting smart. I learned to shoot more than one video in a day. Saved time. They gave editors and many other things but still I've seen the greatest youtubers still crack under all this and need a major break. Same emotions basically but on a much bigger scale.

    Community for sure. I’m happy with my little channel, I have a bunch of regulars show up and I call them all friends.
    I take pride in my little channel. Would I like more subs? Sure. Does it hurt my feelings that I haven’t hit a thousand yet?.... no comment lol jk
    Some big channels are nice enough to share love, but for the most part we don’t exist lol.(although there are some like HappyConsoleGamer who come by and share said love)
    The only thing that does hurt , a little, is thumbs down. Because it feels more personal. But other than that, I’m chilling :)
    Great video sir. I enjoyed it a lot , great points all over

    • @GameFreak4Ever
      @GameFreak4Ever  Před 4 lety +1

      The familiar faces over the years of people that I have grown to respect through the community is beyond. I use to get hung up in the sub count chasing after it. Its a pull and tug situation. HCG is one of the most stand up guys.
      I realize with the thumbs down some people missed the point or they are not regulars that watch your content. Either way keep pushing and putting out the content.

      Aye, dcrediah... you shouldn’t feel any type of way about 👎🏿. Esp. when the downers don’t elaborate on why they disapproved. Also, as long as the downers are far less than the 👍🏿.
      Then your obviously on the right path.
      Personally, iThink thumbs down comes from disgruntled Viewers. Ppl that feel slighted by the person they’re viewing. Rather than that, silent thumbs down should be disregarded.

    I prefer the smaller channels because they are real people sharing their hobbies, rather than some of the bigger channels which can become a bit contrived because they are a business

    For me I enjoyed the process of getting the content out. Even when I left CZcams for another site because companies started monetizing my videos on their behalf (usually because game-play I was showing has the music from the game playing) I enjoyed putting the content out even though the audience was even smaller. Then I stopped because I didn't feel the same desire to put the content out. I'm slowly putting a few videos out on CZcams again though since that other site became less appealing, and I'm planning on getting a couple out this month, so we'll see if that desire comes back.

    • @GameFreak4Ever
      @GameFreak4Ever  Před 4 lety +1

      To me its funny when other companies try to monetize my content. Simply due to the fact I used a clip or a song clip. I'm like,"You not getting much money from me." lol I know I need my breaks from all of the youtube stuff every now and then. It can get you fired up and still your thunder all at the same time. I am in this for the long run. Many I'll worry about the views later, put out the content when I want and enjoy the ride. Trust you got some gems in the vids you put out. I always like hearing people's reviews. Yours are very insightful.

    I appreciate topical videos like this one, and may conceptualize a video response in some form or fashion.
    I presume you interpolate "big" channel as "doing it professionally" as a career or sorts and "small" as "doing it as a hobby" without the means to make it a profession of any sort. I see big channels break several of the molds you boast small channels of having, including the idea of being a part of a "community" or "having freedom to make the content you want." (I went into detail on the second point but edited it out of the comment)
    Being small is not without its benefits, but nor is making it and regardless of how good you or I may have it, we should always strive to make our content better while streamlining the content with the channel.

    • @DeadThumbGamer
      @DeadThumbGamer Před 3 lety +1

      There’s no such thing as a small channel in reality. That’s like saying small tv network. Ok, there are or were, public access channels. However, those are generally local & have low support & viewership. Which means, people aren’t tuning in. To be considered a channel, said entity has to have a notable following or interest.

    • @GameFreak4Ever
      @GameFreak4Ever  Před 3 lety +1

      If you do a video then let me know. I will watch it. Small for me really comes from the number of subscribers. Trust their are channels who are small in numbers that put out phenomenal work. They take the time to edit properly, come up with scripts, use excellent lighting and visual effects. Some channels don't take off in the numbers and it happens.

