I saw a dude with later model F150 with the shifting issues and he had it in and out of the dealer until he got the right tech to do an extended ride along to experience the complaint. The tech told him they could erase the adaptive learning data already learned and also added that Ford can actually TURN OFF adaptive learning for the future. The dude said hell yeah and has not had any issues since.
I've spent 55 years rebuilding 20k+ transmissions. We've been telling people the 10 speed GM/Ford trans is really very good. Couple internal problems we can fix during a rebuild. Real problem is the software that controls it. I expect they will come out with new programs or updates to fix other models. Chrysler started the adaptive memory controlled transmissions in 1989 so this is far from new. Newer vehicles today have more than 15,000,000 lines of computer info to operate the vehicle. It's gonna be a tough job fixing this problem. Transmission is the easy part.
Call ford and complain I did they fixed mine. Kinda I have a 2020 xlt put 5k on it in almost 5 months has 2 rebuilt transmissions and 2 rear ends. The dealer says it's safe to drive were busy drive it till it stops so I have and they fixed it twice now on my third time in 5 month. Ten speed transmission is trash
You know what is free and nearly instant as well? Hold the + and - pole together to get all electrical systems down, then wait 15min, and reconnect. Safes you from spending $1000+...
I have a 2020 Raptor, I only have the jerking shifts when in sport mode and only when going into 5th. I asked the dealer to erase the learning in the transmission, hopefully it works and hopefully they actually do it. It’s in the shop for the cam sensor recall.
I think the only thing you are doing is resetting the learning tables, which over time the harshness will return. For around $20 you can get an OBD to USB and plug into your laptop, get FORSCAN (free) and delete the tables. Yes, the harness is will return over time but it is a quick and cheaper alternative. This has been my experience.
The Cobb AP does more than just reset the learning tables. It changes the shifting points, shift firmness, torque limits, upshift backout and the behavior of the shifts. If what you mean is, it resets the learning tables and puts Cobbs learning tables over it, and then eventually the TCM will overwrite those when it learns how you drive, then maybe. All I know is, just resetting back to the factory TCM settings is absolute garbage compared to Cobbs TCM maps. Cobbs TCM maps makes the transmission feel like a completely different animal. Its so much more refined.
@@Slider712 Forscan does the exact same and thing and also with forscan you have the ability to rewrite modules and program keys and smart key fobs for push button start systems.. Forscan is a cheaper alternative for sure!
@@finley614 Forscan is really cool for sure, no doubt. I just don't have the time or patience to sit down and learn it. Plus I wanted to run the Stage 1 engine management map, it really wakens up the 3.5.
Disclaimer: I'm not a Cobb user... Forscan is a great tool for a lot of things and if you want to reset your TCM's learning tables, Forscan will do that. However, if you want to remap your TCM's shift points, Forscan will not do that, a different device will be required and it appears that the Cobb is such a device.
Wow, I couldn’t feel more connected to your issue dude, every time I go to the dealer and they treat me like trash, and they tell me the stupid things that does not make any sense whatsoever, I almost have to tell the guy every time to reset my freaking adapt in learning tables, I can’t believe Ford is doing this it took me 20 years to finally be able to put my hands in one truck and I thought Ford was the option. My 2023 has 700 miles, bought at 600. This video makes me think it was the 35mph max test drive for maybe 600 miles that is causing this really silly shift between 6th and 7th consistently. You also make me wonder that if I do this if it violates my lifetime transmission and engine warranty. When I contacted the dealer they said that it should quote unquote smooth out over time and now I'm seeing all this. Man!
Also you should drop the pan and remove the plastic strip that plugs into all your shift soleniods and wipe them off really good with a rag to make sure there's no metal filings laying in there shorting your solenoids out intermittently. Thats a really common issue on the 6R80 and 10R80 transmissions.
We have a 17 and an 18 F150 and have had the exact same issues. Been to the dealership multiple times. It's sad we bought our "forever trucks" and my husband has literally only had it 1 month out of the year due to issues. Got it back still not fixed. Mine is sitting in the shop with the same issues and backorder parts. Who knows if I'll every get it back.
I have a 2019 stx screw with the 2.7eco and since I've had the truck the 3-4 shift had always done weird things, along with the occasional harsh downshift at highway speeds. Installed the accessport today and flashed the oem+ engine and trans maps. Just returned from a test drive and I'm highly impressed. Weird shifts seem to be gone, it just does it's thing as expected now. The accessport isn't exactly cheap, but I think easier than the hassle of dealing with a dealership and getting a loaner. +1 from me Happy I found these vids
Added note: From my 3 weeks of observation, it seems like the oem+ map disabled skip shift. I drove in eco mode 95% of the time and it goes through every gear now. Maybe lost .1 mpg compared to previous running 87, but for me I would trade that for a transmission that functions well any day.
I have the same issue on a F150 xlt 2013 ecoboost. First time I went they told me the same bulls...*....that the truck will learn. After some time I went back to another Ford dealer and they told me I needed a new transmission for $5500. Laught and left
I used my laptop with forscan with the extended license for $12.00 and the obd adapter from amazon, I have a 2019 F150 and that I bought just before Christmas, progressively started shifting like crap. with hard down shifts and hard up shifts, so I found out you could stop the adaptive learning on the trans with forscan, cleared the adaptive learning, then turned off the adaptive learning altogether , and now shifts perfect, no hard shifts or anything works like it should.

