Never understood the hate either. There is a hat, a whip, and harrison ford doing Indy stuff. Nice video.
I liked it and enjoyed the alien theme as it’s been a long time interest on mine. I can’t think of another movie that even dared to go this route and do even half as well as they did. It’s not the best movie in the world but neither were the others. The point of India Jones movies isn’t to be shiny and to have perfect writing and special effects, it’s to be an enjoyable adventure, something comfortable interesting and fun. I thought it did fine in every aspect, however my type of fun is to poke a little fun at what ever I’m watching. It doesn’t necessarily hold up logically (you can’t escape a nuke in a freezer) but I do give it points for creativity and actually creating an enjoyable story out of alien theories that actually do exist. I kinda thought giving Indie a son was possibly to showing that Indie could have started out just like greaser boy. Which gave me hope that if they ever did another including his kid then maybe the kid would get some character development.
I don’t know, I feel people get caught up in trashing something because it’s trendy to do so and don’t really let them selves enjoy things. If we pick apart everything then there is nothing left to enjoy. It could be junk but if so it was just my type of junk! 😁✌️
Definitely some great thoughts here! It has its good and bad but something doesn’t have to be amazing to be enjoyable! Glad to hear someone else also didn’t hate the aliens too!
I'm one of a few thousands of Indiana Jones fans who also had an unpopular opinion that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was actually that good. I saw this film when I was 8-9 years old, didn't know there was the fourth film and I saw this on USA Network back in 2010, and I liked it and I really enjoyed it to this day. However, even though I still liked Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I'm honestly had doubtly worries about the fifth film, Dial of Destiny coming this year.
Yeah I know
And behold dial of destiny was the true terrible one.
@@jamesalp2013yeah
I loved Indiana jones and the Crystal skull 💀 that's all I got to say
I just watched Dial of Destiny and it was truly awful. So I rewatched Kingdom and it was like a breath of fresh air. It feels like an Indiana Jones movie that had some damn respect for the character
I think Indy 5 will make people reevaluate how people feel about this one
its a guilty pleasure but "You're a teacher?" and "PART-TIME!" is one of the greatest line deliveries of all time.
2:53 I think some people hate temple of doom but there is an audience who likes it I definitely think kingdom of crystal skull might have warmer reviews when the new Disney film comes out
It's a wonderful move, I don't understand the hate either
Probably because when people had to compare
@@watchforever1724 comparing is useless unless it's science

My friend and I really enjoyed Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls as well as the SW prequels. We never got what all the hate was about., Sure as hell was better than Dial of Destiny.
I just saw Dial of Destiny and rewatched Crystal Skull. I have to say CS was more fun than Dial.
This movie is 10 times better than the new one. I love this movie a lot . The new one didn’t have enough cool Indi moments in it for me like this one did.
I’m going to see it tomorrow. I also think Crystal Skull gets a bad rap it doesn’t even remotely deserve. People acted like a gopher that was in less than a minute of the movie was the biggest deal ever. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not perfect. But it’s still a worthy entry.
I’m guessing Dial won’t be as good since it’s more of a corporate product that’s been pumped out for money instead of the result of an artist with a vision making something. I hope I’m wrong.
@@yajy4501 I will say the first 20 minutes of the movie are so epic for an Indi fan. Just classic Indiana Jones.
@@thecompilationchannel2633I’m trying to go into it with an open mind. Thanks for the heads up 👍
For me the first 40mins of Crystal Skull are the most rewatchable and interesting of the entire franchise - it's a fantastic piece of visual storytelling that is almost too innovative and sophisticated for its own good.
The thing is is that in the case TLC it was almost 20 years removed from KOTCS meaning it would have been appropriate to have been in the 50’s not to mention it was all the rage of saucers and aliens and Red Scare speak so it in that way makes that argument kind of irrelevant.
He’s actually not as old as people like to thinking crystal skull because in real life doing last crusade, Harrison was 47 almost 50 so he’s really not that old in crystal skull whatsoever
Considered the worst till Dial of Destiny
I didn’t think Shia was that bad. I do think the South Park guys were overreacting with how they saw the film. But they were pushing things to the point of absurdity. At the time, I was pissed off at them for doing that. But in all honesty I think Crystal Skull is as enjoyable escapist entertainment as the James Bond movies that are not fondly remembered like A View To A Kill or Man With The Golden Gun.
