    As a service repair tech, I work on more GE washers than anything. I recommend Whirlpool top loaders for reliability.
    GE washers from the 70s and 80s were good. The old Kenmore’s would last 25 years.

      I had a basic Kenmore washer which lasted 37 years. Just quit on me a few weeks ago. Bought a Hotpoint to replace the Kenmore. The new unit seems to wash fine, but it sounds like a sick cow during the wash cycle. It does spin the clothes quite dry, however.

    And it had these problem from the get go . And the whirlpool without the agitator , my clothes didn’t even get clean . I bought it on sale 16 years ago and never was impressed . So I bought this one because it doesn’t make sense to spend so much money on the same problems .

      I read hundreds of reviews from every brand of more expensive models and universally people hated them. They all were unreliable with serious issues. Makes zero sense to spend a lot on them. I am very confident the Hotpoint I got at Home Depot will turn out to be a good deal.

    I was considering this washer, since my 24 yr. old Kenmore is having balancing problems on the spin cycle. I didnt want to spend a lot of money on some fancy washer, with all the bells and whistles that I dont need.. However, after watching your review and the balancing problems this unit has, I am crossing it off my list. Dont want to trade an old machine for a new one with the same problem. Tried fixing my old one and replaced many parts, but it still persists. So it looks like I am stuck going to the higher priced units, which I dont like. Thanks for your review. It helped in making my decision.

    We just bought this machine we get it in 2 weeks. I've had a lot of pre owned washer and dryers and do not recommend going that route even with a nice one. More often they broke and then got fixed and still sold at a high price for a used item. All of ours have broken within the first year or two. I do wash often but nothing heavy. I opted for a new one of these, I just need it to get me through nursing school.

    I just paid about $650 for one of these machines. I also added the 5 year warranty from Home Depo. I got tired of buying used machines that didn’t last too long. The main problem I have with used machines is they don’t agitate that good and they leave my clothes dirty or smelling very bad. Also my clothes were left soaking wet a lot of times. Sometimes the washing machines would start leaking water or they would overflow with water. Also the part that takes in the water would break down a lot too. I just hope this new machine washes my clothes and takes all of the water out from my clothes leaving them clean. Hope it last a very long time too.

    • @jgg204
      @jgg204 Před rokem +3

      the reason why they don't agitate as good and why they spin slower, is b/c the Dept of Energy (DOE) in 2006 put a mandate on ALL top loading washing machines to use less energy. as a result, you get all of this weak shit

    I think that Maytag's two lower agitator models are decent modestly priced machines. I also know that even the least expensive Maytag Maxima front loaders clean like crazy and care for fabric really well. They're also pretty well warranted. If you might be able to demonstrate Model MVWC565FW and a Model MHW3505FW I'd appreciate it. I think that both are really well thought out machines for their types and tasks, perform well, care for fabric, and are well covered by the manufacturer without braking the bank. Thanks

The noise in agitation sounds like a rubbing noise which I was told will eventually go away but I've done about 12 loads since purchase and it's still there. I heard it in the video, so I assume that's just the normal noise. Machines are in a back bedroom closet, so the noise does not bother me anymore.

    We just got this machine and so far not very impressed. For the first load, it ran the spin cycle for nearly 30 minutes! I was about to pull the plug to stop it when it finally stopped on its own. The second wash it ran the spin cycle for 15 minutes which still seems long to me. One thing I also find annoying is that there is no "OFF" position so if you accidentally turn any one of the selection knobs, it turns on and just sits there waiting for you to start it. Really needs a way to just have it stay off without having to unplug the damn thing. This is replacing a Samsung front-loader that we had for 13 years. I can't see this thing lasting half of that.

Grease from the Gearcase has been seeping for almost 2 years so every 1-1/2 months, I have to pull the belt off to clean the grease off it & the pullies. Otherwise it will fail to spin because it thinks the load is unbalanced & fill the tub up with water all over again. Body is rusting in some spots, never uses enough water so I always have to pour in more with the hose, and it never did well balancing a load. It’s walked forward the length of the drain hose…. Only positive thing is that it does clean well when it’s got the proper amount of water in it.

