    Baths are a hugely important part of keeping your guinea pig clean but above all healthy.
    Do guinea pigs need baths? Why yes they do! At the very least 2 times a year.
    So guinea pigs are not “self cleaning”? No!
    Does a bath make a guinea pigs skin dry? No it doesn't, in fact regular bathing prevents dry skin flakes.
    Does giving your guinea pig a bath give them an ear infection? No not at all.
    Does bathing your guinea pig give them an upper respiratory infection?
    No it doesn't but make sure you do not leave your guinea pig damp, blow dry really good till the coat is dry.
    Does bathing my guinea pig lower her immune system? The exact opposite applies actually. You want to keep your guinea pig clean in order for her to stay healthy.
    Is it true that you never should wash your guinea pigs face? Not true, you for sure want to wash her face.

      You are really doing a very nice work and the way you are caring them , I mean , for them you don't reduce the quantity what they need , it dosen't matter whether you are grooming him or her into bathing or make them sleep or feed them , I think , you are doing this work in a much better way , and I think , for cats also you will do the same , and I don't have any problem if u don't like cats . But , I don't hate this animal , actually I didn't wanted to know more about this animal , because I thought that there are only some people who know about these , and don't care too much like cats and dogs , but you r doing great .

      I'm confused. My pet doctors said never bath them if not necessary because guinea Pigs are prone to get bladder infections if you do anything wrong here. Also it stresses them, because it's not a natural behaviour for them to bathe in water - wild guinea pigs don't bathe either. They have this eye liquid they use tho clean themselves
      Usually when I see other guinea pig channels recommend bathing they have really dirty, mostly rescue guinea pigs that haven't been taken care of well before, so they are used to bathe them because in that case it's necessary if the guinea pig can't help themselves anymore. But I was told if you keep their cage clean and your guinea pig is able to self-clean properly it's absolutely not necessary.

    • @juliemcgugan1244
      @juliemcgugan1244 Před rokem +3

      In the wild, they are always on fresh grass and soil, though and seldom on soiled bedding. And they are vulnerable to the Esther elements. What happens in the wild when they are exposed to rain? Do they get respiratory and bladder infections because they are exposed to water? I don’t think so. I don’t think a bath every few months will do them any harm, so long as they are rinsed throughly and not left damp. And I don’t think water, even with a small animal shampoo dissolved in it, ever caused bladder infections or UTIs. I would really have reservations about my vet if that were the advice they were giving me. That sounds very suspect.

Do lots of reading, watch a wide variety of channels who cover Guinea pig care, but take it with a grain of salt, because there will probably be some misinformation sprinkled in, here and there. You will develop a knack for deciding what is and isn’t true. This channel is particularly good for breaking the myths and promoting good care info for this species.

I also do the same with my cat to keep both mats and my allergies at bay. Everyone says both species don't need baths as it is bad for them. But I totally agree with Saskia that it is something that is needed a few times a year 😊 I have relatives that come visit my home with severe animal allergies and they go home with no symptoms.

    Why do people have so many problems with their guineapigs? Do they not put them outside in a nice little shady patch with a little water bowl to bath themselves? All three of my guinea pigs lived to approximately 8 years old. They always had shiny hair no clots or stinky ears or whatever. The only thing i had to do was taking care of their nails. (clipping once in a while in winter because they were inside and could not smirgle them off) I hope people one day will only buy pets when they are able to care properly for them and i am happy that you rescue people are helping these poor creatures so much.

    • @jaimevosganian3479
      @jaimevosganian3479 Před 3 lety

      Rain doesn't have soap, and wild guinea pigs and domestic guinea pigs are incredibly different, they evolved from the Montane guinea pig, which are veryyyyyyyy different. They can get wet but doing it to often is harmful. It stresses them and is really just unnecessary, normal guinea pigs only need full baths when a vet says so, never any other time. Butt baths of course are fine as well as cleaning male parts but not full baths like the video.

      @@syoncav Uhh... They are self cleaning. You shouldnt bathe your guniea pigs
      Guinea pigs are known to be an extremely clean creatures who groom themselves very often. Therefore, you rarely need to give them a bath. Please do not bathe your guinea pig unless it is necessary. Unnecessary baths will result in dry fur coats and skin. They can also get really anxious during the process, resulting in biting and nipping. I haven't bathed my guinea pig and she's fine dispute having long fur, of course she gets butt matts but all you have to do is trim them or brush them out. Please do not bathe your guinea pig unless instructed by a professional. I bet this guinea pigs trust with it's owner is horrible, and there can be other risks too. Guinea pigs are great at keeping themselves clean, but you might have to bathe yours if it has an infection or abscess. Only bathe your guinea pig if you absolutely need to so you don’t cause it any unneeded stress
      Edit: Her reasoning in the first clip is hilarious, "Do you bathe your dog? I bet you do"
      A dog and a guinea pig are two completely different things with different levels of processing. You can't compare a guinea pig to a dog and expect everyone to immediately believe you. They don't "Have" to have baths. I know this woman may think she's an expert but I don't believe so, I may be wrong, but I don't believe this and I will go on to not bathing my guinea pig to save her not only her health, but her and my sanity. PLEASE ONLY BATHE IF NEEDED!

    She was definitely one of those people that was like “NEVER DO ANYTHING THAT COULD MAKE YOUR PIG UPSET” which is true to an extent.... part of the responsibility of owning an animal and taking proper care of them. In order to properly care for them sometimes you have to do things they don’t like. My cats hate going to the vet and get upset and stressed. Does that mean I shouldn’t take them? No!
