  • This unfortunately isn't our usual upbeat video. In todays picture, we will be tearing down the classic 1966 Chevy C10 truck. How bad is the rust? Can it be saved, or is this one too far gone, even for Kyle?

    Washboard roads are a break-even deal. As the rust falls out, structural integrity weakens but there's less weight to support. Now, looking at it holistically (everything is connected to everything else), you would think it's a win (better gas mileage). But I've never been able to prove it because at that point I'm afraid to take it past 1st gear.

    You got going for second. I have no where near your skills, but I "saved" a 1966 3/4 ton Dodge pickup years ago by just welding in plates everywhere. I did have to get a replacement cab and the guy at the junk yard told me that the 'replacement cab' was "junk". I bought it anyway because it was better than the crap I had on the truck.. It was a pretty good truck with a slant six, posi diff and split rims. "Nice and safe". It got down the road and could haul wood.

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  Před rokem

      Yeah this truck definitely could have been saved by using the plate welding method, I'd probably just do that if I was keeping it for myself. They've gotten to the point where they are worth enough to justify spending money on replacement panels though

    Log ago, I had a '64 that was in almost mint condition. It needed an engine rebuild, but I drove it for a couple of years simply by running 40W oil and buying eight spark plugs at a time. It had a 292, and by the time I had changed #3 twice, it was time for the whole set again. But the body was solid, and the interior was in great shape. I miss that truck sometimes. I'm looking forward to the results as this series continues. All the best to you and the cats, and especially Old Scummy. .

    If you felt comfortable letting us know a ball park amount, for the replacement panels. To fix that cab that could be helpful in deciding whether to tackle a project in that shape. Besides the real cost is the skilled labor to install them and make it right. I really like the real world videos that most channels don't show, they throw money at a new bed side and a few minutes later it's on and aligned.

    • @CarterAutoRestyling
      @CarterAutoRestyling  Před rokem +1

      The cost of parts really depends on where you buy the parts from and what part of the world you are in.
