    I'm the "professional viking photographer" 😂 Thanks for including my photo in the critique! It was shot in 2020 on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland. The sea cliff behind is called "karlinn". I appreciate your comments and there is definitely something good I can take away from them. I'm primarily a landscape photographer with a love for portraits as well so I figured this could be something different from the incredible studio shots in there. I'm not sure why it looks so extra washed out in the video but I guess and hope it's just a color grade thing. Again thank you guys! My first competition and long time viewer!

      Don't listen to these guys, no clue what they're talking about half the time with these critiques. Environmental portraits are totally a thing, and yours is dope. Two steps too the left the axe would be better framed in the island, while maintaining the subject positioning. Back lit sun is awesome, but could use lighting on the face to maintain the focus on primary subject, and give the armor specular highlights. Also explore black level and color balance. Island is backlit but warm, viking is back lit but cool, makes a great contrast but visually confusing, look like they from different scenes. Water and hair look like they're blown in different directions also. All minor critiques on balance though. Liked your image a lot.

    34:50 "What is that show we used to like? With the robots? West World?" That is such a perfect and honest review of that entire series.
    "Patrick's Spoiler-Free 5 second Reviews" has to be the next big wave in short-form video.

    I have a workflow to fix crap product photos that are given to me by a client (I'm a graphic designer) using Stable diffusion line edge detecte feature combined with descriptive prompts that allows me to re-render the material on the bottle/packaging, and then i just transplant the labels. It turns a smartphone snapshot into studio quality product photography, without even having the product on hand and Stable diffusion is rendering the textures and lightning which gives you a 100% natural look with no artifacts or unnatural transitions between the product and the backdrop. Before AI i would have asked the client for the product brought it into a studio and take a flat lit image with my DSLR, then edit that manually. Of course this is draft quality and low res, but you would be surprised how many clients are happy with that VS paying for the extra time for the photoshoot and having to send the product my way and so on.

    Yes it's definitely a specific genre. We call it fantasy fashion. It's too costume based for normal fashion and its still not really cosplay. All dresses are selfmade and my images are really colorfull.
    Still thank you Lee and Patrick for the good critic and compliments!
    Its really good to know where to improve next.
    (And yes my name is funny. I use it for so long and it fits the style. Doesn't sound professionell though :D)

    Fun video but in the end I feel regardless of time or technology those who are looking for the type of images you create as well as those paying you for the type of images you create will gravitate towards your images regardless of time or technology. Look how often we still enjoy creating timeless images or images looking like old film and or styling, that means even in today’s time and technology there are others looking for all sorts of styles of imagery. It just depends on who is your target audience as well as those wanting your services. As far as AI, it’s amazing technology and it will hurt some of those out there, I feel especially those not photographing people. As with people it’s also about the client experience, the emotions we can capture which sometimes are provoked by us, often able to adjust on the fly, and so many things I feel need that human interaction, and not just about the imagery. For those photographers or videographers technology will make it easier for us to do the things easier so we can focus on the client experience etc. My fav image was the girl with the flower and back by far… it’s classic fine art and it’s beautiful and the old man teacher is freaking awesome… again timeless.

    Photo judges of contests. One time years ago back when me and Moses wore short pants I entered a photo contest the theme was called Summer Fun I got second place. My photo was of a dad and son with a model airplane getting ready to fly on a beautiful summer day, the photo that won was a lion in the cage at a zoo no people around really couldn't be sure that it wasn't fall or spring so judges well sometimes you just got to wonder but I Come Away knowing one thing that they've never erected a statue for a Critic.

    • @richarddukeshire
      @richarddukeshire Před 26 dny

      @@FStoppers I'm genuinely afraid for photography, a lot of styles may be eliminated. Some are safer for awhile like wedding and concert photography but genres like portraits and product seem almost certainly doomed. I love the ideas of things to help photography but not things that will make it obsolete and end jobs. Modelling alone, no model, no hair, no make up, no location, no craft services, no wardrobe, that's a lot of jobs replaced by AI right there. Do what you can to keep photography going, you guys are great. Cheers from Montreal, Quebec, Canada

    This isn’t a “strange time” for creative content, at least not more strange. AI is overshadowing Photoshop, which loomed over digital, which replaced color film. Before that, it was monochrome film, which crushed daguerreotype. At one point, a caveman complained that his animal etchings weren’t getting enough respect.

    • @FStoppers
      @FStoppers  Před 20 dny

      The difference is from animal etchings to compositing in photoshop, all of the prior tools relied on an actual person to see the vision and perform the task. Ai removes that entirely. -P

    You guys are reallllly reaching for things to stay...which is obvious since you select awesome shots, right? ;) Tha debate on that great viking shot was a prime example...my goodness... And then the stuff you critique is around one little detail you zone in on (subjectively) and make that the center of attention. Besides, it feels like the authors of the great shots already have the gear and knowledge, so it seems like a waste of the prizes.(?) Maybe you can pick images that actually need the critique? I'll let you figure that out :)

      They really do. Art can be analyzed but this is just humorous. Reality I think it should come down to just is the image pleasing and was it executed well. They even mentioned maybe this would be better image if it was a celebrity. And then contemplated on if the photographer was just horny …Lol.

      there is like a shallow DOF behind his ear and then the background is sharper again while the paneling below the blackboard looks like it has in focus highlights and shadows whereas the texture is soft but still different from the blackboard. And then there is that weird shadow around the tip of his tie without any direction. And then there are what looks like at least 2 separate layers of text on the blackboard of which the better visible one looks less in focus.

    • @DanFrancisPhoto
      @DanFrancisPhoto Před 29 dny

      @@b4yl34f this was created more than 5yrs ago. No AI. One Camera, one lens. two lights. And the blackboard was really behind him. It's my handwriting of each equation on a small blackboard.
      The image seems like they lightened it up for the review. It was a bit darker in the shadows. I did darken the bottom area to make sure the attention went to the face and not below his chest. I'm not sure about the shadow on the tip, again, I think that might have been lost in the original shadows, but they lightened up the image.

    I stopped watching after you guys highly rated the image after of the women in orange as it does not look real, it’s either AI or so overly processed her skin looks like a plastic doll, and the rest of the image just feels uncannily pristine. My emotion to the image is immediately disconnected as it has very little humanity. I mean if it’s not ai, this is the kind of processing is why the common person can’t tell a photo from a computer generated image, and means ai will continue to take over traditional photography, and we won’t get to go do the fun stuff, like interacting with real people to make make their photograph. Sorry for ranting, I know things have to change, and for applications such as product photography, ai can have at it, but I feel like humans should look and feel like humans.

Hanny Honeymoon's entire portfolio is this dreamy style which ironically is what AI imagery first started to model itself after.