None of my 4 f150s had trans issues until the one I have now that's a 10 speed. I don't miss my gm vehicles yet. I always had "normal" oil burning issues and "normal" lifter tics. Different experiences I guess.
I got my F150 back from the dealer same issues but driving on freeway trans got hot and blew transmission fluid all over underneath! They replaced valve body and a bunch of other stuff! I put lubegard in it and put a mishimoto trans cooler on! I drove the wheels off all weekend and it's never shifted better will it come back time will tell! Good luck to you other F150 owners!
Best option imo. My taurus sho loved never learning shift points and ran rough. Transmission fluid looked good and no codes. Took a launch creader and stopped the use of transmission adaptive learning and it's like its brand new. Almost had the computer replaced but after reading online I decided to try disabling the option.

I’m having the exact same problem right now out of my 2017 F150 they had to rebuild my transmission because some other things all of a sudden went wrong and now after getting it back it still has this jerk when going from park to drive or park to reverse. I’m thinking about this Cobb device but they said while the truck is relearning my transmission I can’t flash it yet. I have to wait a few weeks until I hit 500 plus miles on the rebuilt transmission before they can flash it.
Wonder if tunes from 5 star or MPT have the same issue as your Cobb…seems like to me you should be able to disable the transmission “learning” so you don’t have to worry about reflashing your TCM
I've seen YT videos where someone disables the learning tables, though it looks like it probably takes a service computer tool to do it. I think it would be great if TCM reflashers could also be used to disable the learning table but that would also (potentially) result in people not using a custom flash. This would be a good option for Forscan... wipe the tables or turn them off. From what I understand, the "learning tables" learn both your driving habits and also learn the peculiarities of that particular transmission. Since the system is adaptive, if a bad value sneaks in, that could be where a problem develops in drivability.

Dude, I just got the Cobb AP, mainly for the TCM mapping for my 17' F150, and what an absolute difference. The Cobb OEM+ map is worth every penny of the price of the AP. Stage 1 is also awesome as well. No more weird down shifting or upshifting, it holds the power band waaay better. No clunkyness in the shifting any more. The truck was always quick before, but now with Stage 1 and the TCM tune, it's actually really shocking how much better it feels. Truly a worthy upgrade. Question, did you flash the TCM to Cobbs map, then take the truck in for the Cam Phaser TSB repair? Apparently if you do, you need to uninstall the AP, reinstall it, have it backup the ECU data again and put the maps back on. They say on the site the truck will identify as "RECALLED" or "PR-1" which is Post Recall. If you installed when the truck was labeled "Recalled" then took it in for service, I'm pretty sure Ford remaps the TCM with their mappings.
The adaptive learning is just redundant in my opinion. If you have forscan or a scan tool capable of accessing transmission module controls definitely disable the use of adaptive learning. The computers ability to learn bad habits and never run smooth can be frustrating. Just resetting the tables can lead to problems coming back or new ones being created 😑
There should be a super max gulag to throw all the people that had any part in this transmission's design into. I have the same problem in a 2019 Ford F150. I used the Forscan adapter and laptop to clear the shift tables.

Rumor has it you can also fix this with forscan, which only requires a $40 obdii adapter. So I wouldn’t abandon all hope. Just keep an eye out for bad shifts when you’re looking to buy
Yes! I recommend turning it off ASAP cause the whole idea that the system learns anything is just dumb. It show be calibrated to shift smooth NO MATTER WHAT and have user input from the throttle position be minimal at best. The 6f55 can also have this problem and I drove a 2018 explorer sport recently and it it jerked bad for 55k miles.