South Park is satire so it’s not supposed to be taken seriously and honestly I got the vibe from it that they were making fun of the peoples reactions to the movie than presenting there own
Great video!
I was wondering what happened to make me hate this movie and I think the big determining factor might be that the ending was bad.
I hate to test this by rewatching all of them but its a good theory.
The other Indiana Jones movies really nailed the endings, which made the corny or unrealistic scenes feel less relevant.
But the aliens felt poorly done and that meant you left the theater with a bad taste in your mouth… and that caused people to fixate on the problems rather than focus on what they enjoyed.
I remember hating everything from the jungle onward.
Really and genuinely enjoyed the video, love the self-effacing humor.
Sorry, this post is going to be long.
There was too much of a goofiness to Crystal Skull whereas there was such a level of dignity to the first 3 movies that Lost Ark was actually nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, grown adults at the time they came out enjoyed them almost as much as kids did.
Lucas even wanted Indy to be seen as America's take on James Bond, as a strong male character.
Temple of Doom was seen as the least of the original 3 before Crystal Skull, but it has its defenders (including me). As annoying as Willie was, it made sense for the character to act that way in the situation because she was so prissy.
Effects wise, people hated the entire jungle chase scene and just did not buy into the nuking the fridge scene.
Even with the fantasy element of the macguffin object at the center, a lot of stunts mostly made sense from a standpoint of reality in the original 3 or didn't drastically stand out to people. The Nazis melting scene was stunning and horrifying, something people hadn't seen before and the plane in Last Crusade was only one small shot that looked bad, not an entire sequence.
The original Star Wars trilogy has a similar dignity in writing. Lucas went really goofy in the prequels although the flow of the story mostly made sense (unlike the Disney sequels). I'm happily shocked Lucas said no to Spielberg's mechanical arm idea, the macguffin is the only part that should be fantasy, the Indiana Jones universe shouldn't be like the MCU.
People had more trouble buying into aliens because the past stories dealt with elements of real life history. There were places mentioned in the Bible and other religious texts that actually existed. And that's besides the fact that these stories have been handed down for centuries, the idea of aliens is still a relatively new idea to people.
Ultimately and personally, I see Crystal Skull the way I see other campy pieces of entertainment, fun but doesn't hit that transcendent sweet spot the first 3 movies hit.
Thanks so much for the compliment and well thought out reply! You make some great points! I mostly agree with you, and I am coming from a place of devils advocate for crystal skull so I give it a lot of credit in the video. But I do genuinely feel that it gets too much hate. They originals are better, but I think we can enjoy crystal skull for what it is as well. Like the prequels. Like you said, fun albeit campy entertainment.
@@thisweeksmovie Thanks man.
Yeah I agree
Yeah idk i thought it sucked haha good vid tho man pretty funny keep it up
Its a much better movie than Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker and Solo. Is it a great movie like Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade? Heck no. But its actually worth watching again compared to the newest Star Wars movies. The one thing i dont like is how goofy they made the Red Menace after how sadistically evil they made the NSDAP
I think the comparison would be better if you said rise of skywalker and last Jedi because tbh solo wasn’t that bad.
It will be a masterpiece compared to Dial of Destiny
Hi how are you?
Good video. While Crystal Skull gets a lot more hate than it deserves, I do think it is more problematic than the prequels, probably just because Lucas takes Star Wars more seriously than he does Indiana Jones, and because he didnt have to make compromises with another major creative force that resulted in an odd premise that wasnt as strong (inter-dimensional beings as opposed to regular aliens).
Sorry but some of these comparisons are bullshit. The way the money is used in Raiders in contrast to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are totally different. One is a real trained money while in the other film they are full cgi used in a unrealistic scenario. The bad special effect in Last Crusade lasts only 5 seconds while Kingdom have whole sequences full of downright terrible cgi. Also Short Round is still great. While Kingdom may not be as horrible as some people say it's still the weaker film compared to its predecessors.
Lol
