Josh Hawley would never ask the CEO of a gun company if they had compensated the family’s of the children harmed by their products. Let alone to hold them to the fire over their answer. It’s sickening to hear this from this reptile.
Just like the TikTok politician, these men are clueless and don't even know how home networking works in the first place. The retirement age for policy making should be 50 now because anyone that doesn't understand the tech should not be forming laws on it.
@@Bound4Earth It's not an age thing, there are a ton of brilliant people in tech that are well over 50, including loads of teachers and professors. Most politicians, especially in the House, are just not really interested in making good policy.
Listen, I hate these politicians, buuuut I also hate Zuckerberg
Exactly
are you defending zuck and his purposely programmed to be addictive pointless "product" that's done nothing good for society? just cuz so and so doesn't also fight xyz doesn't mean him fighting zyx is not a good thing. If anything, lobby whatever politicians you want to go after gun companies. Fuck facebook, fuck all social media, fuck these chinese companies, and fuck that instead of a "good" product, they concentrate on creating an addictive one.
I wish they’d keep this energy with every other real problem in America
My farts are better than Hasan’s farts 💨
they wont.. they just want to virtue signal to "protect the children" yet they have weirdos who target children in both political parties.
Gun manufacturers would never be made to answer for school shooting deaths
Some Congresspeople seem to want to do hearing just to play it up to the camera. They speak as if they are recording a political ad. They shout slogans, "grill" who testify with questions about made up issues. (Just look at Tom Cotton's McCartneyism performance.)
It's all a pony show. There are always only a couple people who ask legitimate questions, calling them out for very real corruption...
@@p-__....
"Who did you fire" is such a rich question coming from a US Congressman
If I hear "communist party" coming from another salt & peppered politician, i'll lose my mind.
Normally I like watching mark Zuckerberg get cooked, but the dude grilling him is somehow making me feel bad for a lizard
Yeah... He didn't let him have a word in lol. Kinda felt bad but not really lol
It doesn't make me feel bad for him, it helps me understand America better. Just like the guy asking questions about home networking, everytime he asked who did you fire wanting actual names, he thinks that changes something or absolves FaceBook. These people are so clueless on tech and what needs to change, no wonder why America is so fucked.
the man grilling him was just sooo annoying but at least hes doing something lmao
You aren't a fan of fried alligator?
Ight it wast just me 😂😂😂
"Are you chinese?"
"No, senator, i'm Singaporean."
"I'll ask again, are you chinese?"
"No, senator."
"Perhaps I was not clear, are you chinese?"
"No i am not, senator."
"Alright, one more time, are you a member of the nation of china?"
"No, senator."
"Are you sure you're not chinese?"
"Yes, senator."
"what part of china is Singapore in?"
"Its... Its not, senator..."
"But are you chinese though?"
"no senator."
"What was it like to be at Tiananmen Square?"
"I wasn't their, senator."
"But you're chinese, aren't you? How many people did you personally kill at Tiananmen?"
"I... Please stop, senator..." Mr. Chew is visibly in tears at this point, from laughter or sadness, it is hard to tell.
"What does Xi Jingping's grundle taste like? I know every loyal member of the Communist CHina party knows what their supreme leaders taint must taste like can you please tell me."
"Can we go back to bullying Mark Zuckerberg please?"
"I would love to do that Mr. Chew, as soon as you use your innate chinese Confucian mind powers to show me what your supreme leaders grundle tastes and smells like."
Cotton's line of questioning would ring a lot more alarm bells if Chew was Taiwanese... "What part of China is ... in? Wait a minute..." Republicans being racist is one thing... Republicans helping CCP is another.
"use your innate chinese Confucian mind powers to show me what your supreme leaders grundle tastes and smells like." lmao you got me😭
The amount of grandstanding that committee was doing is hilarious
My farts are better than Hasan’s farts 💨
It's embarrassing how many things they don't care about.
and no doubt putting clips of these moments up on these social media sites
Just goes to show how little Americans care about actual policy and only care about entertainment and spectacle value when it comes to politics
Yeah that Hawley guy sounds like a braindead child, asking for names of people he fired. As if that overturns any wrongs done. He is just proof why American politics is so messed up. Not as bad as the politician asking how home wnetworking works because he was confused by technology, but not any better. Both should lose their positions.
