This is so me also but I am just entering the 60s era for me. I running everyday and I just sold my family estate in Minnesota and buying a used RV to renovate and live in full-time in Biloxi Mississippi. My brother lives there in a rv park. I once saw a video of a dairy farmer who bought those huge used car wash brushes for his cattle. He also poured fly spray on the brushes. When the cows rubbed on the brush they got the fly repellent on them! I thought that was pretty inventive!
I saw that also but those are too big for goats that farmer had them for his cows hence dairy farmer.

Im so impressed with how good hes doing and well trained animals comes from good trainers !! Yall are rocking it!
Prayers for you all as the weather continues, Im praying as Jesus said to the storms, Peace Be Still in Jesus Name. (And that does work! I have LITERALLY looked at the storm raging treerops rolling in circles, hail, rain sideways and INTO the storm yelled IN THE NAME OF JESUS PEACE BE STILL guys Ill stand before Him and youll see, the destruction of the storm STOPPED and it became a very light rain. dor maybe 15 minutes a rainbow appeared and it was so beautiful. And I have dome this more than once, very severe storms have been forcasted and literally split when it got to our area and they disappeared after praying in Jesus Name Peace be Still!! ) So thats my prayers for you guys, that God covers you all with His hand and anything that would be severe, I SPEAK AND CLAIM PEACE in Jesus Name. He is so faithful and merciful!

@territn8871 I disagree with you and I'm not the only one..!! Russell DOESN'T obey commands, mostly because Kevin doesn't give commands.! He treats well his animals, no doubt, but doesn't understand much about them. He keeps telling Russell " I know you're hungry, boy" or " don't you want to go and eat your food.? but nearly half hour can pass and nothing yet happens..I feel sorry for Russell. Then the food is there and Russell's mum & dad are elsewhere...and Russell desperate by now, eats his and his parents' (including the eggs..) Russell doesn't NEED 3 eggs per day. Does Kevin realise the parents aren't getting their eggs everyday ?? He should perhaps rectify that..
Anyway we can't be good at everything! Kevin is good at building stuff, doing repairs, he knows everything about wood, all types of wood, we can learn a lot from him on that topic.
Bottom line, I think perhaps he should let Rachel handle the dogs..
@@christinefrossard7983 Thank you for your opinion. However, I think for a young puppy, no older than Russell is, he's doing well. He is a smart puppy, but he has lots to learn to be a livestock guardian dog. I raise Dobermans and, in order to have a good obedient dog, you have to spend time every day training from puppies into their adulthood for them to completely understand verbal and hand commands. It certainly does not happen overnight for a puppy Russell's age to be a perfectly obedient dog. Nor do I expect it, though some must think so. He has a lot to learn since he will be a true working dog, but it will take months and months for him to get there. You surely don't expect him to behave like his parents or Mojo does because they have gone through the puppy stage and matured enough to know how to perform their duties of protecting the goats and their property. Little Russell is just a baby for heavens sake. You couldn't expect a human toddler to behave like a grownup, and neither can a puppy behave like an adult dog. They have to learn, and that takes many months of maturity and work. So I think baby Russell is doing fine, sorry you don't see it that way. Everyone has their own opinions and that's good thing, just as I know what you or I say doesn't matter to Kevin and Rachel. Russell is their puppy to train as they think he should be! And I think they have done a great job training Mojo, Kora, and Lieski to be livestock guardians!!
Russell is just so handsome! He reminds me of Marmaduke, just growing so quickly! He also reminds me of Scooby Doo, the way he holds his own in a conversation!

Kevin , Coghill farm brought some of those big brushes from a man, cheap!!!! They were brushes that were used for some kind of machinery and they were on a steel rod, so he installed them in his pastures for his animals, You might contact him and see what they were from and maybe find some more for your animals.

I agree with wanting until all 3 dogs are together before giving the eggs because Russell is the only one that gets them. I think once one goat uses them the others will follow. Take care and stay strong. God bless
Those scratching brushes are kool! They make them for cats we have several inside for only one cat. They would work outside for Smeagol maybe where Mojo sleeps. Our cat loves to scratch his face on them. It is so funny he go to the walls without them and looks like he wants but sees there is not one there. Then he will stare at you as if to say we need one here too! I had noticed the first time you called Russel by name I knew he was the one y'all were keeping even though y'all tried to play coy about which one.
With fewer goats in the barn the feeding time does not look so much like a feeding frenzy of sharks. God bless y'all have a safe summer, Steven

Give them time with the back scratcher they will figure it out and love it, I just use the brush from those push brooms on a couple different posts and my guys love it, I've even seen some mount brushes on the sides of their barns that the goats rub on. You'll have to watch your barn cam probably to catch them using it. Can't believe how big Mr. Russel is getting already.

Heard a siren going off, and then I realized it was probably the dam starting generation. But with bad weather coming, it took me a few seconds. It helped you weren’t reacting.

I think it will just take time for the goats to figure out what the brushes are for, then they'll all enjoy them. One idea on getting brushes cheaper, check and see if any of the nearby cities would sell any of their used street swiper brushes, I can't remember which channel I saw someone get some, but it was definitely a win win deal.

KEVIN YOU CAN CHECK WITH THE ROAD DEPARTMENT IN YOUR TOWN AND FIND OUT WHAT THEY DO WITH THE OLD ROLLERS THEY USE ON THE STREET SWEEPERS AND SEE IF THEY WILL GIVE YOU ONE. THEY ARE NICE AND BIG AND THEY FIT ON A POLE.
Jason and Brooke from Cog Hill Farms got a couple of 6ft rollers from a highway dept (I think) and rigged them up in the pasture for their animals to use. Their animals love them.

I've seen farmers used old car wash brushes for those scratches..making a t..one across the top for cows backs and 1 each side..for other animals..I think they will love it..

Kevin: Check with your local municipality, I know some who raise goats use the old brushes from the street sweeper machines once they "wear out". I know Al and Gena from Lumnah acres had one at their old place before moving to the 500 acre off grid homestead. May have to go back a couple years in their video's to check it out. I think they can be spendy but with livestock especially goats and the dogs one should last many many years.
He wasnt supposed to tell you Rachel taught him to talk. Many farmers use them brushes or rig up some of their own, cows, goats love them, the dogs might also. bet the donkeys would like a couple too.

totally agree about cardboard it attracts bugs. we store our stuff in plastic containers. it works great.
I had a Bernese Mountain dog who was a talker like Russell. But he really did it at the vets office, lol. Did you guys hear about the tornado that hit in Michigan the other day? Apparently it came down so suddenly that it caught everyone so off guard that even the Meteorologists couldn't warn anyone. That's scary. Be safe. I can't wait to see the goats use the scratchers. I know Gary Walker put up brushes for his cattle. And I think he can add bug repellant in it somehow so that it rubs onto the cattle to help with the flies.