    My apartment complex replaced my old washer with the GE version of this. Overall not a bad washer. like Kirk says it can go off balance sometimes. so if your washing a heavy load you should look out for it going off balance.. dont think this machine has the capability to fix an out of balance load the suspension is not the best.. if you wash delicates the agitator barely moves on the delicate cycle the clothes are not agitated at all. Water levels are good except for the small load selection the agitator is very aggressive and really harsh on your clothes ...best to use the medium cycle. do like the option of a deep rinse or spray rinse .Didn't see much difference in the cycles they all washed with the same agitation speed. But overall not a bad washer it washes better than many top loaders with the washplate. and it does use WATER!!

    The reason that machine is knocking like that is ,either the belt has slipped or the belt snapped. It needs a new belt and then it won’t be banging like that when it goes into the spin cycle. even though it’s a new machine, maybe the belt just slipped off, might not have been put on right in the first place.

      When you wash a pillow you need to wash 2 pillows so the load is even. I have seen Speed queen washer at laundomat unbalanced and walking because they washed only 1 pillow with other few small clothes in the washer. 2 pillows of similar size will be a perfect balanced wash and spin.

    Very impressive wash action much better than higher price models. Spin speed at 700 current 2017 and older Speed Queens are 710 and the capacity of this one is slightly more. I don’t think the spin is an issue or the size. I would think the built quality is something to consider for a long range purchase. As they say you get what you pay for.

    Have the same washer expect after 2 yrs suspension rods to be replaced.They start sagging quickly causing bottom of the belt assembly grinding the cabinet.Its around 80 dollars to replace 4 of them not difficult to do but often people trash this thinking its broken when hearing the grinding noise but its simple fix.I wished they used stronger springs...You can extend the life of suspension rods by doing max large load not extra large and supper which put lot of weight on rods.Overall its good machine with faulty design concept.

    2:48 many of the top load washers here in Asia, as soon as the tub hits the sides 3-5x, the machine would automatically stop the spin, pull in more water for an extra rinse cycle to try to adjust the clothes, and it'll try spinning again.
    if it bounces 3-5x again, instant stop, pull in more water yet again for one more extra rinse cycle.
    and if it still bounces so hard yet again, the dang machine will finally spit out an error message telling the human to balance the clothes themselves.
    the excessive extra water used is 'cringe', as the kids say, especially if you're using deep fill such as for blankets :(

    Of course it can't balance a load. Hanging suspension for the loss! My bro's old 2010 direct drive I think cost as much, if not less than this machine when new! And it washed, as well as operated a hell of a lot better than this.

      There has never been a GE washer I've really liked. I never even had a Filterflo though I had to tolerate one at a condo building once. It stretched my shirts. I bought a front load from a scratch and dent store and never warmed up to it. It was used in my garage as a rag washer. I've replaced it already.

    • @Sharkie626
      @Sharkie626 Před 6 lety +2

      The Filteflos were a good concept. The main issue I saw with them was, I think that filter just got in the way most of the time, and there really wasn't too much turn over based on the videos I saw. There certainly was agitation, but the clothing always seems to roll back and forth; never fully roll over.

Hotpoint used to be good when it was still Hotpoint but here in the uk they sold out to merloni who made indesit and servis machines bus they are owned by whirlpool. Millions of dryers from the last 11 years have been recalled due to being fire hazards. There have been loads of devastating fires caused by Hotpoint, indesit and ariston machines and the lesser uk machines creda proline and electra

      We just got ours delivered today, we had the old model hot point top loader we purchased it when we purchased our home which was in 2002 it lasted all the way up until 3 weeks ago 2021, so we decided to purchase this one because it was hot point in hopes it would do the same, now I'm seeing all these complaints and concerns I don't like the agitator that's different, and the electronic push button to start that's different and we had a plastic tub that's different and the lid lock is different, but you all are saying it doesn't balance your clothes well and the water doesn't fill all the way, I'm praying that don't happen and it last longer than 2 to 3 year's, the old one stood the test if time.