If you are not informed nothing can change because you don't even understand what the hearing is even about. Sure he understands that change needs to happen but if you don't understand how tech works, you can't change anything that matters. Just like the TikTok hearing, this changes nothing and the people continue to suffer and lose rights to corporations because of BS posturing in hearings like this.
Zuck was struggling to contain his true lizard form

This town hall was the equivalent to a usesless work email. Everyone knows the answer, but instead of doing something about it, they’re just gonna talk about if it’s an issue or not. Wasting everyone’s fckin time.
Congressionally hearings are done to solely for optics. Its a soapbox with a camera which Congresspeople use for future political ads. You can tell when a politician is playing it up for the camera. They just shout slogans and buzzwords.
Has there even been any results from the last multiple of these social media hearings ? I don’t understand why they’re doing this again other than PR
@@rainydaze1313 Because of the moral panic about online sex work and the real estate market potentially being about to crash because people don't want to return to the office and patreon and social media giving people too many options to not have a job where they work for some company in an office. Also, we're due for a "step to the right" after the last few years during covid potentially moving people left.
tom cotton bringing up tiananmen square like that had me rolling. his energy about this was insane.
also its so funny when westoids say “what happened in tinyman square!!!!!” like… a lot of things? its a place in china that has a lot of historical significance. maybe i’m being pedantic but it’s funny that they have such a narrow view of China that all they know about Tiananmen square it is their idea of what happened over 30 years ago
it's likely one of the only things he knows about China
bro got mad that TikTak has your IP address and your birthday. like bro every single website and app you use has your ip adress
Technologically illiterate. But who cares? 🤷♂️ That's not the point. Winning politically by being factually correct has basically died a very very long time ago.
theyre just mad its not america stealing your information
Josh Holly is the grandmaster of obnoxious grandstanding
*Grand Wizard
And don't forget the dislikable virtue signaling. He's performing for his future political ads.
yeah, I don't like Zuckerberg but Hawley managed to make me feel bad for Mark, that takes a lot skills from Hawley
That's literally the only thing conservatives/Republicans can do. Like Democrats are performative but it's nothing compared to them.
A 1000 normal questions that could be asked, and this guy goes like "ArE yOu cHiNeSE?!" a 1000 times

Social media really seems to be something that requires massive regulation or direct government oversight. The black box algorithms that these platforms use are unacceptable on principle. We as a public have a right to know how our feeds are sorted if they are not sorted purely chronologically.
this!
And if they are sorted chronologically, they should still have to prove it, and shouldn’t have a reason to black box their algorithm.
Oh, Tom Cotton playing the oldies of the red scare. He's bringing back that classics of McCartneyism.
he literally said the line “are you or have you ever been a member of the (chinese) communist party” lol
Bring back? It never went anywhere. Red scare and McCarthyism are part of western culture at this point.
Just wanted to add from my xp; to anyone who's ever been a victim of cyber hate / violence because of their appearance, gender, orientation, race : DO NOT ever let a hateful notion 'there's something wrong with me' sink in. Trust me, it's a recipe for self hatred and compulsive anxieties later on. When we suffer and we need a break, it's only natural to think: maybe if I was as everybody else I would be accepted. No, haters will always find something else to prey upon. I've always had androgynous look, which was a real fuel for bullies when I was growing up. I embraced it, used it to my advantage in my acting / modeling career, I was almost the face of Leon in these new Resident Evil games :)

@@itchyPoncho . Bro, you don't know him. Wtf are you assuming? And even if you think he looks normal now, it still has nothing to do with his story.
