This video explains the viral TikTok trend of popping open balloons to reveal "frozen" water. Those videos are not fake, however they're harder to get right than they look. If you tried replicating it and failed then just follow the tutorial below! Getting the perfect laminar flow depends on the size of your balloon and the speed at which water comes out. Smaller balloons need fairly small holes which slows down the water flow so you actually have time to film it.

LAMINAR FLOW BALLOONS
1) Fill regular balloons with water while supporting the base
2) Tape a hashtag shape making sure the central square is very small (5-10mm)
3) Place balloon in a bowl aimed at the sink or in the garden
4) Use a pin or needle to pop a hole
5) Have your phone ready to film and focus on the first part of the stream
6) If done correctly, a normal balloon like the one I used in the video should produce a good laminar effect for 1-2mins
7) If the water flows out faster than that, then try again or use larger balloons

Hi

@@selenassquintanilla8527 ah yes, shrug pig smug cry laughing cry laughing
The tape isn’t to slow the flow down, it is to prevent the balloon from popping
Syd R yeah!
Are you saying this in a nice way or a mean way?

-KittyCat Paws- maybe she just misinterpreted what she wanted to say. what she meant to say was she just wanted to correct what joanna said. she didn’t say anything about being a
know-it-all. that was just kinda mean, boo.
Not to be that person but I really miss it when when maqaroon and Cute life hacks did unique DIYs. Now it's all "slime" "squishy" or "tiktok"
Oof me too qwq
The good ol days
Me too...
Me too😯
I miss her needle felting :((
Lol 😂 I just love how she fights the water when the cuts gets too big. 😂😂
She didn't even do the experiment right; the tape she placed created a bigger square which the reason why the tape was there in the first place was to keep holes from getting too big. She hadn't thought twice and set herself up to just fail.
Britney Dai ok boomer
Britney Dai Did you watch the whole video? Cause she later that she realized that it’s better to make the square smaller

Oh never thought id be here this early
Hi.
I hope you have a great day!🤗
Wow someone other than Smarter Every Day talking about laminar flow? I love it! We need more laminar flow content 😍
Captain Disillusion :p
I would never have guessed someone would actually want to hear about laminar flow. I thought that school has it covered already

I thought it was going to be like those water bottles that instantly freeze. Still cool though. Definitely noticed it in the first attempts too.
You know that you spend too much time on the internet when the first thought you had was “yaaaaas Joanna the science queen, showing physics on Wikipedia I staaan”
i dont think so
I don’t think anybody had that thought
I didn’t think I’ve been this early ever.
i love this video! a lot of people are saying that they don’t like this video, or that it’s boring. but keep in mind that joanna works hard to edit and make her videos. we should give her credit for doing this! not everybody has the same interests :)
Imagine using one of those wedding balloons for this.
Wow that’s soooo awesome! I love you’re videos so much😘 You’re awesome at everything you do!
Love when you test viral trends
Zixen Vernon best things to test!
I really enjoy when you explain the science behind those trends. It's really interesting and I often learn something new!
Yay I’m early finally😒 make sure to keep making videos🌷💘

This video was very nice to hear 😊
Very cool! And I love your voice! So soothing!
The wasted water is kinda painful
thankyou for always talking about / showing safety issues (like covering the outlet!) my little cousin watches you too and she's quite careless, she forgets about safety.
This the best video explaining the tiktok, how they do it and the how the laminar effect works. Cool!
I love your voice. It’s so soothing (if that’s the word)
4:16 *laminar flow works*
Later: Why is it not working? 🤣
Edit: she also said the tape is for the water or something but it's just so the balloon doesn't pop 😂
I love how you make mistakes then figure out why and do it right. Good job!
OMG I'M EARLY!!! YOU JUST POSTED THIS 4 MINUTES AGO!!!!
Deep breaths.
Haha lol I'm just pretty happy :)

Omg I’m early I love you and Isabella ❤️ 💕

Every time you explain a new craft or trend i learn something new about the science of things
she’s so wholesome🥺🥺
Love these vids
I love your videos Joanna! Your so smart & creative! Have a great day anyone reading this!
Pikachu Lover this isn’t even creative or original. She used capin dissolusion’s method. Laminar flow isn’t even relevant no more
I did not mean this video specificity, she is very creative in other videos. Also you don't need to be rude. 🤔
I first learnt of laminar flow from smarter every day and ever since then I started noticing it. This is awesome
Captain Disillusion has a great video on this effect too! I get the feeling that a Captain D/Maqaroon crossover would be strangely satisfying...
yeah! he makes great VFX videos
THE BALLON AT 7:26 LOOKS LIKE AN EGGPLANT...LOL!😹
A professional video about the subject.
It's actually larimer flow! But this so honestly one of the coolest things I've ever seen! I've seen it actually happen a few times and the water looks frozen but yet it's moving 😂!!
The tape is there so the balloon doesn’t just pop completely
You are so pretty 😍
I'm your new subscriber 😊
Woah, i had studied about this effect in hydraulics but now i actually know what it really looks like, thanks🙏
Bro her freaking out during the first few attempts like she wasn't expecting the water to come out.
Hello! Love your videos!
1:14 Kim vs. Courtney
*Kourtney*
Is that not how everyone ties balloons, air-filled or water-filled? That’s the only way I’ve ever seen it be done/done it, and I can’t even imagine how else to tie a balloon.
Kookie i tied it a different way and lemme tell u.. i couldn’t tie a water balloon if my life depended on it 😔
Hey.love your videos.
Could you please do more crafts? I miss those!
first i love your vids i think u are the best
So cool!!!

Omg this was so cool
I was trying to remember the word. But then I realized my science classes were in French, so I remember it as « courant laminaire »

Hey I love your video
your voice is so pretty!
Who else misses her DIYs
4:26 she missed the balloon entirely now that was funny as heck
Hey I love your voids so much

This brings back memories of that captain disillusion laminar flow video
joanna: Laminar flow
Me:thank u Steve Spangler for being able to understand this flowery koala
7:16 the balloon looks just like an eggplant lol
Finally a video that hasn't been affected by coppa
As for the tape, can I use whatever type if I don't have electrical tape?
The tape is to prevent the rip from progress. It can be any tape that has enough adhesive to stop the rubber from ripping apart. On the first try it is too big, the knife is not the problem. The tape must be closer together. A big rip tends to be erratic a small rip tends to have smooth edges. A round balloon will roll, fix it. Don't hold it, don't squeeze it, that makes the water turbulent. Also let the balloon rest before pinching it and do it gently. Confetti that is bigger than the hole will clog it stopping the flow or making it turbulent.
You're amazing 😍
Wow this is cool 😊
love the video
Why. Did. I. Not. Get. A. Notification.
Look how late i am ,i just got the notification, i actually thought i was early for once😭
I love when you tie a water balloon & get a baby water bubble in the tie... I used to pop them with my teeth when I was a kid... 😄🎈
why is this now relevant? I saw and learned about laminar flow in 2016 on tkor lmao
Can you please let me know the music used in the background? Great video btw ♥️
Johanna! Have you seen Captain Disillusion's video on laminar flow? It's an amazing video, from back before videos of it were popular, and everyone thought it was a "fake CGI" effect. At the very end of the video, he shows this water balloon trick and talks a little bit about how it works. You should give it a watch!

6:43 The water flow kinda looks like jelly when she moves the balloon
that’s pretty cool
Soo *satisfying*