    • @GameFreak4Ever
      @GameFreak4Ever  Před 3 lety +1

      You make a good point IQ. Regardless of where my channel is at size wise. People tend to light up when they hear I have a CZcams channel. People are like, "Isn't it hard to get in front of a camera and talk about things?" lol

    • @DeadThumbGamer
      @DeadThumbGamer Před 3 lety

      LifeSpiller79 The Numbers Game is an interesting one & ppl’s expectations have changed over time (concerning “quality” of content). Maybe our definitions of quality differ.
      In my Tuberverse experience. I’ve witnessed, what I term phenom channels: those w/comparatively low sub to view count ratios. Small Channel, as a term is suggested or used in a similar fashion to “Community”. A buzzword used to express inclusivity.
      Your experience in rather unique LifeSpiller. As you maybe truly connected. However, there are a multitude of small/smaller channels that would suggest the contrary (as it pertains to their channels).
      This is why I say there are no small channels. When in fact there are. The point is who’s watching them? Who are they? Are their voices heard & shared? I can go in or on with the subject.
      In closing, I offer this. What you or I consider small. Doesn’t even register! I heard someone say 65-100K is Small 🤔 So what’s 1,000 or less 🤦🏿‍♂️
      Big Ups to Majora T “Under 1000 & Counting” ...A Hero of Time 🔥

    • @Majora_T
      @Majora_T Před 3 lety

      Small is really subjective, but I think everyone who’s under 1,000 can’t perceive it any other way. I do have a bit to say on the matter, I want to ruminate on it for a bit though.
      I don’t doubt small channels putting in the work with what they have, but several of your points from the video are not exclusive to being small either.

  • @DeadThumbGamer
    @DeadThumbGamer Před 4 lety +2

    Small Channel as a term reflects the disparity of what many call Community. View counts reflect clicks, not real actual views. You’re not as visible as you’ve implied.
    Benefits *of (or)being “small”
    - closer connections w/core or actual audience
    - reduced potential of being harassed or trolled
    - upload schedule is less demanding.
    iSee, get & respect what you’re attempting here. However, smiling & such doesn’t make it so. The Community is not really a Community. Rather a collection of cliques & some interlocking circles at varying degrees.

    • @GameFreak4Ever
      @GameFreak4Ever  Před 4 lety

      Personally in Texas we do it different. When I say community it means that for me. I meet other gamers/youtubers at conventions or even our local retro stores. Your opinion about the word community is that of its own. The community is of shared interest or characteristic. It doesn't have to be this large embodiment of people. I can almost instantly tell me someone new is commenting on my channel because I try to build a relationship with that person.
      While being on this platform I have gone through my ups and downs of experiences. I have been open and honest about a lot of things. For you to use the word smile in a manner like I am a car sales man sounds cheap and fake. Which I am not.
      Anytime I am smiling its from a very authentic place and it means I am happy to talk about the subject. I said numerous times that I wanted to come from a positive place. I did this video due to all the complaints I heard over the years and I know I was one of the contributors in the past. I realize this is my platform and not everything is going to be agreed on. I am okay with that. I have always said people's opinions are welcomed on this channel.

      LifeSpiller79 Bro you be bug’n! I’ve only shared my opinions based on experiences. I don’t hold any credits for defining words or publications of any dictionaries. Don’t be so * quick (guck) to find offense. Just because a person doesn’t share the same or similar opinions as you.
      Your experiences are yours, as mine are my own. Let’s do better, in Respecting differences as well as similarities. All the other hoopla, is just that (to me).

      Trust. I'm good. I don't look for people to agree with me. That doesn't help the channel grow. That's why sometimes I get the horn with people and actually talk with them. The message doesn't always come out clear over text or social media.
      If anything I am looking to understand from other people perspectives. I know with this channel. I have a choice with what happens hear.

      A lot of people of hurting right now, including myself. Living in Texas you still face direct and indirect racism. I've been pulled over on at least four occasions for no reason. (harassed, questioned etc) I'm just hoping for change.
      Just know I respect your opinions. Just as much as your content.