Stop virtue signaling. Everyone gets bullied at some point. Get over it
@@coltanbabott-olson4522I mean this just ain’t true lmfao, stop vice signaling and grow up
I'm sure that apology that had to be goaded out of him really meant a lot to those families. Almost as much as much as some thoughts and prayers from congress would. Tiktok is a wonderful thing, especially conservative boomer tiktok.
All the dumb fucks that watched tik Tok 6 hours with out realizing it is wild
Normally I'd get a kick of seeing these CEO's squirm, but I agree that the "questioning" is in such bad faith you get the feeling you are just watching the kettle calling the pot black. It's so transparent that they are just putting on a show for their constituents when they wo't let them respond and their questions are for the most part absurd.
Drink every time he says "Chinese Communist Party"
I'm already at 7 shots lol
Of course they would never ask a gun company to give money to the victims
But they are okay with doing this for social media
I agree this needs to be talked about but the only reason they are doing this is to make sure children don’t know what’s going on in the world as well being easier to control
If they care why don’t they also do this for pharma companies, gun companies, or get meals for kids or how about the education system? No?
i disagree-- there is no substantial difference in cyberbullying from regular harassment. the numbers dont even show it lmao-- a minor increase in suicide rates cant be attributed to any one thing, for example.
there is no nuance here. this is censorship through and through
DuPont chemical definitely needs this type of questioning in their lane..
"I saw nudity online... give me money." Maybe if the republican party didn't demonize sex education, it wouldn't be as big an issue.
Tom Cotton LITERALLY asked McCarthyite questions.
"why are there less hashtags about a 1989 photo and more for a famous pop artist? Ask me why? Why are you censoring a protest that probably happened before a big chuck of users were born? Why?" - a very smart ted cruz
Josh Hawley, the guy who ran away faster than anyone on J6, is bullying Zuck. Is the world ending soon?
It's about what 50 year old white guys about. Guns? nah. Big pharma? nah. Tiktok making people sad? NOW THAT'S IMPORTANT!
Well those people who are deeply affected online (can) get guns, and they do drugs so its all tied in
You must not know the statistics on depression, anxiety, and suicide, not to mention the division in america social media platforms are solely responsible for creating. People are going after guns and big pharma also, though not enough but every politician doesn't need to be doing it all and they don't all need to be going after one single issue. So long as they're doing something that helps cuz social media is straight up evil.
All three of those things are important.
Social media is destroying young minds. It is important. But yes, other issues should be addressed too.
@@pfftwhut7638lmao yea dude they are really going after pharma and guns lmao we were lucky to get one drug pay capped and it's only capped for certain people and nobody was interviewed like this. Libs never do it because they have no interest in actually making policy and conservatives only do it so they can get soundbites for their next campaign ad while they actually do nothing. Nothing will come out of this shit it's just to make it look like they are doing something and nothing will be regulated besides maybe TikTok getting sold off
Good to see another hearing starring the people in charge where they once again demonstrate why they shouldn’t be in charge.
Of course. My brain is rotted from a life of passive traditional media. Social media is like mainlining.
As an American living in Singapore, this is all incredibly embarrassing...
the attention marketplace, its combined force of the world's best engineers refining the addictiveness of social media, and the hundreds of millions of dollars in research behind it - yeah, the average teenager does not stand a chance, and neither do the parents.
These gov. officials are so out of touch. I wish the people who run our country would let the people they ask questions talk. What a real precedent it sets to shout over your own issues.
Smartphones and social media should be treated as a controlled substance. Kids under 16 should unironically not be allowed to have smartphones. You can have a flip phone if you want.
My farts are better than Hasan’s farts 💨
See I get where you're coming from but you're also asking for children go become even more vulnerable than they are now with not much to go against something that could expose others through surveillance. Especially in an age where we are fully repealing Child labor laws.
The death of children media also led to this too, but you can't really make money from kids without ads.
@@CreationsFlarebro what are you talking about nothing of what you said has anything to do with preventing children from having a smartphone
@@MechanicalRabbits not really, queer kids with deeply homophobic parents, children who suffer abuse do often find recourses or a safespace to help them through internet access that isn’t regulated by their parents. Pretty sure that’s what they’re talking about.