Funny intro but sadly this is exactly my same experience with Ford. Know that this is the way all dealerships behave now. I've had Toyota treat me the same. Honda in 2018 with a bad Accord that slammed on brakes but they had no fix for. Traded a 2019 Fusion because of the same transmission issues and a recall that couldn't be done because they told me the exact same thing that they told you but eventually admitted that they didn't have loaners anymore because they had to sell them all in order to stay above water. I think that's why we're seeing more people driving Luxury cars now. These modern brands are all loaded experiments at the consumers expense. My next car will be a Porsche. I'm so done with all of these companies using and abusing us. We suffer financially each time we have to get rid of a car because it's dangerous or just a headache to drive. Stay away from Mazda as well. Mazda is my current headache and it shifts just like all of the Ford's and the dealers are jerks who deny any issue that they have no fix for. Don't fall for the hype in these CZcams videos recommending brands that pay the CZcamsr to lie to us.
so do you have to 'flash' often? Are you using and relying upon your tuner every other week? I guess what I am really asking is once you do a 'flash' session, should this fix the issue permanently?

Ford should be embarrassed. I have a 2017 raptor and have the harsh shifting. After taking it to ford for the 5th time. They just replaced the valve body last week. Really sad we paid 73k for the raptor and they don’t give a flying fuck they made a shit product.
Hey I was just wondering if you had any updates on Cobbs TCM tune? Is the reflash still working the second time around, or did you have to reflash it again a third time? If so, do you have any ideas why the transmission might need a reflash every couple of months. I know reflashing the TCM isn’t a huge project, but I was hoping the amount of money it costs for the accessport that the reflash would be more of a set it and forget it kinda thing, but maybe not. It was more like a couple years between flashes for me before it came back. And no, it hasn’t come back again. I’m told a forscan tcm table reset works too and that’s way cheaper for an obdii adapter

People have commented that you can clear the learning tables with forscan. I’d spend $40 on that before $1000 on Cobb if that’s all you’re going to use it for. If you want an excuse to tune your truck though…

When I’m on the freeway with my ford explorer st and it down shifts I’ll completely lose power and the transmission doesn’t engage I have to let go of the throttle and then the transmission goes into gear. It does this pretty often. If anyone knows what’s going on that would be great.

if you use forscan you can clear the transmission knowledge and also then set it to stop learning once you have it like you want it

My F150 definitely has the downshifting jerk. What's worse is that it jerks the truck forward when I'm trying to slow down.

Having the same problem with my 2016 F150. Been to 3 shops including dealer and it’s still not fixed.
TCM Learning learns how the driver drives. So if the driver is a jerk then it will jerk shift😅

I think it would be great if TCM reflashers could also be used to disable the learning table but that would also (potentially) result in people not using a custom flash. This would be a good option for Forscan... wipe the tables or turn them off.
From what I understand, the "learning tables" learn both your driving habits and also learn the peculiarities of that particular transmission. Since the system is adaptive, if a bad value sneaks in, that could be where a problem develops in drivability.
The opening would be funny if it wasn’t true. I had almost the same experience this week. The fix seems more like a band aid instead of a fix. An expensive band aid I might add. It would be great if we could just turn the adaptive learning crap off. Thank for the video.

Dude, I just got the Cobb AP, mainly for the TCM mapping for my 17' F150, and what an absolute difference. The Cobb OEM+ map is worth every penny of the price of the AP. Stage 1 is also awesome as well. No more weird down shifting or upshifting, it holds the power band waaay better. No clunkyness in the shifting any more. The truck was always quick before, but now with Stage 1 and the TCM tune, it's actually really shocking how much better it feels. Truly a worthy upgrade.
Question, did you flash the TCM to Cobbs map, then take the truck in for the Cam Phaser TSB repair? Apparently if you do, you need to uninstall the AP, reinstall it, have it backup the ECU data again and put the maps back on. They say on the site the truck will identify as "RECALLED" or "PR-1" which is Post Recall. If you installed when the truck was labeled "Recalled" then took it in for service, I'm pretty sure Ford remaps the TCM with their mappings.
The adaptive learning is just redundant in my opinion. If you have forscan or a scan tool capable of accessing transmission module controls definitely disable the use of adaptive learning. The computers ability to learn bad habits and never run smooth can be frustrating. Just resetting the tables can lead to problems coming back or new ones being created 😑
There should be a super max gulag to throw all the people that had any part in this transmission's design into. I have the same problem in a 2019 Ford F150. I used the Forscan adapter and laptop to clear the shift tables.

