0:00:00 - Part One 0:33:55 - Part Two 1:06:09 - Part Three November 08, 1976 Albert Hall (Nottingham) Edgar Froese, Chris Franke, Peter Baumann. Tangerine Tree Volume 1.
I recorded this concert using a Sony TC153SD cassette deck with a Technics single point stereo microphone, recorded onto a TDK SA cassette. Always considered as one of my best ever live recordings. I always enjoy listening to this every year on the anniversary of the concert recording, as I remember the dates when they come around each year!
hpvrider, superb recording and my all-time favourite concert of the entire Tangerine Tree and Leaves series. In fact I bought this many years before the TT version, when the Me-Rad bootleg came out. Which was also based on your recording or so it seems. Too bad your batteries ran out at the end...but you managed to capture 80 minutes of what I consider their best gig ever! Hats off to you, sir!
Mon Dieu! SO many thanks to you Man! What recording equipment did you use? And HOW did you get it into the concert hall? No guards? Where did you sit/stand and place the speakers? What length could you record? (Several tapes maybe). Energy source? Such an heroic contribution to "the future"!!! THANK YOU! And of course Richard W! AND Tadream Discussion List! I have tried to 'investigate' if the pure "cymbalic" percussion (and sometimes drum) sounds were played live on stage by Chris Franke or if they were recorded and looped somehow? Can you remember? I was only +4 years in 1976. Therefore I am SO glad you provided the opportunity to re-listen. 🙏
I was there at the gig at the Albert Hall, Nottingham. It was the first time I saw TD live and it was truly awesome. The stage was crammed from left to right with Moog modular synths and all three played with their backs to the audience. I'm sure this was the time they had brought out the 'Stratosphere' album. The sound was pure quality, just like a super hifi. Seen them 3 times more since then, all at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham. When they went digital, they lost something very special. TD got me interested in synths in 1976 and now own a studio full.
i was also there at this gig in Nottingham and also the first time seeing tangerine dream live if anyone remembers radio Trent (no longer in existence) recorded this gig and broadcast it in full on the Jeff cooper rock show which at the time ran from 8pm to midnight, a four hour rock show in the 70's. seen them live many times since. what a band.
Just another long time fan who appreciates those who work to pass on the legacy of the golden age of techno rock, as well as the geniuses who created these masterpieces.
And part 2 from 40' to 44'... Great Echoes of THE CALL. And after, Echoes of RICHOCHET2 one year later. And from the first minute the Embryo of something of '77 American tour. But here in a unic e fantastic version. Great concert. Thanks for ever Mr. RICHARD W.
These fan recorded concerts are a lasting legacy of just how great TD were in their prime which was the early to mid seventies I'm a little too young to fully appreciate and see them live at their best.so it's great to listen now, this Nottingham gig is superb wonderful sequencers modulators and loop effects.R.I.P. Edgar.
Ditto - I was nine in 76 - my first encounter was would have to wait till I was 15 and some cat sold me his copy of Alpha Centuri. My Friend got Rubycon - had we got anything else I doubt I'd be writing this now - a week off 50 and still a fan of that Early Golden Age. For me it was all over by 78, Anyone remember the Merad bootleg of tis gig ? God Bless the Tangerine Tree for giving us Saint Quen 73 et al,
I'm going to go out on a huge limb here and say that this has to be THE BEST live recording of 70's era TD I've ever heard! They were absolutely on fire at this show! I love the cute little Hard Day's Night in part three - lol.
I recorded this concert using a Sony TC153SD cassette deck with single point stereo microphone. Always considered as one of my best ever live recordings. Another one of mine is Pink Floyd Earls Court 6 Aug 1980
This is your recording? Nice one, pity Sony couldn't use your example in their advertising (on account of illegality) they would have sold thousands more decks.
Yes I recorded this show. I also recorded Sheffield City Hall 29th October 1974, the first time I had ever seen TD. That recording wasn't as good as this one as it was using previous equipment.
The Tangerine Trees are meant to be shared, not sold. But this is available officially on the Bootleg Box Set Volume 2 ... but that box set is not easy to find. www.voices-in-the-net.de/the_bootleg_box_set_vol_2.htm
It's a pity that the younger listeners today are in for instant gratification, they probably wont make it to about 08:00 minuets in, when the magic really starts to happen, and shows why Tangerine Dream WERE the best improv band ever.
It may be unfair to single out the younger listeners... I have attempted to educate my Bujinkan bretheren to the fully immersive qualities of TD for years, to no avail-Kimatsudo.
Pat Sylvester Sorry, you're right, I should have said to everyone, any age, give it a chance to work it's magic, and, the foreplay's just as essential as the main event.
wtc175 i agree with this !! today is alost many years i was thoughts like you have here . i dont know , i realy dont know and this is make me cry cause the beauty ... This is THE Century of Beauty !!!!! in music and i never but never get fatigue in listen to this music
To have actually been there would really have been something, I have met people who were at York Minster, I would have been nine at the time, and would not hear of them until I was 15. This concert came to me as a concert CD called Merad, years after that - and then came the TT's - I love this Concert !!
Tangerine Tree is a collective of people with recordings of Tangerine Dream dating back to 1973 and all through the 70s and 80s. There are literally over one thousand recordings.
Remember Edgar W. saying he stopped taking drugs in 1976, hallucinogens and caffeine, the lot, a survival thing, he said. I fear it showed. Psychedelic art and actually being psychedelic at the time... Still, not as bad as X Factor, tho
is it just me or does the one in the mid 30's time wise sound like Pink Floyd's Echoes? I mean I recognize it to an extent....from one of the tracks on Stratosfear, it just has an "Echoes" feel to it in this version.
@@thegreentimesartstudios3327 from 37:20 - 41:00, this assumption was 5 years ago, I think now it resembles a combination of the 4th part "Celestial Voices" of the Pink Floyd track "A Saucerful of Secrets" and parts of "Echoes".
@@JayTyrus yeah it does a little ,who did they both steal it off eh ,I sometimes play something on the keys and stop because it sounds like echoes ,I try and keep everything to one chord now
Probably just down to their management being lazy and maybe the albums sales there were a bit slow to start with.I was around in 1973 when they they started to break through in the UK and it helped that the label boss was English and he,Richard Branson & John Peel managed to spread the word.
The same about Norway.... They've waited until Aug. 2018 for the first Norwegian gig ever!!! 50 years++...... And then it was in a way too late. No more boss around. RIP Edgar !!

