- This video is about How to change a GMC Sierra headlight on a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500. This should work for any of the year models from that body style.
Here's a link for the headlight I used: amzn.to/2Gwb0ia - Jak na to + styl
I tried replacing the driver's side headlight bulb on my 1980 Sierra a few months ago, took out the spare battery plate bolts but soon after gave up and took my truck to my local GMC dealer. Cost me about $170 in labor plus the bulb. I took the truck in for its' yearly state inspection and emissions a few days ago and it passed so the headlight must have been o.k. I see many cars driving around with only one headlight and will usually flash my headlights to let them know about their problem. Then yesterday I happened to see that my passenger bulb had gone South. I was considering taking my truck back to the dealer, watched several videos which explained exactly how easy it is. I took me more time to find the tools that I needed than it did to actually get the bulb out and install the new one. Your video was the best one and it gave me the confidence to save a few $ and do it on my own.
The driver side is a beast. I took out the plate and tried to take out the reservoir, but ended up just cursing a lot and bending the reservoir neck.
@@TXSuburbanHomestead know the feelings driver side I s a nitemare
@@arnoldbosch8197 It's an absolute killer. Makes me rethink my life choices...
Thank you for the information! My brother-in-law watched this to figure out how to change the light bulb (on my GMC), and it was exactly what he needed...
So happy to have helped.
Thank you. I appreciated the confidence builder prior to jumping in. All went well.
Sometimes all we need is a little confidence booster. If that's what this channel provides, awesome!
Thanks so much. My recently purchased 2008 Sierra 15 is a great vehicle......except for the bulb issues you have identified. Very helpful and appreciated.
Followed the steps and nailed it. Thank you.
Hi, I’m a 67 year old grandma. I live in Canada. Your video was very helpful. I like you hate to pay someone to do something if it can be done myself. It took me a little longer to do it than you as I cleaned everything before I put it back together. But thank you for the step by step directions. 👍🏻
Really happy to help!
Thanks man, I did it without removing anything but next time I’ll rather remove the air box rather than spending an hour trying to retrieve the bulb that kept slipping out of my fingers 😂
Thanks for the help. On the 2015 GMC Sierra they’ve moved the fluid reservoir on the drivers side-so that’s easy. The air box was a bit daunting on the passenger side, but no longer with your help. Thanks
This was very helpful.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
I just pulled what hair I do have left outta my head trying to figure this shit out...... then cane across this video. Thank you, will try again tomorrow!
This made my light changing go so much faster! Can’t believe it’s so easy.
Thanks for the note! Always good to get some good feedback.
@@TXSuburbanHomestead A Houston area customer service advisor showed me how to pull the whole air box up & push it out of the way. Got mine replaced in less then 5 minutes. Plus got $10 off with speed perks from auto parts store. Total cost $10.81. No telling how many people get taken for hundreds of $. Excellent video!
thank you that helped me a lot. I did just like you and it was so easy. Saved me $100.00!!!!!
Hey thanks man this really helped me out. I probably wouldn't have even thought about it being right there after seeing all the other videos basically saying you have to remove a bunch of stuff
Always happy to be of help.
Helped me change my kids bulb out when he came home from college. Good video. Thank you !
Perfect ! Another video I found said to remove half the front grill. Thanks for the video !
Good video , it amazes me how easy it used to be to replace a lightbulb, but anyways on the driver's side just unscrew the bolt holding the washer fluid get a bungy cord and pull it towards the top of the hood to keep it out of your way , plus you might have to remove a battery bracket which on mine is not being used 2011 GMC Sierra. Good job 👌
Good idea on the bungee. I couldn't agree more on the design philosophy changes.
Thanks you made the process look so clear and easy.
Thanks for the positive feedback. So glad to help!
Thanks, the passenger light went and a week later the drivers side went out. Going today to pickup some bulbs. I’ve watch several videos on how to replace the bulbs and yours was so much better explaining how to replace bulbs.
FWIW, I got both OEM bulbs on Amazon for just a couple bucks more than the dealer wanted for one.
I did it!!!!! All by myself with your help!! Easy, fast and I thank you!!!!!😊
Thank you for such a positive comment. So glad to help!
i was scared to try to change my own bulbs your video helped me out alot. thanks first time changing my own bulbs. maybe i got what it takes to change my own oil next
Thanks for your help. Took me about 15 mins.
Happy to help!
Thanks. You saved me a lot of time and frustration.
Thank you so much husband n son been working on this problem with sons truck n now they know what n how to do it. We all say Thank You
Thank you for making these videos!! I appreciate you!
Happy to have been of some help!
Great video, but something to know… If you do have skinnier fingers of decent length, it is totally possible to change them without doing any of this. I have done both low beams on my 2008 Sierra without having to remove anything.
This is so much easier. Thanks for the tip
I like the first part where he tells us that the company makes it hard by putting obstacles in out way.
They sure do girl. I hate that.🧐
I believe that is to encourage owners to go back to the dealer for repairs. I also believe they are designed to fail for the same reason.
Excellent instructions
Thanks for the informative video. Before I stated it looked like it was going to take every tool in the box. Design engineers obviously don't work on their own designs.
Thanks for the help, I couldn't figure out how to remove the air cleaner box on the passenger side until I watched the video
Happy to help!
Great job on explaining it, thank you
Happy to have helped
Thank you got our headlight changed
Thank you, saved me a lot of heartache!