@MechanicalRabbits I mean, would you rather a Pager or something else? Flip phones these days still do have Social Media in them. It's an issue for sure but I don't think banning Social Media and doing nothing about the environment and education in America will suddenly save the kids.
1:45 are politicians going to compensate us for their decisions?
If only they questioned those who sell guns to teens…regardless, don’t give phones to kids knowing how damaging it is to them
People say conservative comedy isn't funny, but Ted Cruz saying "Why the difference between Taylor Swift and Tienanmen Square?" made me laugh harder than I have in a while, holy shit lmao
Its almost as if privatization hurts people in more than one way.
Majority of social media requires someone to be 18 or older. I blame the parents for not supervising their kids.
That's a really liberal way of thinking. Yelling at mom and dad with sooo very little power versus the vampiric, messed up, multi-billion dollar social media system?
I'm mean, you're not wrong on some level but nothing gets fixed if we don't hold these powerful systems responsible.
Hasan has perfected the southern accent omg it's gotten so much better now 😂
This is an extremely important conversation and it’s rare I feel like content creators I watch address any of the societal issues I’m concerned about primarily child safety and welfare. Thanks dog
As soon as mark heard the word compensation he got twisted. Almost saw the lizard skin peel off of his body out of anger at the suggestion
It hurts everyone who uses it. It's cigarettes before the science

While I hate Zukerberg for a lot of reasons I am also aware that 13 year olds shouldnt be on social media at all. Period. The only thing that Zuckerberg did wrong here is that he didnt put the age limit to 18.
Yes, next question.
My farts are better than Hasan’s farts 💨
@@p-__ yo you stole my line, Good job! 😋
This is the dumbest hearing ever. Why bring these people in just to ask rhetorical questions? This isn't a hearing. This is just a beratement. While I think social media companies need to do more, congress needs to act like adults. Sick of these stupid back and forth of yelling at each other. These idiots need to work together instead of just blaming each other repeatedly. Nothing is getting done and nothing will get done. America is finished lol
Man, if only parents would just take 1 percent more action.
people forget that abusive and/or negligent parents exist.
when china implemented their law limiting the amount under 14s can play video games, many people went off about how “it should be parent’s responsibility not the government” but they conveniently forget that not all parents are responsible. governments exist for a reason. if there is public consent to regulate or restrict a certain product i don’t see why not.
as a former child, yes.
Isn't it the parents' responsibility to monitor their children? Why are they expecting the platforms to monitor their kids for them?
Are you a special kind of stupid?
because for most platforms you give an age and its not like facebook /meta doesn't know how old you are with all the personale info and pictures people post on these platforms, so I don't think it crazy to say a young person of any gender shouldn't have nudity or vulgar material being "recommended" by the platform you see ?
not all parents are responsible. besides, it’s more complicated than that.
it’s like saying we shouldn’t make kidnapping illegal because parents should be watching their kids all the time anyway.
It's soooo much more complicated than this and if you were a parent you would know.
You cannot constantly monitor your kid. Plus kids can simply bypass and create other accounts etc.
Giving up watching Cenk for HasanAbi is a choice I continue to not regret 😂
As a person who was groomed in nearly every corner of the internet and has been forced to witness every sort of crime and human could ever commit (if there is anything in your head it is still a yes) and honestly they need to start IP banning kids cause every kid has seen something that sticks with them forever.
yeah people like to seethe about China’s restrictions on the internet for children but like i see it as a good thing, growing up with access to the internet at all times from the age of 8 permanently fucked up my brain and i would do anything to go back and stop myself. it’s just not healthy for children to have unrestricted access to the internet during their most formative years.
the internet was such an insane phenomenon for humanity and before we realised it was absolutely everywhere. we’re only now starting to see the effects it has on society.
the way China does tiktok in their own country is based. science and educational stuff is good for kids. it’s hilarious that Americans are crying because Chinese communists are better at doing capitalism than they are. like Hasan said i’m down if the US wants to put in place restrictions for tiktok in their own country, hopefully they keep that same energy for all social media platforms though. they’re basically conceding that the Chinese had the right idea all along though, lol
@@itsukizy unfortunately as America forcefully took control of the rest of the world China was deliberating on nearly every social issue there could be. Freedom in America means very little restriction even if it would actually make things worse.

