Great tips Bob! Especially about lights. It’s amazing the amount of people who seem think that because they have DRL’s on, it also means the rear lights are on! They’re not!
Sue and I have been winter camping for many years and this video sums up the importance of making winter changes to your routines. We have been outside in the cold doing many of the things you have mentioned in preparation for our December tour that starts tomorrow. Thanks for all the useful tips and reminders 😃🚐👍🏻 Trev n Sue
Thank you, see you soon 👍
Bon voyage! ☺
Many thanks for your videos!
A real help even for a Ex-Trucker.
We are on our planned adventures full time now, more drafts from our Cab than I had from my Truck.
This morning felt like two frozen fish fingers stuck together in the freezer.
Your habitation tips a real help.👍
The older Ducato cabs have huge ventilation slots in the door. I used to tape over those in the winter.
All very good advice thank you! We find the Cab Heater in our Motorhome will warm up the Habitation area too 😁
I don’t know if this is absolutely correct but a number of people on a forum said that modern diesels should not be run on idle, as it doesn’t get the engine up to temperature. The day before I was sitting in my cab for about 20 minutes and the temperature needle never moved. I guess that the advice is kosher.
@@SqwarkParrotSpittingFeathers Been like that for years with Diesels!
Great video Bob. We are off in a few days to Keswick in our MH for Christmas and New year we are putting a few things on our shopping list. We live on a narrowboat and can appreciate your advice about doing things during the day so you can stay nice and cosy after dark.
Many thanks Bob, very happy to winter camp in the caravan, it's warmer than the house. Don't forget Poppy and Tara's dog food in the emergency pack!!! Take care.
Oh yes! All ready to go now!
Hi Bob execellent advice and well presented, the only tip I would add is regarding the winter fuel diesel which is usually available form Oct onwards as this helps with the engine as when not being used as much.
Yes good point, my understanding is they introduce winter diesel mid November, so it's best to use your summer diesel before then as it doesn't work as welcome in freezing conditions.
Thank you Bob for the laugh at the start."Ready for anything". I'm glad I'd not got a coffee on the go because I'd have sprayed the computer!! Sound advice for winter.
Thank you 👍😁
Yet another well timed and informative video. Thanks
You are welcome, thank you.
Exxcellent tips Bob i just hope a lot of drivers see this video 🙂Emrgancy packs are a great idea, this is an example and not motor home related but i remember my Grandma went on a trip from Barnsley to Manchester to see a show, heavy snowfall came that was not forcast, she was stuck on a coach on the M62 for 8 hours i never forget that.
Yes, you never know what could happen.
great vlog
I remember as a boy in Birmingham, UK, when the winter temperature was (minus) -30 and no-one complained because it was "winter!"
-Wrap up everyone! ☺
I do remember a winter in Stone where it got down to -15 deg C
@@BobEarnshawMoHo I used to live in the East and I can tell you about cold temperatures!! ☺
Really good information, thanks .love the channel.
Thanks for doing this Bob - excellent content as always
Another very informative video thanks Bob, with some great tips 👍
Great video Bob
Thanks Bob, another very informative video, much appreciated.
Thank you Bob 😁
Great video Bob and thanks for the advice. This will be our first winter in our Motorhome.
Great tips Bob.
Thanks
Brilliant video Bob , lots of little winter reminders , (even for experienced old men like me ! )
Really helpful tips as always, and a couple I hadn’t considered such as moving the cable when it’s icy as would be a pain bringing half the grass with it when recoiling it. That reminds me too to remove some of the things we are carrying unnecessarily.
Have a great weekend,
All the best, David & Rachel 👍
I’ve started to make a Summer/Winter check list, to make sure I don’t take things I don’t need. Great advice, thanks Bob. A Merry Christmas to you, Jenny and Poppy.
Sensible.advice we’ll summarised as I’d expect from you Bob. Thanks for all you do
Brilliant advice, thank you 👍👍
Thank you
Really GOOD practical advice, Bob. I love motorhoming in the winter;- it's SO COSY! ☺
Great tips Bob! We tour mostly in Autumn/Winter and we love it 🥰 It’s all about preparation & layers, don’t forget your hot water bottle! Thanks, Em💛
Very good advice, most can by used for winter car trip 👍
Absolutely!
Hello. We're caravaners what great advice we've bin caravaning for 20+ yrs. Winter caravaning is so different to the summer months. You need to prepare and do things differently. X
Well said Bob...yes can't agree more about no lights on and how many E H Cables do you see rolled up....just can't believe it....
Thanks Bob for all those pearls of wisdom, really do come in handy and as a reminder they are most invaluable. Cheers.
Thanks
Morning Bob, firstly you are both legends , love the channel
Just off for our first winter getaway to Chatsworth, great blog and advice
Take care have a great Christmas
Thanks, have a good trip to Chatsworth.
Great video Bob. We are off for our first ever winter trip tomorrow at a cl in Lincoln and this has been super helpful. We love your channel.
Thank you, good to hear.
Great vlog, thanks Bob. Lots of helpful info, we’ve got the Gaslow system which I believe is Propane, so all good. All the best, Tony and Julie.
Yes refillable LPG is mainly propane.
I'm cracking up with that intro! amazing Bob!
Good tips here Bob. Still amazes me how some people have no lights on in dark and don't realise it. I tried snow socks but such a pain to get off when icy decided was better to get all year round tyres.
