  • This kitchen was extremely filthy!! Thanks so much for hanging out with us for this new extreme / massive kitchen declutter!! WOAH did we declutter. Thankfully the homeowner let us get rid of more than half of the things in the kitchen. We tossed 50% if not more! There were rusty knives and dishes everywhere. It was so bad they no longer ate in the kitchen. We hope this video gives you some motivation to declutter and/or organize your kitchen!
But, there was more than just dirty dishes and counters. Until we cleaned it, it was unsanitary for them to eat in this kitchen, watch the video to find out why. You will be amazed by this extreme cleaning journey. Watch this kitchen go from filthy to beautiful right before your eyes. The best part was that the owner of this home found the motivation to clean the rest of her home, thanks to watching her daughter's room and the kitchen getting cleaned. Sometimes, you just need a little head start to find the motivation to change your life.

I am a professional cleaner and we see it all. Too many people have too much stuff! It makes more work and takes more time to clean. Simplify and declutter. Get rid of stuff that is.not used, worn, read, etc. If it doesn’t have a home, it needs to go. Ideally it would be helpful to go through our house once a year to purge papers, our clothes, toys, bedrooms, bathrooms, family and living rooms, kitchen, linen closet, and garage. So refreshing to see a clean and neat house!

They had limited time and I would've tackled the things that need to dwell first. It helps when you see the job first. I would've brought Sterilite 64 qt. storage bins, a few bottles of white vinegar and dish soap. Piled all those dishes into the containers, taken them outside, vinegar/soap and hose water and let them soak. Sinks, oven, refrigerator doors and sides get Easy-Off and plastic wrap, let them dwell. Then start the counters. Clean and bleach solution, let it air dry. Then tackle the sinks and dishes.

Another tip? Finish off the appliances with isopropyl alcohol (not on stainless tho). It removes the last layer of cleaning residue, and yes you always have a residue because to "repel" dirt, hair, and grime... But it actually attracts and holds. The alcohol allows the foreign dirt to release. I've been professionally cleaning houses since 2015. You all did amazing and used so many great products

You girls did great! I bet this family is truly gateful. I only have one suggestion though, you can buy terry cloth, microfiber, cotton and other rags really cheap. That can be rinsed and washed, instead of going through so many paper towels. That is so inefficient and with our paper product shortage, probably not the best way to go... Also the rags give you more scrubbing power... Some even more absorbency also.
Also the dishes you tossed, could have been saved/cleaned... Not the first two pans, but the others, elbow grease, brillo pad and dawn would have done the trick and they could have been donated to new family just starting out or a family in need that cannot afford to buy dishes... Just a thought...

We usually use clothes but honestly they get so gross when it’s this much. I usually end up tossing them at the end. I could go through several.
The homeowner made the call on the dishes. We honored what she wanted. Some of the dishes and silverware were very rusty. We tried cleaning some of it but it was not coming clean. Not like popping into the dishwasher. I don’t think a thrift store would’ve taken it.

Soapy water vs. paper, a conundrum that disturbed me so much I asked a few ecological non-profits which was better. This was around 2010. Most of them wouldn't commit to an answer. One said they didn't know (respect) and one definitively said paper over cloths. Reasoning that once water is soapy, it's always soapy. Cloths need to be washed. Trees grown by paper companies are renewable, water isn't. There's only so much water. I hadn't thought of it in those terms and now I see why most of them said it was a personal choice. This also impacts my need to rinse everything with water. Just using paper towels to clean up the cleaning product and calling it done doesn't do it for me. Thought food, right?

After deciding what to keep, and washing everything, I would have put some of the dishes in the sink and poured boiling water over them, since the dishwasher is broken. Then I would have continued to do that until all of the dishes had been covered in boiling water. Back in the day (60’s) before we had a dishwasher. We would do that. My mom didn’t feel they were clean until she had used boiling water on them.

Also those caked on pans are totally salvageable, scrape off what you can with a metal scraper and spray on oven cleaner and let it sit. Then if there is still some stuck on after the oven cleaner you can remove scrub daddy's power paste, it removes just about everything.

YES!! "Bar Keepers Friend" I was surprised it hadn't been mentioned yet. It's been my "go to" for many years, and it's so inexpensive.
A disagree a tiny bit on one point; B. Friend is powdered like Comet, but it doesn't scratch and can be used on so many surfaces. Sometimes I'll have a stain on my formica countertop, and just wetting and scrubbing
doesn't get it all out. Then I make a paste, paint it on, and leave it for a couple of hours.
Also it doesn't smell bad - always helps!

You don't actually need to throw away any super badly burnt dishes as they did at 7:15. They can be saved, and it is pretty easy. Use an oven cleaner, put a cling foil on top of the dish so that the oven cleaner does not dry out - and let it sit for an hour or two. And voila! The dish should be very easy to clean now, as the oven cleaner has dissolved all the burnt grease. If needed, use a scraper meant for scraping glass stove tops, and scrape off all the burnt residue. Then the dish will be like new.