I don't even need to watch this (I will). Social media has negatively impacted so many around me, as well as myself. Besides just giving a platform for creeps to be creepy towards minors, it's very hard to constantly see people doing better and not feel shitty.
SEEMING to do better.
just do better in your own life and you will not care about the "others" doing better
I think doing better means being more empathetic too
@@Cloudruler_ nah, while being empathic is important, it does not stop what the user is talking about which is comparison of one’s life to an other. Empathy is AMAZING but to solve your own feelings of not “being” good enough. Simply you just have to focus on you and what you can control and the empathy will come with experience!
I just watched an adult woman cry because her gender reveal wasn't Instagram-worthy, so I agree that it's having a negative impact
Senator has gains from all that performative finger wagging (and then doing nothing)
oh, mark had a humanity patch upgrade it seems, looks significantly less robotic
Yes. The answer is yes.
I find it funny how the items that Hawley gives as examples of private information that China is allegedly getting are like birth dates and IP-addresses (and the nebulous more). This is the kind of information that everyone pretty much gives away on majority of sites.
Hell this isn't even the most sensitive information that, at least I won't really be all that concerned about. If I were, I would just start lying about my date of birth and keep using a VPN.
Hasan commentary is always rationally Gold
7:10 the best strategy is for the public to own the airwaves and bandwidth.
Will Hawley apologize for invoking an insurrection?
12:43 the channeling of Cotton starts here and it is everything!!💯😂😂😂
24:00 biting the hand that feeds you
The way I see it, data privacy talks is so bad for these huge tech companies that's how they make most of their money. You make it harder to advertise to people, you end up wasting tons of dough. Once regulations come down we'll see alot of the industry deflate in a spectacular fashion
Weakest apology.
We are not a serious nation. Politics is equivalent to watching wrestling. It's all theater that's supposed to engage with the low common denomination's emotional side. Whether it haterd or fear. Never producing any actual change that they scream about. Just for a show to build up political points for the individual careerist. They are never actually fighting for something bigger than themselves besides capital and bigotry. These people are soulless husks.
Of course it is. It's extremly addicting.
This is a take from a good friend of mine, but it should be mentioned that the age of social media is probably going to end sooner than people realize. World government are nationalizing and cracking down on their local internet platforms like China has done for years, and the sick old man of America is going to be in the latter half of this race to legislate the internet. The internet is a massively overvalued commodity, good networking tool and shitty economic vehicle. This is the beginning of the end for Web2, but we already abandoned Web2 when the AIs took over.
It is, we have a society of hate…
Dying over here from Hasan's yeehaw accent
They should make every company held to this standard. Hasan bars🔥🔥🔥

Lol if they had that kind of smoke for big oil the world would be a better place
Yeah thats common sense its a gift and a curse
That’s the thing about doots they tend to dot, but that’s just common sense…
I’m not supposed to say this but I’m currently part of a lawsuit against pretty much every social media platform because i was basically traumatized and groomed as a child my whole childhood because of social media. anywho this is a biggggg deal for my case and hopefully it’ll go to trial and some of us will be able to get compensation and people like zuckerberg will be forced to enforce more regulations on these apps for children.
if this is real i hope it works out. tech companies have gotten away with little to no regulation for too long
Social media negatively affect kids??!?!
Damn…that’s crazy…
If social media stopped at just being a way to talk to your friends and share what you're doing *with your friends* then the world would genuinely be 100 times better.

I have to say that Zuckerberg with more hair looks more like a human. In fact, I almot believed that he was a human in this hearing.
Except when he had to talk and then the façade just faded.
Tech needs to be held accountable for what they've done to humanity.
