Drummer's Opinion:
5:11 He's playing drums with "rods" instead of the standard sticks there. These rods provide a very low volume drumming experience and have little to no volume on cymbals considering how soft Gumby (The drummer) is playing . This is probably why we can't hear the high-hat here.
Edit: This can be seen at 5:29 as we hear very less volume from the crash as well.

music is low & muffled in the first section since the singer is fighting with depression. music opens up in the later section to show the bright side of the life and nature of advice given to first singer. you didn't watch the complete video, first singer again appears in the end humming melody of second singer which shows that he received the advice and quite liked it
