A good sale tactic. Not only does it hit the nostalgic side for some, but it peaks interest in non-watch enthusiasm which hits perfect for g shock because Casio & G-Shock are a great product for someone that wants a no thrills watch to just wear and use. The product team behind this release were very smart

I'm a bit late to the game, but I just purchased this watch after watching John and Ed on watch CZcams. I was going to buy a standard GSK but elected for JMLEDGSK. For me, the watch is like a secret handshake that only certain people will know of when they see it. JM is a watch conesuer, and for me, having this watch feels a little special. Very happy

Took me back there Mr Mayer! I also grew up wearing G shock and playing Casio keyboards 🎹 of all sorts as my dad had a pawn shop back then .. wonderful times
just grabbed the second version of this watch!
I have been rocking the DW6900 for more then a decade. It had accompanied me all the way from my Military basic training, to the Everest Base Camp at Nepal. This is one piece that will NEVER leave my collection.
I got one!! So pumped. Love the story, love the meaning, love the artist. That's everything I want in a watch. I wonder if they will release the number made... Can't wait for the first person to recognize it on my wrist...

While not my cup of tea, I applaud Hodkinee for once for not coming out with a special edition that's like $15k
They’ve collaborated with swatch multiple times though.
They've done that before. The thing to look at is not the price but the markup they make on a model. Whether it's a 15K or 100$ watch, there is always a nice Hodinkee markup on the price compared to the mainstream model.

Except in the case of Hodinkee you have the markup of the original product + the markup of Hodinkee putting their name and design on it. It's your decision to determine if that's worth it or not

Mine arrived this week and I'm thrilled! Hodinkee shipping time was incredible... three days and it was delivered halfway across the world. It's a pity it was stuck in Customs for over three weeks. Love the watch and JM!

Wish it were a square.... a g is the prefect watch for the times. Since no one is wearing formal work clothes at the moment and working from home a g is perfect. Casio should pay Mayer to consult for versions of their other styles.

These guys here complaining about having to watch a few minutes of a musician talking about the vintage keyboard from his own collection that inspired his own watch collab from the same company before the actual watch like that was unexpected or something.

It's not about being a snob, it's refusing to be downright shafted. This G-shock is just a different color template, there's not even a signed caseback. Lazy and uninspired.

Each their own but it IS a signed caseback even if you choose to not consider it one.

too bad they do limited on everything and so they sell out immediately. very annoying. But kudos to John Mayer for designing what I think is the best looking G-Shock I've seen. I just purchased an OMJM Martin and after owning well over 100 guitars in my 50 years of playing music/30 plus professionally, this guitar is the most well thought out and attention to detail I've had. The man has excellent taste.

As a normal customer, I got mine before they sold out, fair and square, no funny stuff. Limited edition means not everyone will get one, I'm sorry to hear that you missed out. But I can tell you firsthand that it didn't go to resellers and bots
@@chradchewns2860 I have no problem at all that not all customer's can get one but when you know that probably 75% of the sale's are reseller's its frustrating. It ruins the hobby. I'm pumped that you got one congrats!

And it is always frustrating to see people who actually want the product to have to pay more later, just because of some guy who would rather make a quick buck. I share that with you. That was really interesting, thanks. The G-Shock pays tribute well, especially the colors. The one respect, however, where the tribute fails, IMO, is size. For a keyboard, that SK-5 is a compact thing where the watch is not. It's huge. Would that CASIO issue something (or HODINKEE commission something) with the same colors yet a lower-profile, smaller shape/design.

I wanted the Yamaha DX-7 in 1987. Never got near it. Managed to save $100.
