    The amp shut down becauze that integrated circuit has built in protection for overheating and when junction are over 100°C protection shut off the current flow... after he cool down amp boot up again.. Sorry for bad english! :)

      @djsndcx Před 7 lety

      THey're Transistors, and they don't have built in protection. There's usually a thermal relay in there that will open circuit when it's too hot. If you can force it closed then it'll stay on. But that's possibly destructive. :p

      As far as i can see it using some TDA base thing as audio amplifier so that has built in over temperature protection.. you say something about some relays but i dont see any relay on that amplifire board....

    I think if you were trying to kill the thing running below rated impedance you should have used a test tone at least 3x higher than 18hz. Every car audio setup I've ever jury rigged under rated ohms has no problems whatsoever at ultra deep freqs, but will immediately trip protection/ heavily dim the lights / stall the car ( lol ) at higher bass notes. Which is intuitive as the more times per second you demand the amp drive the speaker to an arbitrary excursion, the more power will be required, as a linear function. ( all else being equal, not counting box resonant freq of the enclosure or crossover roll off ) so don't be afraid to burp some low-mid bass to stress a setup. The only exception off hand is when playing freq below a ported enclosures port freq, unless I'm mistaken.

    you should check and see how many watts that plate amplifier is putting out by testing it before the clip light turns on if it's 100 watts or less not worth it but i thought about if you used a behnegar amplifier they have some cheap ones and they make a ton of power just make sure it ain't peak power has to be rms power only

  • @bjtaudio
    @bjtaudio Před 7 lety

    The amp has thermal protection, it also unlikely you will be able to damage the amp as it has SOA protection built into the chips, it will current limit and/or shutdown on overload.

  • @MarkFlower99

    is it 230v or 110v were your from because the switch on the back of the sub is on 230v DC that might be the reason for the current traveling though unless your countrys voltage is 230v then i have no idea aha

    Does clipping an amplifier well below the subwoofers capability actually damage the subs? Or do they just play the clipping with no real trouble?
    Just asking because upgrading from a small amp and clipping a little to a big amp which doesn't clip has made my subs sound better than ever. I thought subs could play a clipped signal just not at high volumes?

  • @travis4798
    @travis4798 Před 7 lety +1

    Always a good idea to run a sacrificial automotive type incandescent bulb inline with your speakers as protection. You'll have to convert the voltage and watts to determine the right type of bulb to get. If you hammer on the subs the bulb will change the impedance and keep them from blowing. My Realistic Pro 4,000 monitors has these in them, if you hammer on them you can actually see them glow. Also keeps the DC from killing them.

    • @djsndcx

      Paul Botirla why are you so confused about that? Why would a subwoofer amplifier not be allowed to use class AB? Most subwoofers use the Class AB style. Unless they're higher power. Class AB is incredibly cheap at low power (150w and less)

    IMO just about all consumer electronics have fuses that are oversized to the point that the most expensive component will smoke out to protect the fuse from blowing! Whenever possible, I will replace the stock fuse with one that is about 20% LESS amp rating. I noticed that you left the amp laying upside down or having the heat sink flat out instead of upright like it was in it's original enclosure. The fins should be vertical to promote convection cooling!

  • @KuntalGhosh
    @KuntalGhosh Před rokem

    U should get a heater and use that as a test load than using a speaker. Buy two cheap meters. Set one to monitor the dc at speaker output. And current with another one. As the heaters resistance is pretty steady u will know how much power it is making just by using the ohms law. 3kw 110v heaters are close to 4ohms.
    This amp did not blow up cus u didn't drive it into clipping for long enough. Clipping a speaker does kills it so use big dummy loads. Maybe invest in the amplifier dyno from smd.

      Lots of wrong terms being used, but the jist is there. It's magnetism. The wire as well as the coil are inductors. One is an electromagnet and the other is also an electromagnet, but reverse phase.

  • @djsndcx

    the ground wire going up and down was magnetism from the toroidal. Shitty toroidal! they're inventions that are supposed to negate that.

    • @paulBTR
      @paulBTR Před 6 lety

      Not realy. That black wire was gone up and down because as the amp put that 18 Hz and when the current pass to that loop along side the magnetism generated by the primery side of the transformer, the magnetic field generated by that to make that wire to move..
