    As a sound guy, I can't tell you how amazing it feels to roll up to a show and the band just sends you tails and they're running their own IEMs. No stage monitor noise, and no worrying about monitors, which means I get to put 100% of my energy into how you actually sound. It's absolutely amazing. So, on behalf of all sound guys, thank you

      Trying to figure this out for my band - if we build one of these, are we expected to roll up with mics and everything, or is the idea that the FOH sound engineer will be micing everything up and plugging into our system? Trying to figure out if I should invest in a big system like this or just a wireless IEM system that goes right from the sound person

    • @demontrav1918
      @demontrav1918 Před rokem +1

      @Noah Weinstein If you're playing at normal venues then you don't need to have it all (might be different if you're doing weddings or something). If you're typically showing up to shows and the sound engineer is running your stage monitors, then you can just buy each band member a unit and the sound engineer will literally just unplug their monitor send and plug it into your IEM unit. Very important though, make sure the venue/engineer knows BEFORE the show that you're using IEMs. Can be a massive headache if you don't tell them until soundcheck

      @@demontrav1918 That's so helpful thank you so much! Now I just have to decide if we should build a whole rig (splitting the signal and all) or if we just wanna get the wireless IEMs that the engineer can just send mixes out to... any thoughts?

      @demontrav1918 Před rokem +2

      @Noah Weinstein I don't recommend investing in the whole rig unless you have someone with the experience to operate it because an engineer is gonna expect you to be the expert on your gear. Buying an IEM unit for each band member is a good bet

    I have recently set up a pretty similar rig, but I'm using the X32R's USB card instead of an additional audio interface. I previously had a separate interface, but now I don't need to. You can just route the card in your DAW to feed multiple tracks to the X32. You do need to use some of the outputs on the X32 to feed the splitter for the FOH, but I can get away with using the Aux outs for that, while still having 5 stereo IEM mixes.

    • @michaelguevarez
      @michaelguevarez Před rokem +1

      Not enough outs/aux outs on the X32 (considering stereo mixes, all our guitar lines and DI lines), so we needed additional outs and ins for our setup!

    • @OfFormerFame
      @OfFormerFame Před rokem

      @@michaelguevarez Yeah with the laptop running the amp sims your mileage may vary. I'm using a Helix Rack with can fortunately output the guitar and bass to both the X32 and the FOH patchbary simultaneously using the XLR, 1/4, and separate 1/4 "Send" outputs. I have a couple Sends available so I'm experimenting going to guitar/
      bass cabinets like you're doing. I can drop the Send blocks in the patch before the cab sim, which is at the end.
      I'm using 10 outs for the stereo monitor mix and have 4 Aux outs still available to pass through the keyboard and backing tracks from the USB outputs. Everything else is going through a splitter or it's own separate outs to the FOH patchbay.

  • @RodrigoPiccoli
    @RodrigoPiccoli Před 7 měsíci +1

    Great video! one question: With this splitter if you are sending phantom power to a mic the other console (foh or monitor) doesn’t need to send 48v too right? just one end needs to turn the phantom ? thanks!

    • @ENOXband
      @ENOXband  Před 6 měsíci

      Unless you’re linking mixers, they would need to apply phantom on their end! Have had few moments where FOH saw our tom mics quiet until they turned phantom on their end.

    Does this get a little much if you are an opening band and the other bands have the same if not similar set up? Front of house would have to unplug and plug all mics and into each bands splitter snake for each set. Have you guys gotten complaints about that?

    • @ENOXband
      @ENOXband  Před rokem

      Honestly the majority of sound guys have really appreciated how much less work it makes. It’s really quick to plug and unplug tails when they are organized and marked, and they don’t have to worry about repositioning mics or if bands are using different cabinets etc. We bring our own mics so that’s all ready and plugged in side stage before we go on, so all we have to do is carry on drums, position our rack and run those few lines ourselves.
      it’s very important for us to make sure we are all really quick with the load on and off, and it can definitely be a lot to learn but once your band is all on the same page and everybody knows their role in setup it goes incredibly smoothly.

