    This is GM Huang's form. It is the short form, very similar to Cheng Man Ching's form with whom he trained and became an 'internal disciple'. Huang included deeper teachings to his students that include the 5 Relaxation exercises. This gives a very much deeper flow of Qi and rooting in the form, important both for health improvement and Martial arts. As others have noticed, he omitted the section with the first Snake Creeps down, going straight into Fair Lady weaves the Shuttles. His pushing hands videos online show how potent this man's practice was. The root of his opponents often just collapsed, often falling straight down. I have never seen that with any other Taiji Master. Very different to the normal Fajing where students fly across the room, although there are many instances of him doing that too.

    Professor Cheng would probably say THAT'S NOT MY WAY

    complete relaxation of the whole body right from top to the bottom, concentration, smooth flow of energy follow the change of form. maintain low gravity and pivot turn of the body with the form. these are the key words for the Tal-ji chuan.

    looks quite diferent from the Yang form, but obviously just as efficient.
    im getting to the conclusion that the style does not matter, what matters is serious and regular training. stability in the attitude of training over the years.

    This is a short form, although it's missing the downward single whip (snake creeps down), golden pheasant stands on one leg R/L, separate leg R/L, turn and left heel kick, brush knee L/R, downward punch. He seems to have skipped that sequence at 05:40 and gone directly to Fair Lady Weaves Shuttles.
    There is a great change of pace at the end; demonstrating total relaxation, fluidity and internal power throughout the form. It may look different to the Cheng Man Ch'ing way of performing the movements, but there are many similarities too. Tai Chi is always evolving and each grand master, master and advanced student/practitioner will eventually bring their own nuances to their particular form practice. Obviously, it's advisable to stick closely to what you are taught for many years before you can get to this point of developing variations.

      Yes, I noticed that, and watched it again to make sure I hadn't missed it!

    Yes, it is. It follows the traditional list of techniques for the Yang long form. It is common for wide variation of direction and execution from lineage to lineage, which is not surprising considering how Tai chi is traditionally passed down.

      @MotionMechanic, I agree completely with the second part of your comment regarding variations. However, I do believe this is a Yang Style Short Form. My reasons for saying this are:
      1. It is short in time duration, the Long Form would typically take about 20 mins to perform at this pace, without the incorporation of the faster movements and transitions, (as seen towards the end), which he probably speeded up to show contrast or the video tape was running out - often happened with these old recordings of GMs)
      2. It doesn't have all the repetitions nor the additional movements of the traditional Long Form of 85/103/108/115/150 steps (depending on how the movements are counted)
      Although it is a Short Form, compared to the one I learned, the CMC simplified Short Form, it's missing the downward single whip (snake creeps down), golden pheasant stands on one leg R/L, separate leg R/L, turn and left heel kick, brush knee L/R, brush left knee and downward punch, grasp sparrows tail (3rd one), single whip (4th one)
      He seems to have skipped that sequence at 05:40 and gone directly to Fair Lady Weaves Shuttles after the 3rd single whip. That said, both are a short/simplified Yang Style Form.
      3. The sequence of brush knee twist step and playing the lute (pipa) shown here is not the Long Form version as someone else has pointed out in the comments.
      Anyway, all of our comments here pale into insignificance before such accomplished masters of Tai Chi. It is good to share and learn from eachother.

    IT'S THE SHORT FORM NOT THE LONG FORM

  • @BudoMan49
    @BudoMan49 Před 10 lety +1

    @MotionMechanic
    It is NOT Yang long form (though Huang did teach long form in early days). Missing long form techniques are:
    No left-hand brush knee in 1st section,
    Only 3 step-back-repulse monkey pairs (long form has 5),
    Only 3 wave-hands pairs (long form has 5)
    and the list goes on...
    There is not 'wide variation' in Yang long forms. The postures may differ a bit, but the sequence of techniques in the 108 form is pretty standard.
    Go back to sleep MM, you know nothing of Tai Chi.
    An inaccurate title. Better to have said "full" CMC form (37 postures) or similar.

    This is not the long form.