Happy to help!
I appreciate the video its was very helpful
Thank you so much for your help!
Thank you that is a big help. Good video
Thanks for the video, helpful a great deal
When I went to change the bulbs on my ‘12 GMC, I thought that the GM engineers behind this must have lost their freaking minds. Thanks for the help
No doubt they've never changed anything except maybe the serpentine belt because that's actually easy.
Absolutely true, same for a 2009 GMC Serria, thanks for the good video and suggestions, any suggestions for the driver side.?
I’m going to replace mine with LED bulbs by Stark Lights, I did the fog lights and the wife’s CTS big difference.
I wish I had something for the driver's side. The filler neck on the wiper reservoir is always in the way. You have to completely remove the backup battery spot and then the reservoir. Mine also has a brace right behind the light that the passenger side doesn't have. If you figure something out that's easier, well done!
Excellent video
Thank you.
Good job thanks for the help easier than I thought
Happy I could help!
Thank you, I did not believe I could, but I am tired of places taking advantage of me because I'm older and I'm female. I did it!
So happy to help! Congratulations.
Saw your vedeo looks pretty easy thanx
Thanks for info lot of help
Only thing you could add would be what size torks end you used.thanks for the great video
Thanks. I looked at the problem this morning and left the hood up and went inside to think about who I will that the truck too. Not now. Do it myself. Thanks again.
Great job!
Thanks for showing how to pull filter box.
Happy to be of help.
THANK U, VERY HELPFUL
Great inforrmation. Called a national tire chain and they wanted 140.00. I watched this and did it in 20 min for 18.75
Happy to have helped
Good info
Thank you for your help you a giant help to me thank you
You're very welcome. Happy to help!
Thank You!!
WHOOP! Thank you!
Any one know how to replace a 2016 GMC SIERRA hid driver side headlight ?? I'm seeing all other trk years and also I dont need a video on the passenger side , again need help for the driver side !
Awesome thanks bro
How are those replacement bulbs? (Phillips H11 Standard Halogen) How's the performance and longevity? Thanks for sharing. Note: Shouldn't you replace both?
I've had to replace both of them and so far the replacements have lasted longer than the original OEM ones.
You saved me a bunch of money. Thank you.
Happy to help!
FYI The drivers side has the windshield washer res on that side bc the dual battery on the duramax has the cable routed their
But this is a 1500. The design of the dual battery setup on the 2500 should have no bearing on the design of the 1500.
I thinking that tithe way to go at it on the passenger side , on the drivers side if you take believe it’s an 11mm socket and take 8 bolts in that spare battery plate out and lift it out and the one in the neck of washer fill it will give you more flexibility to get your hand in takes Ten minutes !
You saved us soooooo much time and cussing!!! Thank you!
So very happy to have helped!
Thanks
How do you change the whole headlight including the wiring harness?
I honestly don't know. I've never had to do that on this truck. Sorry.
Thanks it sure help alot. Save me some cash. 👍
Yeah y’all love to make these videos doing the easy side
Did I not address the difficult side? So sorry, I should have just done the other for the sake of the video instead of just replacing the one I had out.
seems easier to just pop a few screws... unsnap the bumper and just remove the light casing. 10minutes maybe and you have access to both sides.
Now i know...thanks

I have an ‘07 Sierra. I agree, the worst designed & built piece of crap vehicle I’ve owned. I dislike payments more is the only reason I still have it. My daily driver is an ‘01 Honda Accord. The speakers still function great and the window buttons are still original, I viewed your video on those. My ‘07 POS is on it’s 4th set.
Ask me if I plan to own another GM product.
It's so funny. Since I've made these videos, it hasn't given me any trouble!! Given, I'd already replaced most of the OEM equipment...
One headlight
Just had mine changed at our dealership…my garage is full of stuff..and it was snowing out…cost me $29.80…it was worth it…took 20 minutes…I got a free coffee to….lol
Your dealership is better than mine! Last time I checked, mine was $89. Free coffee though... but I'm not a coffee drinker. lol
Drivers side is the difficult side, why dont you show a video of that as well? Please and Thank you!
No doubt about that. That one requires some removal of the panels if you don't have tiny hands. It's on the list. Thanks.
Driver side is a nitemare, image a lot of troubles with it, it just does not want to turn out, or remove connecter
If the wires don't give you enough slack they simply plug into the bulb holding module. Unplug wires and twist the bulb out, plug back in once the new bulb is in place.
VG
All the videos so far show the passenger side replacement but not the driver side!!!
If ur changing the bulb PLEASE wear latex gloves, the bulb is sensitive to oil in ur fingers!!!! Thanks.
How is it sensitive to the oil on my fingers and why is it such a big deal? I've changed both of the front lights and they've already lasted longer than the factory bulbs. What am I missing in "sensitive"?
Oils from fingers get hot and weaken the bulb... same for household bulbs. I always wipe them down with an alcohol pad just to be sure.
How about the passenger side? Lol
Drivers side*
As I just noted in my recent comment noting the wires were to tight to twist the bulb out... the wires are on a plug that simply plugs into the bulb holder. Unplug, change bulb then plug back in.
What a joke yup my urban homestead ? What is that about
Thanks for taking the time to comment
I have a 2011, and I think the easiest way to change the bulb would be to buy a Ford next time. bastardised piece of shit.