    Unreal, thanks for sharing. My only question is, do you ever have Logic CPU freak outs from how hefty the Neural DSP plug-ins can be? I’m running the same setup (focusrite, logic, neural DSP, on an M1 MacBook Pro) for recording and occasionally my computer has minor panic attacks, but it’s never mattered since it’s for studio use, not live use. But this has caused me to be nervous to turn my “studio” setup into a live setup.

    • @ENOXband
      @ENOXband  Před 2 lety +1

      Fingers crossed, but so far no CPU issues! We are in a 2019 MacBook Pro, just before the m1 came out so i was a little worried but it’s been perfect, not a single dropout in practice or live so far. I have seen people talking about having issues with logic on an m1 though, so maybe we got lucky having to buy early.

      We’re working on the guitar video right now! It’s long overdue lol, but we are gonna get it out as soon as we can.
      So we do have a 5th wireless pack, but when we bought the system there were tons of supply shortages so our drummer had to get a different unit and it didn’t attach to the rest of ours, so we ended up putting it on the rear rack at the very bottom just in top of our rack drawer. We actually just redid the whole rack and moved some stuff around, so we’ll be making a new video on that soon too.
      As far as the outputs, there are 8 xlr outputs on the x32 as well so we are using all of those and then we use 2 aux outputs for those final 2 lines.

    • @ENOXband
      @ENOXband  Před rokem +1

      I was just telling Michael we need to make that! We’ve been super busy with the new music/videos/release stuff but we want to get it done before we leave for tour. and lol we feeeel you on the money for toys. We got ours on credit and just finished paying stuff off, it was a big investment overall but it’s been essential to our touring over the last year. -Roy
      Tech reply from Michael: you could definitely use an x18 but you’ll be limited on your inputs. We use an x32 bc it does everything and we need the mixing capabilities as well as the lots of inputs and outputs. We have a ton of outputs bc we run everybody on an individual stereo mix for ears, so that’s 10 outputs right there. The focusrite is bc we need even more outputs, we run guitars with cab sims to our ears/front of house but also have additional no cab sim lines to send to our power amps when we do use cabs live as well.

      Looking from a perspective of a band who's just starting to rise ranks - You guys carry all your stuff with you. I'm just hearing you say how you set your own mics for drums every single time, probably have to change all mics which messes up cables on the stage and the FOH engineers setup for other bands playing... any advice how to approach that?
      E.g. we're the 2nd of 4 bands that night. We're the only ones that have to do this activity mid-bands. Any tips how to do that?

    Is there any reason why you aren't connecting the computer directly to the X32? Why do you need the Focusrite?

    • @ENOXband
      @ENOXband  Před rokem

      The main reason is that we just ran out of outputs on our x32. We’re gonna be making the neural dsp plug-in live video soon and that might help explain more of why we had to make certain decisions

      @ENOXband  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Well, it’s cheap lol. We have only had to replace it once, so for the money we have definitely gotten more than enough mileage out of it! Can you name the exact model for the 19 inch rack? How much height units does it have?

    • @ENOXband
      @ENOXband  Před rokem

      It is an OSP rack case, and we have the shock mounted version. The racks are 28 inches in total interior height and the rack without the lids is 12 inches deep. The lids are 3.5 inches each, with about 3 inches of clearance so you can still stick 14 inch units like axe fx's in it comfortably.
      If you're building a rig for your band though I wouldn't worry about a brand of case so much as just figuring out exactly what amount of space you need for your build. Things that I think matter aside from the measurements are shock mounting to protect your expensive stuff, and also really good wheels and handles.
      Once you've mapped out exactly what you want to store inside your rack I'd recommend checking local fb marketplaces/craigslist type websites and asking around with your music friends. That's how we found this one and it was a major help in overcoming the costs of the rig.

    • @ENOXband
      @ENOXband  Před rokem +1

      He’s also got a set of wireless in ears, we just have his transmitter in the back of the rack bc we ran out of space. We’ve considered using a hard line for him but it’s just so much easier to set things up on stage without having to make sure the rack is next to drums
