- Part 1: Valve Cover, and Camshaft removal.
**UPDATE: Took three months, finished around mid August. Engine is running strong on the track.
I decided I would document my journey through this engine rebuild.
I've rebuilt cylinder heads, but never the entire engine. So this is definitely new to me. In no way does anything I say or do supercede the factory service manual. Everything I do is straight from the service manual, and some "lessons learned" I've picked up from other projects. This motor will ultimately be used in a track bike.
Some back story on the engine..
5000 miles before bent valves. My old* bad downshifting habits over-revved the engine at a trackday last August (2014). Bent valves ensued..
Awesome video brother! I've learned alot from watching them. I hope to get to your level soon.
@loamall I underestimated how time consuming editing videos is. But I'm getting on it! Will edit them soon
Nice video man I'm waiting on part 2.also lol what size is the head bolt
haha ill start editing again tomorrow. head bolt was 12 point M10. had to buy 12pt M10 socket.
heard u tighten the cam shaft tensioner to get rid of the ticking noise common on 07 08 zx6rs my friend told me to adjust valves but.. hmmm
Do you absolutely have to remove the engine from the frame to perform all the work you did? I've got red kote in my 07 zx6r's combustion chamber and have to clean it all out.
Where part2?
whats the name of the background music?
Do you use sealant when you put the gasket back on?
+RevVin yup! But only at the half circles. Not the whole thing.
In that spot you can use RTV (the permatex ultra black, or blue)
Where did you get your replacement parts
+Alexandro Guevara I used Partzilla, they are the cheapest (real cheap) but slow shipping. Usually around 2 weeks. If I needed something fast I went to local dealership and had them order, but it costs much more.
