I know that I personally get extremely anxious while being on my cell phone, because I'm completely aware that I need to put my phone down, and play with my 4 year old little girl.

Been a creative professional for over ten years and I’m currently trying to break out of that on my own. I’m at the point where I can’t do it anymore. I can’t sit in front of a computer screen for 10 hours a day. I sold a bunch of stuff and invested in a whole video and photo shooting setup and I’ve been going out and doing it. My career requires having a phone nearby regularly, but I’ve eliminated all the apps that take my time away from me and only have the apps that I use to get things done.

Haven't had notifications on for years now outside of very essential stuff (probably biggest game changer ever) but definitely agree with all this. The more apps you delete the more your phone just becomes a useful tool when needed again rather than a "fill every waking second with nonsense" problem...and that same "minimalist/essentialist" mindset works IRL as well. Clean out that closet, clean up your desk, clean up your unneeded furniture and aesthetics, keep only what you care most about and motivates you in some way and your life becomes 10x better. Even the simplest stuff we've taken for granted a long time becomes extremely relevant and enjoyable again too...no endless chaotic thoughts clogging up your brain anymore:)

Kind of a paradox here, well done bringing it up. Reminds of old campaigns against TV remotes (the old form of doom scrolling). There used to be an exercise of staring at a turned off TV for a few minutes to realize how much time is being lost. As long as YT is included as social media, this means to consume less from you as well. But I guess the "scrolling effect" brought you a great deal of your 5.8M subs and much of your (well deserved) paid work, isn´t that correct? More "creating" (over the digital platforms) would demand more consumption.

I downloaded it on my mac and airdropped it to my phone but you should be able to view it from the files app and save it there. The only thing he has at the bottom of the screen is a folder that apple automatically makes when you put two apps on top of each other.

Yea but how do you keep the app folder at the bottom?

@@digitaljoyclubstudio Just make a folder by combining two apps and drag it there. It'll sit right in the middle like his.

I did it on my phone. Download the zip file. Open it. Then open the wallpaper image you want to use. Tap the share icon and save the image (mine then went into the camera roll). Then you can pull it in as a new wallpaper.

This home screen look reminds me of the Samsung Android home screen look. I switched to iPhone just 2 years ago, and since I began using it I noticed how chaotic the overall look was. On Android, you had the menu, which wasn't directly on the home screen, you had to open it, so you could customize your home screen. I usually set a blank page as the home screen and then created other pages with my most used apps, and that was it. If I needed other apps I had to go to the menu, which was another section.
I don't know if it is still like that, but since I switched felt the urgency to have a more minimal look, but I didn't know how. So thank you Peter!

The only step needed is to remove ALL social media apps from the phone. That ONE step will end doom scrolling. The phone isn't the problem, social media is the problem.

If you like reading, Nick Spalding wrote a book called "Logging Off" and it is all about the toxic addiction we now have to the digital world. I'm almost a year without facebook or Instagram on my phone and I still have the phantom movements to pick up my phone to doom scroll. It's quite freeing! Going to a gig and you just see a crowd of phones, all filming it for future watching but not enjoying the moment!
