Training Maverick-Day #5-Mesquite Ranch Adventures

Sarah works on refining Maverick's groundwork skills: backing, lunging, desensitizing to slapping the ground, yielding the forequarters, yielding the hindquarters, side-passing, and flexing to the bit.
Sarah doesn't ride him on Day Five due to a undiagnosed (at the time) limp. The limp was due to a hoof bruise that we treated; he has fully recovered from it and was cleared for work by our veterinarian. A good portion of groundwork is low-impact and therefore was not harmful to his condition.
