1953 Matchless G45 Race Bike...What a Sound!

- The G45 has to be one of the best looking and sounding race bikes of its time. With its 500cc twin cyclinder engine this rare bike was over shadowed by its more famous sibling Matchless G50.
Both the Plumbstead and Wolverhampton competition bikes are just eye candy for a classic bike enthusiast, whether it's trials or road racing. I have a brace of each. Sadly I'll never own a G45, but I have butchered duplex frame that i found at a swap meet that has the makings of one. I may get my replica completed now I am retired. 👍

The competition department at Plumsted turned out some of the most beautiful bikes of all time..
It's a shame that they never turned out road going versions of these machines!..

they said the g50 had an edge in performance, and was more saleable as a road bike. maybe, but the amc management was suspect, unwilling to spend much money in development, since the owner was just cashing out. had his own island in the channel.
anyway, g45 was the prettiest bike amc ever made, i was very disappointed to learn that they were not for sale.

Beautiful bike.....then someone bored out a 7R......AMC tried to turn a road bike into a GP bike but it failed,jampots an all😊
