Thanks! I hope they'll make it... a few are definitely still alive, but I'm hoping the warm weather moving in this week will encourage them all to come back.

Bench grinders are evil. I always step to the side when turning it on in case a stone had cracked since the last time it was used. Unless a blade has significant damage I use a hand file. If it needs more than that I feel much more comfortable with an 80 grit flap disk on the hand grinder. You have to be careful not to heat the blade too much - if it changes color the properties of the metal will be altered. Too sharp and the blade edge will just roll over after the first mow. Some actually file the cutting edge putting a 1/64" flat "nose" on the blade, although I haven't tried that myself.

Agreed, the bench grinder is much more of a specialty tool in my opinion and is way overkill for grass blades. I've read the same about flattening out the edge, as it makes it less brittle or prone to damage. And I agree with that as well... these blades spin so fast, there is no need to have a knife-edge. Additionally, the blades are like $10 a piece new so if I get 2 - 3 seasons from them before replacing them, I'm fine with that. If they are damaged enough to need a bench grinder... it's definitely time to replace!

Oh she's around, always around... I usually do my work and make videos while she sleeps or while family watches her, so she isn't always available for a cameo :)
