lmao, why would you be more hyped for Elden Ring, this game is next level, Elden Ring biggest innovation is.... the same moveset from DS3 and a jumping button and where you can't even swim lol

Man I had faith Guerilla would knock this one outta the park. The first game absolutely blew my mind when I played it. Super happy that they took the first game's formula and just improved upon it instead of just half-assing with a copy/paste.

Great review Cowboy. I had also had the pleasure of playing a prerelease copy and my verdict came pretty close to yours. What I pointed out as a problem was that sometimes you would just feel overwhelmed with the sheer amount of mechanics that were projected on the ps5 controller (this combo is this and this button, this is this and this, oh, how do I open the grapple again, etc.). But I do believe it is to this time one of the best games on the playstation console so far.
The various armor sets look like a huge improvement, and I'm glad the Devs took the time to make them look so cool.
And the variety in everything like environments & enemies is also greatly appreciated. Horizon Zero Dawn was a fantastic game, and this sequel looks like an improvement in every way. This will very likely be a Day-1 Buy.
best of the maaaany reviews i've seen, feels very honest and calm and the absense of annoying cuts in gameplay makes it much easier to get a feel of how the game actually plays like!
Great review Cowboy. I’m happy to see that this is a true sequel in every sense of the word. I was kinda like you where I wasn’t too excited for the game, but was looking forward to playing it. Now I’m hyped since I know a 10/10 from you does not come lightly. I’ll watch your play through once I’m a bit ahead of my own play through of course but overall I am loving this month of games so far.
I am torn on whether I love this month or hate it. Two months ago I cried that there's nothing to play. Now I'm stressed if I can manage to finish DL2 before Forbidden West, not to mention the premiere of Elden Ring coming out one week after. Ah, the wonderful problems of the first world.
@@Annawa1987 Yes I’m in the same boat. I already see myself playing both Elden Ring and Forbidden West concurrently because I don’t want to rush Forbidden West before Elden Ring comes out. It would do both games a disservice trying to rush them.

I absolutely loved the Zero Dawn. Got it at launch, went for platinum, and then I just stuck around for a few more hours to enjoy the world without an objective. Just taking in the view.
Happy to hear the sequel is at least as good as the original.
I love the relatively unique combat in this game. While I love combat with hand-based weapons in games like Nioh and Sekiro, it's nice having a game with strong bow combat, and with other weapons like the trip wires, spike throwers, guns from machines, and combos with the spear.
I wish we got one more Killzone, but Guerrilla never fails to impress. In a time where games that are unfinished get released like the plague, Guerrilla can be trusted and I appreciate that!

It's bc he's not a bitch when it comes to ppl entering his domain. He'll tell you to straight F off if you're being a dumbass. This is the reason I've loved his content since 2105. Sure, he's not tim the tatman, Dr disrespect, rad brad, etc.. but I'll click on FCB quicker than any of those other guys bc it's so natural and unfiltered.

One of the things I like most about the last one was the want to just run around on foot instead of riding around because of all the stuff you run into. Looks like that feeling has transferred to this one and improved upon.

Having fun with the game so far. I had the same jumping issues you did. Mostly for the same reasons. I found that if I slowed down, and paid attention to the screen prompts that things went much more smoothly.
I'm really curious on how the difficulty settings play out? Doesn't the hardest difficulty feel unfair, or is it just get GUD

For example there's one side quest and it's not shown as a reward but going all the way through it gets you a legendary Spike thrower

huh an actual review thats semi structured and fairly well done. The Last review I remember seeing was the Tales of Arise one and holy shit was that actually painful to listen to around the start due to some massive audio overlap.

It’s such a shame this was released so close to elden ring. The game didn’t get as much love as it deserves. After 200+ hours of elden ring I’ve come back to hfw to finish it and have really gotten in that groove and I’m loving it.

No chance I can finish this before Elden Ring, even if, it would be rush and not the best experience. Will leave it untouched until I'm done with Elden Ring. Cowboy can I ask bout the haptics and adaptive triggers, I was curious how it would be because the bow shooting is a perfect opportunity to take full advantage of the adaptive triggers. In your opinion how did you think the haptics and trigger effects were.
I don`t really like it. I end up turning it off or if possible turn the effect to a lower level. Otherwise, if you have to press too hard your aiming gets weird. Im not speaking of the game here, but the function in general.
I was on the fence, since I liked the first game but never finished it. Between you and Skillup, my two favorite reviewers…I’m sold.

Great review, Cowboy! I appreciated the detailed explanations of mechanics and their comparison to the first game (which I loved). Some feedback for future reviews: I don't think you mentioned performance other than playing on performance mode. I'm assuming that it played fine since you didn't mention an issue, but for franchises where the first game launched at 30fps and was patched to 60fps years later, it's worth mentioning that this sequel is 60fps day one.
TBH I'm not even sure how to measure the FPS on a console title so I figured I'd just let the footage speak for itself.
@@FightinCowboy fair, and I wouldn’t know either. I think a good substitute would be just mentioning if performance mode in a title is supposed to mean 60fps. Maybe that’s what that mode means by default on all ps5 titles? Ignore it so.

Looks like they really worked on the World scale. My only complaint of the first game was that mountains etc were too small and seemed too close. This World scale looks YUGE
First game was great but somehow they managed to improve everything and made a masterpiece. Kudos to the developers well done.
Super excited for this. The best part of the story of the first game was finding out everything from the past so I'm excited to hear this ones story is much better. Also melee looks alot more enjoyable. Only downside is idk how deep I'll really be able to get into this at the moment with elden ring launching next week

Damn, I cannot express how much more excited I am now, and I was already hyped as fuck. I just played through Zero Dawn for the first time a few weeks ago and it blew me away. I'm glad I've only had to wait a few weeks for a sequel lol.

There are a couple things that I liked better in the first game, like being able to craft in my inventory, whereas now I have to use a workbench, but most everything else feels like an upgrade. Haven't experienced any glitches either, aside from a few small visual bugs(on PS5)

I agree with you about the Cauldrons in the first game. I didn't enjoy them. They were hard and overrides just werent that much of a worthwhile tactic in the first game given how difficult they were to pull off. They were good when they worked, but weren't very worthwhile IMO
great review, i did enjoy the HZD, though since i do not have the PS I would have to wait for the port several years down the line, waiting for ER for now.
