- In this video I'll build the StewMac Sun Fuzz Pedal kit! This pedal is the same circuit as the Analogman Sun Face and I will compare the two pedals to see how close they really are!

I've built a few tube amps and restored/repaired/modded many. Pedals are fun as well. Once you start building, it's hard to stop. Easy rabbit hole to go down! Keep at it!
I’m kinda hooked!
Wait until you start making amps. Downside is your playing suffers as it consumes all your time ;)
@@optilude this is very true!
I built that same Sun Fuzz kit . Super easy with the great instructions from Stew Mac. I think your paint job looks good and it sure sounds great. Fun video!
I started doing this when I moved from digital modelling to all analogue. I found a small UK operation called Jeds Peds with a really wonderful community of DIY pedal builders and made a full board (13 pedals total) over a few months. Tons of fun and some really amazing kits. It’s a great hobby both while building and playing them.
What a great video, Corey! The perfect blend of a little playing, a little technical information, a little product information, and a very excellent comparison. Thanks and well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I haven’t built pedals myself since I was about 16 (10 years ago), this video makes me want to jump back in and try again
I had a blast building this pedal and hoping to do more. Has anyone else built a pedal kit?
I been building kits all year. Right now I'm breadboarding an original circuit. Fingers crossed
I built the Two Kings pedal last year. Turned out great. If you decide to try that one I have some advice. Sorry I missed the zoom session.
I built StewMacs Tremelo pedal, turned out great. Tried the 2 kings after that. It didn’t turn out. I was bummed about that. Some of their directions are wrong. But even after trying to correct it, still didn’t work. But StewMac was helpful in trying to troubleshoot my problems. The fuzz pedal looks MUCH simpler
I've built 4 so far and really had a blast building them. Already have several other kits waiting to be built.
Sounds great! Good job man!
Thx!
You need a stash and goatee logo on that bad boy! Sounds good!
Funny you choose this topic, because last week I spent some time investigating in building some devices by myself.... So again: Thumbs up, Corey! Interesting Video and a good approach! Cheers.
It’s fun. Give it a go!
Sounds great
Sounds like a keeper .
Haha! I just bought one a couple weeks ago. Haven't delved into it yet.
Good turnout❤
Dude, I could feel myself tensing up watching this, I could just imagine how frustrated I'd get trying to do this.
It sounds great! Your 335 is pretty nice, too. Does a Bigsby require heavier gauge strings for tuning stability, or is that a myth?
Thx! I use 10s and it’s totally fine. I love bigsbys
Hello from Montana!
Hello there!
👍🏽👍🏽 ... ✌🏽
Magnifying reading glasses from Amazon or Walmart is what I have used for years as an electronic tech, not better but very inexpensive.
Great tip!
Sounds great, man. So you know nothing about diodes but sure can pontificate about the various elemental sound signatures of respective transistors....😂
Ha! Um sure! I still don’t know what they technically do. That’s why I have pedal designing friends!
My experience building the ghost pedal (the Klon overdrive) was unpleasant. More than 100 solders, and you absolutely have to use a magnifier because the diodes are tiny. So, eye fatigue. And what the manual does not mention is that one can't go back to fix anything without breaking apart what was already built. It's a one-way path. So when I finished and plugged the pedal in (LED works, great!) and got ZERO sound from it, I was stuck unless I wanted to break apart some of the solders and possibly damage the wiring. Which might have not fixed it.
Experiment over. Into the garbage it went.
what a shame. Stew Mac has great support and guarantee you get a good, finished product. I built the 2Kings and it wouldn't work. After a few troubleshooting emails, they sent me a brand new kit. Turned out to be a defective component so the new kit works great.
@@sparksnguitarsmike I do not want to diss on StewMac. Their service was fine--a tech looked at a photo of the board I had pulled together and noted some weak solder joints. But devoting more (somewhat painful) hours to getting a pedal to work was not how I wanted to spend my time. (I put out $79 for a Nobel's ODR--which is less than the cost of the ghost drive kit and was already built---and it sounds great.) I did learn that the guts of these pedals are lots and lots of diodes. So, some educational value in that but less than I was hoping for. The GuitarGeek also had issues building the ghost drive, which one can watch here czcams.com/video/Oz3StNMLZ_c/video.html
Fuzzz meh
Very interesting