Snow chains are even more of a pain, I forget how to put them on!
@@BobEarnshawMoHo oh dear...
Just finished work for 3 weeks and got new boots on the van on Saturday would love to head up scotland for a week to photograph stags but im a little on edge with the weather
Yes, best to keep an eye on that weather.
Great advice Bob, we are off this weekend, first winter with the van and looking forward to it
Great video Bob and thanks for the great hints and tips 🙂 May I add one, if your van is in storage then it would be best to bring your lithium ion battery devices into your home (warm environment), they don't like being cold also if you can don't leave them fully charged for long periods.
Yes, good point.
Having just switched from a caravan to a motorhome I saw this and thought I must be missing something but just basic sensible advice for any type of journey.
Hi Bob, Thanks for another great video. One point not mentioned, that I was advised to do, is that if in Storage in cold weather, it might be good to empty the Boiler of water too using the Yellow lever. Your thoughts?
Yes, I always do that as part of the drain down.
Thanks Bob, we’ve just put insulation on our underslung water tanks, why on earth they don’t do this during manufacturing 🤷♀️ surely it wouldn’t add that much to the price of a new motorhome.
We are really pleased with our Taylor made silver screen cover we bought after seeing it on your channel (& mentioned we’d seen it on your vlog) 😊
Yes, that's a good idea.
Great tips. Off to Longleat between Xmas and New Year. First winter trip away. Shall be taking the Xmas day left overs as our emergency rations.
Good idea, Turkey sandwich anyone?
Hi Bob and Jenny We have just bought our first motorhome and are so excited for our first outing on the 17th Feb thanks for the tips.
whilst I'm on could I ask, following your videos on generators which would you recommend the Ecoflow, Jackery or maybe a 4Stroke especially if off gridding. Regards Paul & Ang. Southport.
I confess I'm not keen on petrol generators, especially if I have parked next to them. Both the Jackery or EcoFlow are good choices and linked to a solar panel can be charged in a environmentally friendly way.
Some good advice here Bob. Today I drove from Scotland to the Midlands. Admittedly not in the Motorhome. It was a work commitment and so I was in a car, but also watch out for the idiot drivers on Motorways. I was concerned when a driver passed me with no rear number plate at approx 90mph. I did smile when I passed the same car and the Police 10 miles further down the motorway. They'd caught him/her before they had killed somebody. xx
Yes, it is worrying when you see drivers like that, no regard for their own safety, let alone anyone else.
Bob can I ask your advice regarding carrying water in the tank. We have a winterised Hymer. Surely a winterised van can have the water in the tank even in very cold conditions? I thought that was the whole purpose of winterisation and winterised vehicles. In our case we don’t have a specific tank heater but when the gas heating is on, I can feel the warmth when I lift the lid to access the freshwater tank in the floor. Are you being a little over cautious in your assessment where winterised vehicles are concerned? Would it not make sense for us to leave the gas heating on at a low level - for example if we wanted to leave the vehicle for a few hours? p.s. we also have the truma cs system.
As I said our Motorhome isn't winterised, as the tanks are outside so yes I'm being cautious. If I had winterised tanks I would offer different advice and carrying a little water would be OK.
⬆What he said. Busy working through our list prepping for the Christmas New Year Tour. Lindsay has new boots and we are making sure all is in order.
Thanks David and Lyndsay! 😊👍
Hi Bob great information, correct me if I am wrong but I am sure the agilis Michelin are snow and mud approved and of for Europe M&S
It is quite confusing the Agilis tyres do have the M+S markings but my understanding is they are not true winter tyres, just better in mud and snow. True winter tyres should also have a three peaks mountain symbol with a snowflake on it, which the new Michelin Crossclimate tyres have.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo not sure 100% .it’s a bit awkward with weight etc which manufacture and if you should buy a set of 4 . But at least we don’t get much snow (normally) in the Uk .take care 😀
Another good tip……… if it’s foggy and you always drive with your lights on auto, the fog will give your sensors a false reading, thinking that it’s brighter than it actually is and turn off your lights. You’ll think your lights are on when they aren’t and you won’t be visible to other road users
Yes good point, that's a problem with auto lights.
Not one for me this one Captain !! Queensland, beautiful one day perfect the next ! 🇦🇺 . Although i will watch and have a giggle 😂
Would turning the water tank heaters on whilst driving prevent the water from freezing?
Yes, but you have the tank 25% full for Tank Heaters to work.
Can I suggest teddy bear bedding, I have it in my caravan, and motorhome.
Of course you can.
Are you ever tempted to go to the north of Scotland in winter.
We have been to Glasgow in February, does that count? 😊 No, I can't say we have often ventured up north in deep winter.
It’s the idiots who insist on driving with just their day riding lights on and don’t realise they have no lights on the back of their vehicles . We are always telling people. Only recently we stopped next to a young girl at a set of traffic lights. It was around 4:30 pm and every other car had lights on. Her response, it wasn’t dark enough. The mentality of these idiots never surprises me and it’s these ‘wont be told brigade’ that cause innocent people to be involved in accidents
Yes, they think they know better, unfortunately.
A little anti freeze in top tank on toilet
I don't have a flush tank, but I wouldn't want anti freeze in my toilet especially as I am using a non chemical toilet fluid in Solbio. If you have to, do not use Ethyl Glycol based antifreeze as this is toxic and harmful to wildlife.