@@jgunder0523 I had a Ford dealer look at my 2019 F150 and they agreed that there is a problem. I parked the truck waiting on Ford to have the parts. 7 weeks later, I am still waiting for them to get the parts in to fix it. Of course my payments aren't waiting.

Rumor has it you can also fix this with forscan, which only requires a $40 obdii adapter. So I wouldn’t abandon all hope. Just keep an eye out for bad shifts when you’re looking to buy

They can tell how many ignition cycles since a reset if you put it back to factory. What caused the reset though…???

Yes! I recommend turning it off ASAP cause the whole idea that the system learns anything is just dumb. It show be calibrated to shift smooth NO MATTER WHAT and have user input from the throttle position be minimal at best. The 6f55 can also have this problem and I drove a 2018 explorer sport recently and it it jerked bad for 55k miles.

I am pretty sure you can just disconnect your battery for about an hour and it will reset.
That will not reset the TCM.

Funny intro but sadly this is exactly my same experience with Ford. Know that this is the way all dealerships behave now. I've had Toyota treat me the same. Honda in 2018 with a bad Accord that slammed on brakes but they had no fix for. Traded a 2019 Fusion because of the same transmission issues and a recall that couldn't be done because they told me the exact same thing that they told you but eventually admitted that they didn't have loaners anymore because they had to sell them all in order to stay above water. I think that's why we're seeing more people driving Luxury cars now. These modern brands are all loaded experiments at the consumers expense. My next car will be a Porsche. I'm so done with all of these companies using and abusing us. We suffer financially each time we have to get rid of a car because it's dangerous or just a headache to drive. Stay away from Mazda as well. Mazda is my current headache and it shifts just like all of the Ford's and the dealers are jerks who deny any issue that they have no fix for. Don't fall for the hype in these CZcams videos recommending brands that pay the CZcamsr to lie to us.

Ford should be embarrassed. I have a 2017 raptor and have the harsh shifting. After taking it to ford for the 5th time. They just replaced the valve body last week. Really sad we paid 73k for the raptor and they don’t give a flying fuck they made a shit product.

Hey I was just wondering if you had any updates on Cobbs TCM tune? Is the reflash still working the second time around, or did you have to reflash it again a third time? If so, do you have any ideas why the transmission might need a reflash every couple of months. I know reflashing the TCM isn’t a huge project, but I was hoping the amount of money it costs for the accessport that the reflash would be more of a set it and forget it kinda thing, but maybe not. It was more like a couple years between flashes for me before it came back. And no, it hasn’t come back again. I’m told a forscan tcm table reset works too and that’s way cheaper for an obdii adapter

Hello I have a 2017 F150 like yours and I have the exact problem, my truck jerks from park to drive and downshifting by 3rd gear also, I took it to the dealer and they ‘’fixed it’’ and now the problem came back, and they don’t fix it unless I pay 3000 because the warranty expired,,

People have commented that you can clear the learning tables with forscan. I’d spend $40 on that before $1000 on Cobb if that’s all you’re going to use it for. If you want an excuse to tune your truck though…

Shift 1-3-5-6-7-8-9-10 On Highway 1-10 downshift 1 from 10 losing power! in town 1-3-( 4-5 delay a second and hard shifting I gently step on gas pedal then shifts to 6 and going making me sick I loved my truck but the previous owner hides the transmission repairs from me TCM and Valve body replaced I figure that 2000 mile's after my purchases I called the owner he said oh yes we get fixed that issue I have the receipt for it WHAT THE FUCK that's Disappointing and SCAMMING Dishonest I asked if anything wrong with it or any repair I was told we have all service records from dealership nothing wrong with the truck I have no ideal Wright about that Dudes Go to the mechanic scan the car see any code when you sign the as - is paper make fore sure says there are no hided repairs

When I’m on the freeway with my ford explorer st and it down shifts I’ll completely lose power and the transmission doesn’t engage I have to let go of the throttle and then the transmission goes into gear. It does this pretty often. If anyone knows what’s going on that would be great.