A monument for you. Thanks also for the Next Generations.
🖖 Krell Music.
Brilliant. Great work and a legendary tape it has become.
Tip top respect to you for allowing us to feel the analog emotions captured that year.
This is Tangerine Dream at their best.
I agree. This one is special indeed.
I usually listen to this recording on the 8th November each year to celebrate on the anniversary of when I recorded this gem.

Saw the Tangs three days earlier to this gig at the Free Trade Hall Manchester 5th November 1976.A never to be forgotten event.

GLAD I GOT TO SEE YOU LIVE = YOU'LL ALWAYS LIVE ON HERE EDGAR.
I'LL MISS YOU !
Part One is amazing! In my opinion one of the best live pieces they've done during that decade.
I would agree with that. Simply the zenith. That first half hour to open the concert of all TD concerts..
RICHARD W.
Your not the only one. That was Amazing ! You hear one of the guys close by the recorder say right at the end during the applause. It's so true.
Ich höre TD seit meinem 17. Lebensjahr 1977......die Faszination hat nie aufgehört....Gänsehaut beim Hören...
This is absolutely brilliant. I didn't see them until the Cyclone tour in 78.
Totally agree about 8 minutes in, it is magical. This music has an amazing ability to make the world feel okay again.
I'D SAY A LITTLE MORE THAN EIGHT MINUTES HERE , BUT YOUR SPOT ON LAD !!!
Their music is like a tapestry. So beautifully woven together.
The great electronic act!🤘
A superb gem of what was.
Brilliant stuff.
You can't beat the feeling of that sequencer beating through you when they played live.
wow this is incredible!
I love the mid-70's stuff.
Marvelous! Thanks so much, Richard! =)
This is probably the TD concert i like the most
This is phenomenal!

This and their show at Palais des Sport (spelling?) in Paris the same year have got to be their two best live performances.
I saw then at Newcastle City hall, ('76), York Minster, Leeds Uni, Portsmouth Guild Hall & Harrogate Town Hall.
Thank you, Kal Zakath for all these recordings of Peter and the era of his input-Kimatsudo

It's a live recording so live room ambience is to be expected but what a performance!
It is possible that some parts of the piano intro of Part Two are "covers" from an old piece? Look at 0:35:30 .. this sounds so familar to me..
It is a version of the end of Monolight that would appear on the Encore album.
The final part of Invisible Limits (Stratosfear album)
Perhaps Part 3 is ''Patrolling Space Borders'' ???
Was this taken from the 2005 re-release?
Is it legal to download this to apple music if yes how could it be done I can not find this album anywhere
Try playing it on here and recording the output from your headphones to an external recorder, then load to computer and burn to a CD.
